Dear Albin, please fact check what's spoken all around. Do you know Bruno was not a scientist as such. He has no such scientific work to claim to be scientist. He genre was rather a philosophy of science. A kind of theological philosophy so to say which has a scientific backing which he was trying to make out. He was having some strange idea about cross too different from the cross of christ church used to venerate replacing it by Egyptian cross as far I understand. And the teaching of the church is very clear that church's teaching is infallible in cases of faith and morals. Of course church has had some wrong notion of truth custody. But to confuse false narratives with truth is mere negligence of own rational capability. In case of Galileo too there is a narration that he was put to death by church. Please fact check that too. Of course Galileo was under house arrest but It's no as popularly believed. He was allowed to room around whole of Florence city and to conduct his scientific studies. He published his work after 5 years of his house arrest...!!! No one would tell these truths. And please read the mathematical principles of Isaac Newton. You can see in that very scientific work Newton try to pr9ve existence of God. So if properly understood it is a book of theology and Mathematica science...!!! German Catholic priest and astronomer who invented the Pantograph and known for being the co-discoverer of Sunspots - Fr. Christoph Scheiner (25 July 1575 - 18 June 1650) Scheiner was a German Jesuit priest, physicist and astronomer. In 1610, he worked as a successor to Fr. Johannes Lantz S.J. in Ingolstadt, teaching mathematics and Hebrew. He lectured on sun dials, practical geometry, astronomy, optics, and the telescope. Scheiner is considered as the co-discoverer of the Sun spots, together with Galileo Galilei, Thomas Harriot and Johann Fabricius. Scheiner pursued sunspot observations for more than 15 years and devised techniques that greatly improved the accuracy of observed sunspot positions, and designed specialized solar observing instruments. Results of his observations were published in 1630 in his Rosa Ursina. He constructed a number of different kinds of telescopes, and in particular (perhaps at the suggestion of Kepler) he made one with two convex lenses instead of Galileo's scheme which included one concave and the other convex. This improved sightings greatly. The pantograph was also invented by him in 1603 for mechanically copying a figure on an enlarged or reduced scale. Also provided insights into the nature of the eye, he found that the retina is the seat of vision and the optic nerve transmits the images from the retina to the brain.

Catholic bishop & Mathematician who developed the early version of rectangular co-ordinate system - Bishop Nicole Oresme (1320 to July 11, 1382) Oresme was a mathematician and a scientist of remarkable brilliance, he was also the Bishop of Lisieux in France. He wrote influential works on mathematics, physics, philosophy, theology and was considered the greatest economist of the Middle Ages. In mathematics, Oresme discovered the rules for combining exponents, even discussing fractional and irrational exponents. He gave the first proof that the harmonic series (1 + 1/2 + 1/3 + …) diverges. Oresme invented a type of coordinate geometry before Descartes, He developed the use of simple graphs to plot physical quantities, thus anticipating by three centuries some of the ideas of Cartesian analytic geometry. Oresme was the first to prove the “Merton theorem,” which gives the distance traversed by a uniformly accelerating body. Oresme speculated that falling bodies accelerate uniformly, so that the speed of a falling body is proportional to the time it has fallen, which is correct and equivalent to the famous “law of falling bodies,” which Galileo discovered experimentally almost three hundred years later.

French catholic priest and amateur mathematician who proposed an inverse square law for gravitation before Newton - Fr. Ismaël Bullialdus (28 Sept 1605 - 25 Nov 1694) Ismael Boulliau's was born in Loudun, France to his Calvinist parents, Susanna Motet and Ismael Bullialdus. At the age of 21, Bullialdus converted to Roman Catholicism and was ordained at age 26. Bullialdus was an active member of the Republic of Letters, the long-distance intellectual correspondence network that had emerged as an international community of self-proclaimed scholars and literary figures. Bullialdus was a prolific correspondent, with around 5,000 letters that have survived to this day. Bullialdus was a friend of Gassendi, Huygens, Mersenne, and Pascal, and an active supporter of Galileo and Copernicus. His work ‘Astronomia philolaica’ represents the most significant treatise between Kepler and Newton and it was praised by Newton in his Principia, In particular for the inverse square hypothesis and its accurate tables, also this work strongly supported Kepler's hypothesis that the planets travel in elliptical orbits around the Sun. Bullialdus was one of the earliest members of the Royal Society, London, having been elected on April 4, 1667, seven years after its founding. The Moon's Bullialdus crater is named in his honor.

Fr. Jean Picard, (July 21, 1620 - July 12, 1682, Paris), French astronomer and a Catholic Priest who first accurately measured the length of a degree of a meridian (longitude line) and from that computed the size of the #Earth. Picard was the first person to measure the size of the Earth to a reasonable degree of accuracy in an arc measurement survey conducted in 1669-70, for which he is honored with a pyramid at Juvisy-sur-Orge. Guided by Maurolycus's methodology and Snellius's mathematics for doing so, Picard achieved this by measuring one degree of latitude along the Paris Meridian using triangulation along thirteen triangles stretching from Paris to the clocktower of Sourdon, near Amiens. His measurements produced a result of 110.46 km for one degree of latitude, which gives a corresponding terrestrial radius of 6328.9 km. Isaac Newton was to use this value in his theory of universal gravitation.

