The Hulk tv show had alot of exceptional episodes but this one goes beyond exceptional. The drama of David being trapped in between his metamorphosis and the Hulk actually being captured by somebody is 1st grade entertainment in every since of the word!!!

This two-part episode was the 4th season premiere. At the time, the show had become the most expensive show too produce. So producers and crew pulled out all the stops for the season. It was during filming of the 5th season that the show was abruptly canceled. It was a shock to cast and crew, in that it was a too late to film a final episode where David is cured for good. The ratings were good enough for another season. But CBS and Universal Studios were upset about the rising production costs. Sadly, I was a diehard fan of the show. And wanted him cured, not killed.

I guess the budget didn’t allow for episodes like this much but these were great! I always thought “The First” had a great setup but could’ve been more than 2 episodes.

Me too. Being stuck in his half-Hulk/half-human state obviously frightened him, but his ability to growl and display physical strength underlined the severity of his condition IMHO.

Fun fact. The half demi-Hulk was played by Ric Drasin, a known body builder. He had to dye his hair to black for the role since he had naturally blond hair.

This was undoubtedly the Hulk's greatest challenge from the TV show. The resources that Promethesus had to capture the Hulk were very sophisticated! The facility they had was well organized,the Hulk had no easy task escaping Promethesus!! Brilliant conclusion to part 1,the Hulk is trapped in this giant red indestructible dome,what does he do now? Perfect cliffhanger,Kenneth johnson made the perfect show for the Hulk. No corny run of the mill typical superhero tv show with subpar special effects,Kenneth made the Hulk show with deep meaning that would stand the test of time all the way up to present day and will continue to do so from this day forward!!!

@@foamfan7593 It would have been amazing if they could have gotten Arnold or any male bodybuilder to play the transformed "first" hulk. The green skinned "wolf man" look that they choose for "the first" hulk really didnt do it for me, especially in the final battle scene in the lab. Lou's hulk looked so huge and muscular compared to him that he should have been able to squash him like a bug in the first few minutes of the fight.

@@glennszydlowski5987 I'm guess the reason for chooseing a slimmer thin hulk for the "First Hulk" was do to the fact Del Fry was a old man at the time David Banner met him. so he is not going to look young and strong as the Evil Hulk.. yes he is stronger then his human self even when young but you can tell Del doesn't have a body builder look..well Banner is not a body builder either but....he is younger........so maybe the evil hulk is not as strong as he was when Del was young..............just a guess mind you. I'm not 100% sure......... one thing I notice was in the pilot episode when David first became the hulk his co worker Elania...tells David his Hulk is not a killer do to the fact he is guided by Banner's personality and David Banner is not Evil...........in this episode. it proves Elania right because Del is a evil Man killing the teenager and the Bully at the store....Del's Hulk is guided by his personality.....Clive's diary also proves Elania right...and it says Del's hulk is evil do to Del's personality

Except that it’s not Lou. It was Ric Drasin. Ric’s blonde hair was dyed black for the role. It was also cut and styled to resemble Bill and Lou’s hair. Ken Johnson wanted someone with a bigger body than Bill but not as big as Lou. Hence the selection of Ric Drasin.

It would have been amazing to see the intense gamma radiation from the meteor to make the Hulk into a "super" Hulk, 10'+ tall with much more strength than the "normal" Hulk. Of course, such a "super" Hulk would have been impossible for the non CGI special effects technology of the 70s/80s but it would have been amazing to see him take on the army forces like the tank scene from the Hulk movie.

@@foamfan7593 How would you feel if the intense gamma radiation from the meteor transformed the woman into an ultra-muscular super strong rage filled she hulk? I can just imagine one of the hugely muscular modern female bodybuilders of today playing the she hulk character as she and the Hulk go on a superpowered rampage against the military trying to capture them. I know a very muscular woman is not everyone's preference, but it has always been a fantasy of mine to see a muscular woman with superhuman strength going on a rampage.

Good thing that there weren't any bees at that near the meteor after what they did to David Banner earlier when they were stinging him, and he changed into the Hulk to fight them. Otherwise, Katie would be attacked by them and they're too small for the Hulk to punch. Also, it was good that the United States Army didn't open because they would've hit Katie instead of the Hulk.

Jack McGee was so speechless when he saw David Banner as half-a Hulk change into a full Hulk and battle the United States Army and then he and the blind girl Katie get taken to Prometheus because they assumed that the Hulk is an alien.

It's a shame that Prometheus proved to be a one off. They would've made a better adversary for the Hulk. A bigger game changer would have been McGee discovering David's secret and becoming a reluctant ally after branded a fugitive himself.

The double episodes, which included this one Prometheus, The First, and Mystery Man, gave more time to develop the story and have more happening than in the usual weekly show When shown back to back they became one Feature length episode, so you were effectively watching a Hulk movie

@shannonnolan6195 - TV Hulk is definitely weaker compared to the cinematic Hulks of 2003, 2008, and 2012. But don't forget, Hulk is guided by Banner's conscience, so none of the Hulks would purposely kill regular humans. If you're looking for victims to be "finished", go watch a slasher movie!

If you look after the dome captures the Hulk, the bottom of the dome is curved so I would guess that the floor of the dome actually dug into the ground under the Hulk's feet when it closed. If you watch at 4:53, you can see the depression that was left after the dome "scooped" up the Hulk"

This is the least that the Hulk ever wore during the entire series. Of course, if David really did transform into a very tall, ultra-muscular Hulk, he should have also burst out of his underwear as well but of course in that case the show would have had to be X rated.

@@glennszydlowski5987 After his very first Hulkout, David would've quickly adapted and made the change to purchasing and wearing only the largest-size underwear available at retail. Not hard to do, as TV Hulk was only 7-feet tall in size, not the monstrous 9-feet tall cinematic incarnations you saw in 2008 and 2012, and certainly not the outrageous 15-feet tall cinematic version you saw in 2003.

@juggalogamer8541 - Bodybuilding in the 1970's / early 1980's wasn't hyper-obsessed with legs just yet. Go back even further to the 1950's and 1960's, and you can see bodybuilders with large upper bodies coupled with even smaller legs. Plus, Lou was training to maintain screen-worthy size and definition throughout the entirety of each Hulk TV season, not to train and peak for a major competition event.
