Operates more like a Techno-Mage from Babylon 5... "We are dreamers, shapers, singers, and makers. We study the mysteries of laser and circuit, crystal and scanner, holographic demons and invocations of equations. These are the tools we employ, and we know many things."

I still wonder how aliens would react if they heard the Cant Mechanicus - you know, the "From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh..." - for the first time.

"Turning it off and on again" fixes a wealth of faulty misbehaving software/hardware/etc but it also definitely works better for some people. Be nice & make use of them rather than soldier on painfully 'cause you won't admit help is required.

i just wanna say thank you for linking and crediting the original author. so many of these channels constantly spring up and it's obvious they're just content thieves. i just wanna make sure you know it's appreciated when someone like you does it right.

Turns out the reactor was barely outputting and just needed a flush. Everything else throughout the ship was just starved of energy and that's why they were malfunctioning

I approve! Niice short story. As any Harley Mechanic knows, the torque spec of: "1/4 turn before "Oh SHIT!" seems applicable.

the human probably went out and then took off all the gear and stuff and had a good laugh. "Just a gunked up reactor, knock the gunk loose and boom! works perfectly!"

mm , a universe with warp stuff ,but no arbitrary 'allegiance' to things ..yep neat , would not mind complex machines accidentality getting some subconscious aspects as tech and warp sparks merged through its fibers and circuits reflecting its history as much as it might reflect off its crew... woe the pirate that tortures a engineer that is beloved by its mindless ships spirit!

I dunno. It's a good story but I'm more of a sci-fi purist and can't go with the fantasy aspect. That's a separate genre and ne'er the two should meet.
