One phrase, that you hear a lot when talking to climate change sceptics, is that the average temperature is calculated mostly using data from stations near cities (Data is collected there because of weather forecasts etc), and that cities are getting warmer, because they are growing in population. Can you please debunk that (or link me to an article I could show them)? Thank you very much for your work -Jonathan

What kind of an effect does all the water/steam we emit have? Seems to me much more impactful than CO2 alone, my *guess* is that we are seeing such an effect due to both, but more so water. How To Reduce Pollution 1. Many Production Companies Has To Be Stopped We manufacture so many products and it is creating pollution and pollution has increased to such an extent that it has become a threat to the world. So if we minimise our products, pollution would be less. We produce so many things which we do not need as a necessity, like cold drinks, leather products, potato wafers, chips, fruit juices, chocolates, biscuits, pickles, ice creams, etc. Cold drinks, fruit juices, chocolates, biscuits, pickles, ice creams, etc. should be cooked at home only. Instead of cold drinks people should drink natural drinks such as lime water, coconut water or just any fruit, not any fruit juice, just the whole fruit which can be served when a customer comes in a shop, hotel or a person selling this drinks on a street and serve it to him. If we stopped producing this things which are not required as a necessity for humans, so much pollution could be reduced. If we colour the clothes pollution occurs. So if we don't colour our clothes, the pollution resulting from colouring the clothes can be stopped. Let everything remain in white natural colour. 2. We Should Cook Foods In Its Natural Form We can cook rice and wheat in our homes and eat it. Rice and Wheat is produced in farms. Then it is packed and transported to big warehouses, then wholesalers buy from them and supply to retail shops. But if a manufacturing company makes bread from rice and wheat, then to make bread a manufacturing company has to be set up, machines and working staffs are needed. When a company is built many other things are also needed. Then at last a plastic pack is required to pack the breads. So if we start cooking eatable things in its natural form then we do not need many companies like bread manufacturing company, tomato ketchup, fruit jam, pizza, burger, etc., the things required for the company and the plastic pack, paper box pack and glass bottles. If done like this, so many companies will not be required and hence less pollution for the world. Humans have to do this before it is too late. If this is done, then many jobs would be lost. But human jobs or planet earth, which should we save, planet earth is more important. Humans have to take this step certainly instead of going on polluting the earth, making wildlife extinct and also mass extinctions of humans after 100 or 200 years. Prior to the industrial revolution or before that humans worked everything handmade. So if after shutting down many manufacturing companies which are not required as a necessity for humans, if we started doing many things handmade only then many people would not lose jobs. Many peoples should do farming and they should be given loans if they do not have enough money to start farming on their own. Is their any another solution, that humans won't lose jobs and also planet earth will be saved.

That thing about planting tropical fruit in places where it cannot currently survive misses a flipside of that same effect: The plants that currently thrive where you currently live may no longer be able to live there. Take the huge-ass pine forests of Canada, for example. The southern limit of their range is largely defined by the cold tolerance of the pine beetle, which cannot survive a cold winter but absolutely thrives in pine forests that no longer get cold enough to kill them off. This kills off the forest. And then there's a load of dead wood standing around. In increasingly dry summers.

I worked on a climate science program for a few years and worked with the land station data from about 14 small countries in the Pacific. I went in thinking there might be some group-think, but left very impressed with the whole field and the practitioners. The main influence on air surface temps in the Pacific is sea surface temperatures, so the warming signal is quite obvious and directly linked to large-scale global heat transfer. Of more concern than the warming is the storms: Slightly less often but more likely to be destructive, and less predictable in their paths due to circulation changes. Migrations into cooler zones isn't so great either. Frost stops nematodes that can destroy crops, so be prepared for a lot more disruption in farming as frost lines and other subtle barriers shift. Ocean pH is a huge worry as it could initiate the collapse of some pretty huge ecosystems. Science has to be conservative, and rightly so, but I still came away with the impression that the horror of what is coming if we do not prepare is vastly underappreciated. Please keep it up, you are doing vital work.

Hi sir, I would like to know how does the energy spent on making a solar panel (including everything from refining the silicon to making the panel) compare to it's output throughout it's life. And which of monocrystalline and polycrystalline does better in this aspect. Thank you in advance.

0:22 That whole lessening individual carbon footprint was from a 2005 BP ad campaign which diverted attention away from the fossil fuel corporations activity, as those corporations were responsible for the majority of emissions, towards individual responsibility ... and that's had a disastrous impact on environmentalism ever since.

