I have absolutely been loving these stories that involve humans but not in a human-centric way. Good stuff.

My only question about these creatures is what happens to them when they are without hosts? Do they just mindlessly/instinctively attack/attach themselves to the nearest creature or is there a lingering intelligence that lets them choose not to infest a new host?
@sandrosliske
@sandrosliske 10 ай бұрын
The way it was briefly described here makes it sound like that it purely instinctual despite the fact that they can carry memories over from the previous hosts.

Really nice story. It reminds me of those old science fiction magazine stories that I've read in the past. Really love the plot and the pacing! I enjoyed it immensely!

I'm glad the author got to write such good story with a happy ending with people being far more accepting with the governments actively helping these misunderstood and villainized beings. I would have loved to of seen the changeling's transitional period between bodies and completely new life on Earth. But this was more than enough to pass the grade.

This species is in a sense a naturally evolved version of the Mind Transfer device in the Dollhouse show. There are a lot of differences of course, but if the 'parasite' is transferring its mind and memories then the ethics of getting a Host Body would be similar to the show. Tech that allows transfer of a mind to a new body can have an unethical use; erase an existing mind to put a new mind in the same brain. With cloning tech and even rudimentary brain scanners; they do not need to detect any specific thoughts, but only detect if there is large scale activity that would imply a conscious mind...so the ethical version would be to only allow a mind to be transferred to a Clone that is verified as not having any mind or memories. How that could be verified in a manner that is trusted would be hard to figure out, but a culture that wants the type of immortality possible with mind transfers + to be as ethical as possible using the tech, would have checks and security to minimize the criminal or less ethical version. The parasite seems to have been transferred to a clone instead of a Human Infant that had not developed a mind. When Humans develop an actual mind in the womb is unknown to me, but anything after 2 months seems dubious as far as after that there would likely be some type of mind IMO. Mind Transfer or species like this parasite would have many philosophical and ethical discussions about the ethics of what they can do, but in a really high tech civilization it would be possible so such implications would need to be discussed. I think besides the Dollhouse show I have read about 8 stories that have similar species or technologies.

hmm , though with such tech one also have to ask the question of why to bother with organic hosts but i suppose one can make an argument even if you have the tech to handle neuron patterns , biology for clinical immortality or material sciences for none organic materials to house flexible neurons not is practical.. though in the parasite case , as the story tells transfer of some physical matter is still required yee.. anything gestating to the point where anything of the brain and spine formed to any extent beyond soft muscles reflexes be hard to not call murder.. it would make a very curious use of research into exactly what can cause a kid to be born braindead though , and it be something that said channellings as a species be quite keen to establish some sort of formal government to support , and well... if the threat detail of the involuntary aspect of the species reproduction cycles where removed , they be tempting assets as espionage agents for many militaries even if extremely monitored as being slack about any unsanctioned 'possession' be rather stupid
@denalozecon9074

@@Amoth_oth_ras_shash The Parasite species probably would have some members that are captured then trained normally, or brainwashed...as assassins or spies. Still since other species are aware they exist there would be specialized scanners in high security locations that would detect them. Thus while they could be okay as thugs or common assassins they would still have a lot of difficulty becoming whatever counts as the best John Wick contender. The Parasites would have other problems. One is some species they would be incompatible with; one or both of them would die if they tried to integrate/posses some species. Another is they were not PERFECT at possession; they had to consiously and with concentration do what is normally a subconsious action...so they were inferior at BEING or acting like the Species they possessed vs the regular Unpossessed members of that species. Two parts of the Control Limitation were mentioned; not being able to use the full Muscular Strength of the four armed Alien Soldier, and not being as Agile or as Dexterous as the unpossessed members of that species...because EVERY body movement was a consious choice instead of an instinct or a trained automatic reaction that Martial Artists try to achieve as their 'instinctive' reaction in combat. Currently my spellcheck is glitching bad, dunno why. But it is showing six words as mispelled, when I select them I get giberish and weird glitches I can't define;-(

This is such a vile and evil parasite that I find it incredibly hard to believe that humanity would have even an ounce of sympathy for it. Just think about it; how would you feel if a parasite that requires a sentient host to have sentients of its own was piloting your loved ones corpse after killing them in a horrific fashion, not even giving them the dignity of having a proper death?

Halfway through. She(?) just turned 15. And indeed it's panning out to be a great story. Even with the AI being an obvious AI, I find it easy to let my mind 'readjust' its word flubs. Honestly, easier than getting into the reading style of most human story tellers. Almost as if keeping a mostly neutral inflection gives my mind the 'breathing room' it needs to paint a world. Or maybe I'm just weird.

@@cameltube-vk7el yess , now i dont know how people use words around you but here we tend to make a specific set of them when its to the context of someone else words , rather then just chant something one said openly for the subject itself you know one response where specifically to a guys own words about the story and the other just words to reflect the thoughts themselfs concerning the tale and nothing else , left to show the appreciation of the tale by leaving words to 'echo' the thoughts it inspired so dumb it down ? the only flaw i see is that the dam auto correct and laag messed up ''can make create'' for some reason ...as that should been more like ''can inspire'' ..but if you wish to play critic having the basic cognitive capability to adjust such verbal details that often to pop up across language barriers on the fly should be a basic thing for you cognitive capabilities not to mention , i dont leave words for free material to cater to grammar or nit picking assholes i leave them to leet any author or reader or audience that not wants to be a prick have a glimpse of what thoughts the material inspired. no one forces you to read my crap , and until you start paying me i for sure aint going to waste time dissecting each flowery words related concept into what ever colourless drab explanation you need to grasp it.

@@cameltube-vk7el you know how humans tends to tailor words if they are for public vs if they are part of a interaction with a specific person ? no ? so i guess you said a single time in your entire life that you where hungry and now never ever mentions it agen because hey ,you said it once to your mom when you where 5... so why ever mention it to anyone else , or in any other place hmm ? and if you wish something dumbed down suggesting you dont quite can 'process' it in one place... yet critics it for even having been mentioned in the 'company' of another persons words elsewhere as if you know exactly what its every possible meaning might be there.. you know what that sounds like right ? some snow flake that cant handle something they have emotional attachment to getting any response that not is mindless chanting praise and thus you react like a 14 year old cry baby with passive hostility or what ever else tool you just discovered. at least try use that lump of grey go you have example , what might ''spark of cognition'' be do you think ? ..what might a person be if you could peel of all carbon matter and house them in something else ? and since 'existence' more or lees can apply to everything from space time curvature to raw matter or even quantum particles.. what might you think that term can be used for ? perhaps as a term that every thing thats sentient or sapient shares the same universe etc regardless how they developed in it. and shared values.. seriously ? is that hard to process for you ? if thats the case i be concerned you not be able to understand the golden rule and runaround butchering or looting others the moment you dont fear for some fairytale punishment rather then the fact.. you dont want to be killed or starve to death from something else taking what you need for food etc , so tada! SHARED VALUES others likely dont want that either , so it be quite motivational to use your intellect to find ways to co-exist or even benefit each others survival dont it aka 'interesting use of tech/creation of it' next time , dont do the equivalent to runt through the pub snarling at everyone not to talk about the priests words because hey , a guy 50 years ago already commented on it in another village so everyone best leet the priest be the only one allowed to talk in public ...and i find you lees obnoxious when later in a corner asking someone to explain to you what the few words said even meant.