No shit that majority of the scientists in the past were religious when religion itself is so heavily conditioned into every fabric of society. Every discovery or invention was only pushed forward with having god as the prerequisite already, which makes sense obviously because they weren't philosophers who mastered in epistemology who'd question their existence itself but rather just master their own field. Which is why current scientists tend to be more atheistic because they don't have a preconditioned belief for their study, they like to separate delusions and fantasy from reality and truth.

If we study the evolution of Vedas. It is quite clear that the ideas which are in the beginning portion are regressive (ie sacrifice) as compared to the portion which was developed later (such as Upanishads which talk about our inner self). This means that the people of Vedic age were much more open minded about their beliefs as compared to us. When they realised that rituals and sacrifice is bad they acknowledged it and developed newer portion of Vedas. On the other hand, today people have become so closed minded they are not ready to debate. They get very offended whenever someone criticize any portion of their books. Had it not been for open mindedness, the Upanishads would have never been created. Some of the Upanishads also criticize caste system. It was because of debate culture that so many philosophies were developed in India. Today we are not ready to debate. Those who say that Pranav is anti-hindu take pride in the old regressive portion of Vedas when it is quite clear that our ancestors abandoned it for the newer theory of Upanishads.

Medieval English Philosopher and Franciscan Friar known as the Forerunner of the Scientific Method - Fr. Roger Bacon (1214 - June 1292, Oxford, England). Roger Bacon was a thirteenth-century English philosopher, Franciscan friar, and empiricist who emphasized the study of natural phenomena through observation, hypothesis, experimentation, and independent verification. Bacon studied mathematics, astronomy, optics, and languages; he was the first European to describe in detail the process of making gunpowder, and he even hypothesized the use of flying machines and motorized ships. He is often named as a major forerunner of modern science, 300 years before it came into existence. Bacon's major work, the Opus Majus, was sent to Pope Clement IV in Rome in 1267 upon the pope's request. His most important mathematical contribution is the application of geometry to optics. In 1237 or at some point in the following decade, he accepted an invitation to teach at the University of Paris and lectured on Latin grammar, Aristotelian logic, arithmetic, geometry, and the mathematical aspects of astronomy and music. His faculty colleagues included Albertus Magnus, and the future Pope John XXI. #churchandscience

In 1891 Pope Leo XIII formally re-founded the Specola Vaticana (Vatican Observatory) and located it on a hillside behind the dome of St. Peter's Basilica. Guido Grandi was an Italian born monk, priest, philosopher, theologian, mathematician, and engineer. In 1694, Grandi was assigned as professor at the Camaldolese Monastery of St. Mary of the Angels in Florence. It was during this period he took an interest in mathematics. By 1707, however, Dom Grandi had developed such a reputation in the field of mathematics that he was named court mathematician to the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo III de Medici. In that post, he also worked as an engineer, being appointed Superintendent of Water for the Duchy, and in that capacity he was involved in the drainage of the Chiana Valley. In 1709 he visited England where he clearly impressed his colleagues there, as he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. The University of Pisa named him Professor of Mathematics in 1714. In mathematics Grandi is best known for his work Flores geometrici (1728), studying the rose curve, a curve which has the shape of a petalled flower. He is also known for the infinite series 1 − 1 + 1 − 1 + .., called Grandi's series. It is a divergent series, meaning that it lacks a sum in the usual sense. On the other hand, its Cesàro sum is 1/2. He also Introduced Leibniz's work with Calculus to Italy.

The name comes from the Catholic priest and anatomist Fr. Gabriele Falloppio, for whom other anatomical structures are also named. Gabriele Falloppio (1523 - October 9, 1562) was an Italian Catholic priest and anatomist often known by his Latin name Fallopius. He was one of the most important anatomists and physicians of the sixteenth century, giving his name to the Fallopian tube. Falloppio's own work dealt mainly with the anatomy of the head. He added much to what was known before about the internal ear and described in detail the tympanum and its relations to the osseous ring in which it is situated. He also described minutely the circular and oval windows (fenestræ) and their communication with the vestibule and cochlea. He was the first to point out the connection between the mastoid cells and the middle ear. His description of the lacrimal ducts in the eye was a marked advance on those of his predecessors and he also gave a detailed account of the ethmoid bone and its cells in the nose. His contributions to the anatomy of the bones and muscles were very valuable. It was in myology particularly that he corrected Vesalius. He studied the reproductive organs in both sexes, and described the Fallopian tube, which leads from the ovary to the uterus and bears his name to this day. The aquaeductus Fallopii, the canal through which the facial nerve passes after leaving the auditory nerve, is also named after him. Falloppio’s contributions to neuroanatomy, however, are still of interest today due to attempts to better understand the structures he first found. He was interested in the sensory systems in the face. He centered his research on understanding the path of the nerves of the face and structures that lie in their tracks. Here, he left his name to two parts of the human face, only emphasizing his enormous influence on the study of the head. The facial canal was first described by Falloppio, who studied its path, structure, and contents. He also described the Fallopian hiatus, an opening in the anterosuperior part of the petrosal bone. His contributions to practical medicine were also important. He was the first to use an aural speculum for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the ear, and his writings on surgical subjects are still of interest.
