*Jesus, Lover of My Soul* 1. Jesus, lover of my soul, Let me to Thy bosom fly, While the nearer waters roll, While the tempest still is high. Hide me, O my Savior, hide, Till the storm of life is past; Safe into the haven guide; O receive my soul at last. 2. Other refuge have I none, Hangs my helpless soul on Thee; Leave, ah! leave me not alone, Still support and comfort me. All my trust on Thee is stayed, All my help from Thee I bring; Cover my defenseless head With the shadow of Thy wing. 3. Thou, O Christ, art all I want, More than all in Thee I find; Raise the fallen, cheer the faint, Heal the sick, and lead the blind. Just and holy is Thy name, I am all unrighteousness; False and full of sin I am; Thou art full of truth and grace. 4. Plenteous grace with Thee is found, Grace to cover all my sin; Let the healing streams abound; Make and keep me pure within. Thou of life the fountain art, Freely let me take of Thee; Spring Thou up within my heart; Rise to all eternity.

I love acappella singing. I was in a baptist choir some years ago and they, like all now, pick the best singers for praise teams and the choir is often left out. It was sad. Like someone said here also, most of the congregations let the choirs sing or if they sing it is half heartedly. Here everyone sings from the heart. Very refreshing not to hear drums banging and electric guitars, but just the pure worship of the voice. Lastly, to see the close ups of the women and the pure looks on their faces was a blessing. This is the true beauty of Christ shining through these Godly people.

Not to mention the decibel level of rock music in these contemporary churches. Most people in a secular sense may go to a rock concert possibly a few times in their whole lives. But these young people in these churches hear this loud rock music once or twice a week. Imagine this for 20 - 50 years! By the time they reach age 50 or so they will be totally deaf! Somehow I don't believe that is what God had in mind.

Charles Wesley was preaching in Ireland when he was attacked by a mob. He escaped to a farmhouse where the farmer's wife hid him in the dairy. She offered refreshment to the mobsters, and while they were eating she let Charles Wesley out through a window outside which there was a ditch where he could hide until it was safe to move on.. It was while he was in the ditch that he wrote these words.

Let us not treat those who come to us with an unfamiliar Bible truth as that mob treated Charles Wesley. We have to keep our minds open and prayerful when the "different" preacher comes to us as Charles and John Wesley came to the churches in their day--because many a time, they were not welcomed! And what became of the mob? Once they refused the light, it may not have been given to them a second time!

@@ElizabethStaeheli Elizabeth you should familiarize yourself with Irish history. Catholics and protestants murdered each other for 500 years. What we've done to each other is heartbreaking. Ireland has a terrible history of bloodshed . All of the mainstream churches particularly church of Ireland and Catholic church need to acknowledge to God the terrible things we've done. Then we should see a breakthrough in the spread of the Gospel in Ireland. May God have mercy on us.

Hi Jen, this is simply the hymn (see the sheet music here - hymnary.org/hymn/BH2008/167), but the song leader had the men sing verses 1 and 3 (they sang all four parts), and the women verse 2 (all four parts again). Then he just combined the men on all four parts and the women on all four parts for verse 4, resulting in the eight-part last verse.)

I joined a similar Mennonite church nearly thirty years ago and I have come to appreciate this practice. Singles sit right in with the others of their own gender rather than by themselves and after the service is over it’s much easier to visit and fellowship with your own gender. Actually this practice is probably as old as the Church itself, meaning almost 2000 years.
