I live in Riverside County, and we have always supported and loved our sheriffs. Sheriff Bianco has won our support over the years. We live in a very rural area, and trust in our sheriffs. It was very disturbing to hear that they seem to be failing in protecting people at Gold base. 😢

It is really really hard to get gov't to look into any thing "religious" whether it is a scam or not - we protect the little and the big and they can be any kind of whacko they want to be, and the followers can do nearly any stupid thing they want to in support of that, too. It takes, nearly always, a huge commitment of illegal actions that are provable, concretely provable, before the gov't will take a serious look at them. Even then, people, usually, have to push hard to get them looked at for their wrongs. Added, I was born and raised in Riv CA. This is not an apology, this is a recognition of the trouble and difficulty any legal gov't has when looking at one of these farces.

Also, I would encourage you to get a mandated reporter to file the possible APS report on Heber if you suspect he is not being treated well. APS may not be infiltrated by Scientology and no one can be charged or sued for requesting a welfare check. The police do this as a regular courtesy for justified reasons.

I've lived in UT most of my life and I had never noticed Scientology here until I was at a dentist apt. a few years ago. The building they bought is right across from my dentist office. There were signs and balloons showing it was new. Now nothin!! I've never seen anyone go in or out of there. Now this story was NOT SMART in any way but. My goofy nephew & his friends went in to gain research to write a final paper before he graduated from high school shortly after it opened. They logged in under false names and emails. he went home that evening started writing his paper on what they saw and were told about this "religion" and he was getting emails that same day even though he signed false info. The fact that this nice woman concerned about her Uncle was contacted shortly after coming home by PI's is absolutely ludicrous!!! I wish Tammy the Best!!

I'm just now watching this but I used to work in mental health and social work. If a report was given that there was concern of elder abuse the investigation would also involve a social worker to do the check. Wondering if adult protective services was called for elder abuse?

What I understood after watching videos and podcasts about Scientology is that it is even worse since Miscavige(or however his name is written in English). But how did he become the head of Scientology after Hubbard? Doesn't California have Adult Protective Services? They should be contacted. Also, get a list of all scientologists all the families want welfare checks on and give the list to the sheriff dept. If it's a long list, the sheriff dept should realize that there's a real problem going on inside the compound and force their hand to check inside there. Also, if it's a long list, Scientologists might take a money hit on all the PIs they would have to send out.

Heber's family are way too nice. If I went to do a welfare check and the police pulled that nonsense, I'm screaming at the sheriff and causing a PR nightmare. Sheriffs are elected. They don't want bad press. A 79 yr old woman living alone has no business opening the door to strangers. Those PIs need a clear message they are not to harass family members. I realize this is easy for me to say, but seriously, if you want to rescue people from this cult, you have to get tough. The C of S uses intimidation to get their way.

I suspect the reason you were ineffective at rescuing Heber is you failed to recognize the fact that you are fighting a spiritual war. Might I suggest you rally a group to do prayer prior to any of the work you do. This is an evil that can be sensed in this battle.
