To me this seems to be a new and interesting variation of an old story I read somewhere, or maybe it was an old Dr. Who episode. Where a race of people had been subjugated slowly and subtly by people or robots working as servants to their "masters" to the point where the "masters" became so dependent on these servitors that the so called "masters" were controlled by the servitors. Even Disney's "WALL-e" movie was sort of this vain of movie. Very enjoyable.

I think this is honestly how Ai takes over. Not even malevolence by the Ai. Just so integrated with human society that humans are just replaced till it becomes a society run by and controlled by Ai. Human then just exist to be a benefactor of the society but not a needed component of it.

So what is the premiss here ? Humans are not allowed access to weapon systems ? But does that apply to human made ships and Human territory as well ? Can hardly see humans approving of that policy without neutron bombing half the galaxy into submission lol. Either I like the engineer guy, this was a fun story.

I think it meant for non-Human's ship. The xenos don't want us to tinkering with their weapons for fearing we might turn them into WMD and break some galactic laws or what ever.
