Haha when I saw you opening the fill plug and said "oh man, it does not have to be that tight" I had the exact same experience of my BRZ when opening that plug. :) Thank you for making these videos. I find it useful to get an understanding where the things are located and to get the correct part numbers. Owner of a Subaru BRZ 2016 and Levorg GT-S 2016 1.6 DIT.

Thank you for such great videos. Inspired me to do my own work on my 08 NA Impreza. One question unrelated: my 08 NA MT Impreza has 150k kms on it, we owned since new, it’s consuming all the oil on the dipstick every 2000km basically. No smoke or visible leaks. Using 5W 30 as recommended by manufacturer. I’m pretty disappointed given how low miles the engine has. Any advice on what could be the cause, and if newer Subarus have similar reliability issues?

Awesome video!!!! Just picked up a 2023 BRZ!! Weirdest of questions, but the service manual states first service is at 6k miles. I honestly think that’s kind of a stretch for a first service after initial break in. Should I stick to that or get it done earlier?

The parts from Subaru both say "drain plug." Does this mean the crush washers are the same for fill and drain?

I recently got a ‘13 Scion FR-S. Does it matter if I replace the PCV Valve with one from Toyota? Part from Toyota is $17.76. From Subaru it’s $54.38. Looking forward to more BRZ/FR-S/86 content.

Hello MrSubaru. What are your thoughts on Subaru's staked Ujoint on the driveshaft? My 2010 is going to need a new ujoint soon and since they are staked, I have to buy Ujoint with C-clips and need to find my proper size. Should I remove my staked U joint on my 2010 Outback or get a used one? New they are 1200$ cad.. and scrapyard one is a pain to find since I drive the 6speed version.. I woukd like to just remove those staked ujoints and put one with a c clip.. seems like its doable by doing research and seeing other people change a staked ujoint to a c clip one but any input would be appreciated.

I’m getting very mixed notes for my 2018 Crosstrek 6 manual transmission gear oil. I’m seeing every one on the forums talking about the manual transmission needing Subaru gear oil extra mt, in 75w80. My owners manual even says this. Part number SOA748V0100, I can’t find it in quarts. Dealer says they just use the 75w90 synthetic…. Forums say that will cause poor milage… Help?! Just hit 30k and the front diff is at the low mark.

I just bought a 2020 Legacy Limited 2.5 engine. It has 36,000 miles on it. I have found something that says I have a front and rear differential. Should I change oil in both now? Thanks Paul

MrSubaru, which front and rear differential oil can be used for 2015 Outback 2.5 L.? The repair manual says to use SUBARU GEAR OIL EXTRA MT for both front and rear diffs. But for 3.6L it says to use GL-5 (75W-90) gear oil for the rear diff, and for the front diff either Subaru Extra MT or as a substitute 75W-90. The problem is it's hard to find Subaru Extra MT oil. The only option comes up online is a 5 Gal bucket for a crazy price.

Genuine Subaru Gear Oil Extra MT 75W-80 is uniquely formulated for Subaru manual transmissions. This low viscosity fluid reduces mixing resistance, enables efficient power transfer from engine to tires and provides improved fuel economy. If you have a manual transmission find a gear oil in 75w-80. If automatic transmission use the 75w-90 GL5, You do not need to use Subaru brand, any brand such as Castrol, Valvoline, etc.. will be sufficient. Rear diff takes 75w-90. 75w-90 can be used for a manual transmission but may shift harder when cold.

There very first thing Mr. Subaru said was 3 years of 36,000 miles. My 2017 Outback has only 24,000 miles on it presently. So should I have this gear oil changed? My dealer says yes. I'm really kinda skeptical that I don't need to change yet. Anybody? Is there any reason to think gear oil would go bad after 3 years??

I'm new to owning a Subaru. It's not new itself, but I have some questions. Do you have somewhere you are able to discuss? I just had the engine replaced and it sounds like a lawnmower! I'm so exhausted with the dealership at this point---granted it's been covered by the warranty, but it's turned into a nightmare.
