correct, except for the last part. The Emperor's mind controls the released psychic energy of the sacrificed psykers and directs it where needed to guide ships through the warp. He doesn't actually consume them.

In the first picture, the line of people are not guards, they are those 1000 unfortunate psykers whom the emperor devours each day to nourish his mind.

Even John Blanche the artist for the most common image of the emperor sat on the throne said that one is an imposter for pilgrims to visit, that the real emperor looks more like the one shown here hidden in a backroom hooked up to all sorts of strange devices

Robots had some funky rules. In one variant they had to program their orders. You jot down orders one, two or three turns in advance. The smarter the robot is, the fewer moves you need to think ahead.

I like to think there is no proper real art of him. The propaganda and cathedral art, even the giant one to the door of the palace, are made by people who never see him. The same with the vile cult propaganda against him. No demon of chaos or their ilk, perhaps not even the gods, can see what the corpse emperor actually looks like. Some 300-1000 people work in his direct presence, and they don't talk.

My theory is the emperor is indeed quite dead. The golden throne stuff is his legacy. The psychers sacced daily? Propaganda. The ones who have worked with him or heard his voice are really just a council keeping a dead empire crawling forward. I also like to imagine that the imperium is infact attempting to bring the big e back. We sometimes have primarchs found alive or simply found. This could be more failed attempts and are returned to theyre legions to bolster numbers and morale. The cult simply sprung up to keep the big e alive in the minds of the people.

@SusCalvin I like that theory. I believe Terra is actually a putrid rotting planet. The traces of a once glorious empire are there but are slowly decomposing into oblivion.

Enslavers had an update of sorts back in an WD in 2003, which required some serious kit bashing with 'nid bitz and green stuff. With the rules they were given, they could, with some clutch rolling, control the entire enemy army!! But otherwise were a bit squishy. Fun for a game.

The man with a mask is actually a representation of someone wearing syn-skin, a skin that covers the whole body, and provides protection from vacuum and harmful gases. The game was much more RPG-like back in those days, and there was a whole lot of sci-fi equipment your characters could get, something not allowed with the standardization of armies to official miniatures nowadays.

I think third edition was peak 40k Grimdark it hooked me and my friend and to this day it still has some of the best art works ever made in it. When looking back at Rouge Trader it needs to be remembered that it didnt start out as anything other than a board game, later on they used it to insert the idea of Warhammer into it they were looking for something to attach warhammer to and asked the creator of Rouge Trader and he agreed to it and thought it was a good idea.

The Emperor's Throne Room looked to be inspired by HR Geiger. Like the architecture in the Atreides Palace on Caledan. And the Alien in some movie who's name I have forgotten... Predator I think.

Enslavers in Gladius floats. They patrol around archeotech sites. They had a power to mentally control low-morale troops and were pretty beefy. A company of troops could take one on. A lot of these neutral xenos listed were not intended to be controlled by the players. They are just part of the world. The ref would control them as part of the scenario. You might be fighting when these buggers try to break in. Or a bit of random space dogs are circling around.

YES ... In the movie "Critters" , one of the Bounty hunters took the Face of a "Rock Star" from a band on MTV... (When they Actually played Videos... LOL!), they had intercepted a cable TV feed and saw the Video and copied the Dudes face. Beforehand, the Face looked just like this... A blank , clay face looking mold .. Good call !!

We did have a Terminator set in the future war. Terminator Salvation,.The one with Christian Bale as John Connor. It is the film where the famous audio clip of him going off on a crew member is from. The movie is not terrible but it was not great.(It's better than Genysis or Dark Fate)

Seeing the two juggers , l get a flashback of ice planet lego wheels and a 1 to 1 snow vehicle from late 80s, with added spoler and gun mounts at the back. The left side jugger to me is white/blue/black and orange and the right one is US Fanta orange with blue elements.
