If it were all fake, then that would mean that student astronomers would have to be taken to some kind of secret meeting (presumably after graduation). "Ok fellow astronomers, now we can let you in on the big secret. Everything you've learned is a lie, so we need you to pretend to contribute to science for the rest of your career. We know this is a big shock, and you probably feel like throwing in the towel and telling everyone about it, but you can't because 'they' will find out and come after you. Ok, love you , bye!"

Clearly a scam, but game owner allows it anyway. Grrrr.

Just so I understand correctly. Flat-Earthers accept the science of what we can see and how strong a light source needs to be for us to see it at all (whether the information in the video is correct or not). But if the same scientific methodology is used to show that the universe, stars and planets exist, as well as details of their properties and how far away they are from us, then all of a sudden it's nonsense? Flat earthers please, either you accept science or you don't. But you can't just take what you like and ignore everything else or call it wrong.

Usually they're trying to show that our math and science doesn't match with reality. It's not that they trust it, as they are just trying to have their "gotcha" moment. The small issue is that they usually don't understand the science well enough, so they assume a bunch of wrong things and think their stupidity is their "gotcha" moment. It's the same every time.

What he doesn't get is that the NIOSH report is talking about a room being illuminated at 0.01 lux - then it is very difficult to pick up colors in that room. You know - if you were to work in a room with such poor lighting. Say you have to pick the read cable from the orange cable. However it is much different if a colored light source is emitting light - even at very low levels - you would be able to tell the color of the emitter. And in the case of Mars - even if it is not technically light emitter - it receives MUCH more than 0.01 lux - which is then reflected back to us.

I had a school mate who tried to join the RAF as a pilot and took a test where you had to identify the colour of a small coloured dim light. It was simulating the navigation lights on a distant aircraft at night. I don't know if he could not see the light or could not identify the colour of the light but he failed. Since a lot of people go on to be pilots I have to believe that they could identify the colour of a very small and dim light in the dark.

If I remember correctly, when he swung the gate the image of the camera closest to the hinge would move more slowly across the frame than the image from the camera mounted at the end of the gate, because that camera is nearer the object being viewed. He thinks that the stars should do the same thing because some viewers on Earth are closer to them than viewers at different locations. Of course he totally ignores the effects of scale and distance in his little experiment. 😂

@@irrelevant_noob I think there is an issue with X photons per square metre hit the moon from the sun. When the moon only reflects Y percentage of photons at the Earth then there are not many photons when you have X x Y / 100. However he is probably not multiplying by the number of square metres of the moon's surface that are reflecting photons at the Earth. There is usually some basic error in the numbers flerfs come up with. You only have to consider how they butcher 8" per mile² when they try to use it.

You mentioned measuring Jupiter's distance using radar. I looked it up to see if that's actually been done. Jupiter was successfully ranged in 1963 using the Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex. This was a groundbreaking achievement, as it was the first time radar was used to range a planet beyond Mars. The radar measurements helped refine the astronomical unit (AU). The radar signal took approximately 45-50 minutes for a round trip at opposition.
@coyotezee
@coyotezee 49 минут бұрын
It has also been used to measure the distance to other planets. Most notably it measures the distance to Venus when it is at greatest elongation. This was done for the first time back in 1958. This helped establish accurate distances for all the objects in the solar system, which then, via the law of gravity, gave accurate masses for all objects as well. Cool what science can do.

I have to admit that the weird Gateman is using the luminosity of celestial bodies for his confusing argument about the flat earth is a very clever move. Of all the SI units, the units of illumination are probably the least known. Hardly anyone - and I include myself - can immediately recite the difference between candela, lux and lumen, absolute and apparent magnitude, unless they work with them every day. These units also play hardly any role in traditional physics classes. This topic is therefore ideal for confusing other people with half-knowledge. This makes the educational work you are doing here all the more important, Dan. Thank you for that!

Okay, I've got a new conspiracy theory, which is more plausible than FE... Dan hides himself behind the mask of our favorite demonstrable realist, to gather some FEs around him and either... a) ...f*ck them all up in a big surprise one day or b) ...protect us from them by keeping them in their own zone That impression was on top!
