I think they are very sad individuals, so outside themselves they cannot know who they truly are them selves. Just marionettes playing parts, collecting trinkets ( awards) that don't really mean anything except to their inflated egos. A balloon has more character than these sort of personalities and they are just wind.

Indeed. The whole "ethics" machinery of scientology is designed to quash any dissent and break people, meanwhile, Hubbard formed a complex organisation infiltrating the FBI to lose files on scientology and get them on his percieved enemies (operation snow white)- the "ethics" of communist Russia or North Korea.

They sent me bills for thousands of dollars even tho my class was paid in full. Somehow declining anything more was highly offense so after that they sent a scientology agent to my rental house to harass me. My mother called them and threatened to put the story on the news. I worked on a film set as an extra many years ago that may have had a visit from Tom Cruise (he never ended up coming). We were warned that if we even made eye contact with him we would be instantly fired. We were to look at the ground and only look up to answer him if he addressed us directly. This was my direct personal experience. Funny thing is I am not star struck and would not have approached or bothered him either way. I don't know the guy and his happiness or discomfort don't make much difference to me.

@E de Montfort A narcissist isn't born, they are made. All it takes is an overbearing parent who believes their child is "special", that the child can do no wrong and is constantly told how much better they are than their peers. It's a very destructive parenting style and gives the child an unrealistic belief in their own importance. For some reason, probably to do with the idea that America is exceptional and the individual is more important than the community, America is the capital of the world when it comes to narcissists per capita.

I used to be called too sensitive when I was young. My mother would tell people Phyllis is too sensitive she can feel things too deeply. I have always had a sense that Tom Cruise was repulsive to me. I didn’t like seeing him or seeing his movies and that was before I knew about Scientology. I had a similar but not as extreme reaction towards Travolta. Never enjoyed his movies or his acting so haven’t watched any of his movies from start to finish. I had the same feeling towards Priscilla Presley, again long before I knew about her roll in Scientology. I wonder how much influence Scientology had to do with harming Lisa Marie. Every time I’ve seen Priscilla I cringe inside. I truly worry about her grandchildren and her influence over them.

I unfortunately got involved in Scientology myself back in 1981. In 1988 I finally came to my senses and left the cult for good. I never met so many dumb and ignorant people in one place. During my time in Scientology I experienced a lot of pressure and sometimes outright intimidation in their attempts to convince me to join staff full time. I also faced pressure and intimidation in their efforts to sell me high priced courses and auditing. People like Tom Cruise fit right in with the Church of Scientology. In any school you've ever attended or any company you've been employed with, there's always the chance of having one or two bad apples there. In the Scientology location I was involved with I can think of at least a dozen or more very unlikeable people. I hope you left without any emotional scars.

No one would care if he was gay he’s an amazing actor, if anything he would be supported by most people. Like I say it’s rumour but I wouldn’t put anything past cults

Even though John Travolta is a Scientologist, I get the feeling he’s genuinely a good guy. Tom Cruise, on the other hand is the most arrogant, entitled, manic and cringy personality I’ve witnessed. To be honest, I would likely struggle even being nice to him. There’s a part of me that would secretly take pleasure in being dismissive just to knock his ego.

I read that he was severely autistic. I remember when he was really young and in the hospital for something and Kelly gave an interview and said they just had carpeting installed and thought he was sick because of the toxins in it. John Travolta has never changed the way he speaks to people. He's always sounded super sweet and nice to everyone and polite and repesctful towards others. From when he started out as an actor to when he became super famous. I've never heard him yell or raise his voice beyond his always soft spoken voice. Even his wife seemed genuinely nice.

Angela, I definitely agree w/ you. I am sure that there are a lot of "good" people that have gotten sucked into this cult and will continue to, w/ John being one of them. ~ Tom, I would agree w/ all of the adjectives that you attached to him. I just re-watched yesterday part of an interview he did when he was 42, still married to Nicole and promoting The War of the Worlds w/ a British journalist that may have been done for 60 Minutes. The journalist HAD to go to a 4 hour "introduction" to Scientology before Tom would agree to be interviewed. The level of rudeness shown towards the journalist during the interview confirms ALL of the adjectives you've used about him. ~ I've never found him attractive and have seen few of his films. Does someone have to be attractive for me to watch their films? Of course not. I simply don't consider him to be a very good actor. ~ What I'm wondering now is, has there been an ongoing hunt for wife #4 for him or now, at 60, has it been deemed okay by Scientology for him to remain single?

