As a high school student in the 1970s, someone in the group of kids I hung out with (it could have been me) came up with the re-made idiom, 'cool as a computer.' They were just starting to become accessible to the average person. (We could play Oregon Trail on a keyboard connected to an off-site computer, in a special room set aside just for that purpose. Our interface was through a Western Electric telephone handset placed in a really crude, very slow acoustic modem). So this seemed a hep thing to say. I only bring this up here because whenever I watch/listen to SciShow Tangents, geeky tangents become my mental thing.

Hank, we have fun sized Coke in the Philippines. It's 200 ml, and could be downed in one gulp or two. Here, it's marketed as Coke Swakto, a play on the Filipino phrase "swak na swak" and "sakto" which means "just right" and "exactly" respectively; but I think oyther countries have it too and is marketed as Coke Solo.

33:33 Some plants actually don't need to be in the same genus to hybridize! Orchids are probably most famous for hybrids across closely related genera, and since orchid hybrids continue to cross and form more hybrids, you can even get some with parentage from three or four genera. I've also come across some frequently cultivated Amaryllidaceae species that can form intergeneric hybrids

I grew up in a town with a Nestlé factory. Which sounds great, but the amount of feckin crunch bars I was forced to eat for 18 years. I'm sorry. But Nestlé chocolate is waxy AF. So, sorry, Ceri, I do not understand.

We have a local historical Farm that's still operating as a kind of living museum and I got to taste a cucumber straight off the vine. It was a jarring experience because I've only ever eaten them cold, but it was a sunny day out and the cucumber was really pretty warm

@@dstinnettmusic I can't even be around them, so it goes way past a food allergy. But nobody puts watermelons or cucumbers or pumpkins or anything on labels to say this was made on Machinery that also made things with these allergies in it, which makes things very difficult

Now I want to carve a watermelon for Halloween. Way better guts inside one, versus a pumpkin. Though roasting watermelon seeds would not be nearly as rewarding as pumpkin seeds. Nice Truth or Fail fabrications, Ceri.

Reese’s are boring, seriously?! Sam’s right, they’re the best! Each size and shape has a slightly different chocolate-to-peanut-butter ratio and different thickness to parts of the chocolate, and don’t get me started on the variations… Nutrageous was one of my favorites for quite a while because of the peanut butter nougat, but Take 5’s are in the lead right now (among the variations) because of the pretzels. Yum 😊 eta: the smallest eggs and the pumpkins have the best ratio of all in my opinion

Alleged cucumber-melon hybrids are almost always the result of people picking melons too early, because melons are white in the middle through most of their development and only develop color later. Crosses are quite rare between different cucurbit species but not impossible, as the Japanese Tetsukabuto squash is a hybrid of C. Moshcata and C. Maxima. Certain plants can hybridize across genuses (for instance, the shipova fruit is a hybrid of pear which is genus Pyrus and whitebeam which is genus Sorbus), but as far as I know none of the cucurbits can bridge that gap.

But cucumbers and cantaloupe ARE part of the same genus (Cucumis). Could they not cross-pollinate at least on the rare occasion?

Board games are games. Games and toys are related, or at least the objects of games and toys are related The difference lies in toys lacking direction and games having a predetermined goal. I saw a tree diagram once that broke down toy vs puzzle vs game vs sport Toys lack direction, puzzles have direction but are collaborative. Games have direction and are combative in nature. Games and puzzles become sports when the individual games have a wider structure in which the games have a wider meaning.
