Some nice stuff there Peter, your planetary surfaces are really good. The first clip, unfortunately, looks like a composite of two separate models or scenes. The ambient/scene lighting on the ship is just not right, it doesn't seem consistent with the background lighting. It also needs to be dynamic, at least to a certain extent. It's as if you rendered the background landscape with cycles, and the ship with eevee, or at the very least, a completely different lighting set up. You can always use animated gobos to simulate passing cloud shadows on the ship for the dynamic effect. My favourite model is probably the tall building - it's striking and original - '5th element' kind of design, and has a really good feel of scale.

Thanks for the comments. The lighting in the first scene is as you described. I was searching for a way to make the ship stand out against the background, so I composited a layer for the background and for the ship with brighter lighting. It was a bit of artistic license. I love the idea of animated gobos. Thanks for that tip. I also like the building, yet I found not many others did. Glad it worked for you.

@@peteracuthbert hey Peter, thanks for your response. I understand entirely what you are describing for the first clip. Difficult to get that right. I would like to mention a couple of youtube things that you might find interesting. There's a guy called Max Hay, who has his own channel, who has done some really good videos on scene lighting, scene building etc. Buildings: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4mVmIKGopqMf6Msi=CyIwD6I6HVOIAg5t Lighting: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6mxq5miobWGgMUsi=YhiPM7GjxavJtJO6 Another little discovery I made only in the last week was Steve Burg, and his short animation 'Colony in the rain'. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y16WeXVobrSGoJYsi=QCpPwfoYwkpMo5bY It is just full of great ideas and 'atmosphere', but is still relatively simple. I think it's a great source of inspiration for blender creators like us.

The lit window ports on engine cowling (first craft) and on the booster (third vessel) just doesn't make sense - otherwise, I like the designs and motion graphic effects. But what really surprised me was this was all done in Blender.

Thanks. The engine lights are a product of artistic licence. They may not be engines, maybe tractor field generators :)
