I have the exact same car as you. Mines a 2014 with the same led lights in the front and same spoiler in the back. Thanks for making this video. I need to change mine cause I'm close to 100k now

You're welcome, and yes, I think the owner's manual recommends it done at 60k. My mother's was dirty enough that it shoulda been done at 60k.

updates? tbh this is the only some what tutorial i found on auto trans at least…
@richardhoover8021 Жыл бұрын
The car shifts smoother and just went on a 500 mile trip without issue. Yes, there's nothing I could find on an auto trans fluid change for this car anywhere; hence why I made this video.

@@aeyvuh2694 YW, take your time. Be anal about keeping everything going into the tranny medically clean. Be ok with a little mess outside of it, and have a sense of satisfaction that you saved money and may likely have done a better job than the Toyobaru tech you'd have paid. May also have a cleaner change overall to as I read some dealers only exchange 2.1 quarts total instead of 6.3

isn't the first bolt your empty the over flow drain in case you put too much in it?

Not exactly, level will fluctuate based upon temperature.

Did you have to do that whole “pin in the obd2 and shift back and forth” thing?
@Mellyfilm Жыл бұрын
You should measure the right level of fluid at fluid temperature 43°C - 47°C (109.4°F - 116.6°F). So without SSM3 this is the only way to do it right.
@richardhoover8021 Жыл бұрын
No pin in the OBD, but yes shift thru the gears to circulate fluid between each change. I didn't want to try to get it up to operating temperature and mess with the OBD and finding the right level. This is why I measured what I drained at a cold temperature, so I knew what the level was at from the factory. Then on the final fill I made sure to put back the exact amount I drained the first time (bringing it back to where it was from the start).

What do you do with the old transmission oil?
@richardhoover8021 Жыл бұрын
Take it to a local auto parts store. They usually all have a used oil/transmission fluid collection vat by law. Since they sell new oils they have to collect old oils for recycling.

Where did you get the crush washers for the plug?
@richardhoover8021 Жыл бұрын
Sorry, I didn't. I know it's not recommended, but I reused (I flipped it over in an attempt to flatten the excess other direction). The second link in my description gives the washer part number in the first post of the thread.

cant you just refill exactly how much comes out instead of using the pin method?
@richardhoover80219 ай бұрын
I presume so. It's what I did. However, if you're unsure of the car's service history (or you think someone may have filled it before you incorrectly), if the tranny shifts funny, etc. The pin method gets you back to the factory recommended spec the engineers designed it for. I give what that measurement is (or was for me) in case you can't do the pin method.