Even though Will Smith was introduced to Scientology by Tom Cruise, in 2015, Will left. However, Jada, his wife, stayed affiliated with the cult. Yes, I’m calling it a cult because that’s what it is. (A religion my a$$.) Now, Will had been a part of Scientology when they spoke about the fact that it’s okay to hit someone who has wronged you. Yep. Poor Chris Rock was the recipient of that aggression on national television. If Ethics are violated within the cult, a "trial" by a Committee of Evidence can lead to punishments administered by a body called the Rehabilitation Project Force (RPF). Such punishments, which can last for months or years, typically consist of a regime of physical labor and lengthy daily confessions of "evil purposes.”

John Travolta son was diagnosed with Kawasaki's disease at the age of 15 months old he did take medication for several years but they took him off of it because the drug had just lost its effectiveness and the side effects were worse so the drug wasn't helping him and the side effects are horrible that's why he was taken off the medicine. They were in the Bahamas the whole family on vacation he was 16 years old he had a seizure and he hit his head on the bathtub and died shortly after that from a head injury so yes the travoltas did medically have their son looked at and taking care of and all that stuff and he was only taking off the medication because like I said it lost its effectiveness to the disease he had. And Tom Cruise can go sit on a sprinkler as far as I'm concerned I've never liked him.

A person can be a 'monster' and still fool people with their pleasant but false social personality. Especially a top notch actor like Cruise. O.J. Simpson is another prime example. My uncle and his girlfriend met O.J. Simpson in a liquor store in California. Nicole was with him so obviously before the murders. My uncle's girlfriend is legally blind and Simpson spotted her in the wine section and asked her if she needed help. She told him what brand she was looking for and he showed her where it was. In my opinion, the scariest monsters are the very superficial yet immensely charming individuals. They are certainly the most dangerous kind out there since they can charm their way through life. But they lack substance and the ability to introspect which hinders empathy.Plus TC is so consumed with himself and the people who deify him that he lives in an entire different world than reality where he feels special. Fragile little man.

Stumbled on this accidentally after watching some Leah Remini vids. Truly frightening. I've heard blurbs about Tom Cruise and the crazy Scientology stuff. To hear first hand from someone who says the guy is a monster was jolting. He is an actor. Acting is all about illusion. But it's a creepy reality. Good point though. If he was not so physically appealing he'd be nothing. He can't stop the aging, though he's trying, it's showing. What happens when he really can no longer stop it. It won't be good. So sad.

The reality about the criminal or amoral or unethical behavior about male stars is that it usually doesn't impact their careers at this point in time. It did for Fatty Arbuckle, but it doesn't seem to now. People are accepting about the "boys will be boys" mentality, but for women, there's no such option. If you're Winona Ryder and you shop lift, your career is over. If you're Danny Masterson and you "allegedly" slip something into women's drinks and then drag them off you your bedroom and leave them bleeding, it means that Danny just "had fun with" those women, who agreed to have that happen to them.

I remember at my first full-time job in 1978, working as a secretary to about 10 draftsmen, the loveliest one of the bunch mentioned that he had heard about this book called Dianetics and was interested in getting a copy. I can understand his interest because even now, it's being promoted on Amazon as a "self-help" book. Back then, Scientology had, I guess offices in a building on our most popular, at the time, street downtown for young people. Even then though, there was the general consensus that something was "off" about Scientology. We just didn't know how "off". ~ At any rate, I knew that their building gave out free copies of the book. Since I had been heading to that street for the five years previous and knew I probably would be the w/end following his mention, I offered to get him a copy. I simply walked in and retrieved a copy for him from the curiously unmanned desk. He was really happy that I had done that for him. I never did ask him later what he thought of the book after reading it and wish I had. I do know that he didn't become a Scientologist. I'd actually be interested in reading Dianetics now myself simply to see what Hubbard did write about "the modern science of mental health" in 1950. But, I'm not parting w/ $30 to do so. ~ It's really a shame, but for "teen brain" back then, I was more afraid of going for a free vegetarian lunch at The Hare Krishna Temple (thinking if I went, I'd never be seen again, LOL) than I was of walking into the Scientology building. It's okay now. The Hare Krishnas (which we haven't seen here for about three decades) run a lovely vegetarian restaurant out of their former Temple and anyone doing the math can see that I'm far removed from "teen brain" now. ~ To answer your questions, Andrew. I think that John Travolta is a "good" person who, unfortunately, got caught up w/ this cult and potentially may have lost his son and even wife because of his "religious" choice. I have NEVER cared for Tom Cruise. To me, he always seemed a bit "off", as w/ the general consensus in 1978 there was something "off" about Scientology. Narcissistic, selfish, arrogant, entitled and generally simply not a very "nice" person. Scientology? A cult through and through and a truly evil one, at that. I didn't realize how wacky and horrific the belief system is within it until I listened to an interview (apologies, not your's) w/ ex-Scientologist Mike Rinder within the last year.