I think this highlights one of the biggest problems with climate change denial: Many people can't see any further into the future than the end of their nose. When you tell them that sea level increase is measured in millimeters, they can't fathom (pun somewhat intended) how it would matter to them. Bummer for their great grandkids, but no worries, great grandpa won't be there to see it. Conversely, you see the argument, "the earth's climate is constantly changing, so everything just adapts" (interesting concept since many of these same people deny evolution). They can't conceive of the time that is involved with those changes. Even the "quick" events took millennia, not decades. If you are drowning, you can't really count on developing gills to save you. My hats off to you for keeping your cool and trudging through these types of comments. Your work is needed if our grandkids are going to have a future not filled with strife and "adaption".

The permafrost didn't melt then, why should it now?" No one is talking about a little bit of sunny weather: Humans have warmed the WHOLE planet on by 2 degrees F on average, and that means we are warming it 10-20 times faster than it usually warms when coming out of an ice age. Most species can't adapt to such rapid change and the hotter and dryer conditions will be harmful/lethal to millions of species (and humans) unless we rapidly de-carbonize the economy.
@HealingLifeKwikly2 жыл бұрын
@@pauljackson2409 "The 'dust bowl' which affected the American mid-west in the 1930s, was a period of unusual heat and drought, which came about in very a short time . This was way before carbon dioxide levels rose significantly, and illustrates that climate can change over periods of a few years, without human intervention." There are three problems with that example. First, the whole planet didn't warm suddenly, but that is what humans have done to the planet. The US is just a puny 1.84% of the surface of the Earth, and many other places, including Canada next door, were much cooler than the long-term average in the 1930s. Globally, the 1930s were significantly cooler than it is now. Second, despite producing some epic heat waves for parts of the year in parts of the country, the 1930s weren't even all that hot in the US: Four years in the 1930s were cooler than average, and overall, the 1930s in the US were cooler than the 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s (and possibly cooler than the 1990s). Third, if you know anything about the dust bowl, you know that westward expansion and dumb farming methods played a big role in exacerbating the crisis. Lots of previous grassland was dug up and laid bare in ways that intensify summer heat and promote erosion by wind and rain. In short, the Dust Bowl and the degree of heat during those heat waves was also partly man-made (the air about bare soil in the summer can be 10-15 degrees hotter on a summer day than the air above land covered with grasses or cover crops.)

Thanks for remembering that before China industrialised and made a sharp turn into renewables, driving costs down for solar due to their sheer manufacturing scale and domestic demand, solar power was expensive and wouldn’t outcompete fossil energy for a long time even with subsidies. I lived through that tipping point, with a career that has a good ringside seat for this very topic ie in the energy industry, and this wasn’t so long ago. It’s astonishing how soon people - especially the western media - conveniently forget this. Note that I don’t even like China, but facts are facts.

@ytbabbler4 жыл бұрын
Lindzen claimed that the sensivity for co² was to low to create a disastrous warming, that was more than 10 years ago but now we can see the warming but since he never defined what he mean with disastrous, he can claim he is right even if billions of people die due to global warming. Since he is only qualified to talk about atmospheric dynamics, he maybe don't know more than you about disasters, biology and stuff and can't tell when we have a disaster. He focus about politics and critics of other scientists, often misrepresent what they say before he debunk them. If he must make up quotes from others to have a point, he has no point. He also claim that all scientists has a political agenda, like making money for claiming a climate problem. Maybe he think that everyone is like him since he get paid by the petrol industry. Before you ask someone to waste time on a clown like this, search yourself for people who say what they think about his claims. I found one after 10 sec. search. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWG4k5-QmdaLgbs

This video has aged pretty well, particularly the discussion around clustering at 7:28 with repeated disasters happening in short succession. Brisbane QLD is a great example of this, the 2011 devastating floods were followed closely by the 2012 floods (not as bad but still bad), then fast forward to 2021 Brisbane and the whole northern rivers of NSW gets completely monstered. Brisbane is then hit with more flooding the following year ruining any chances that families who were still waiting on insurance to fix their flooded properties of the ability to move back in as they got flooded again. Same thing happened in Lismore, flooded 5 times in the space of 18 months and they're very seriously having to look at relocating the town. So yeah, what you said is absolutely spot on and is effecting us right now.
