My youngest daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis when she was 12. It progressed so quickly (42-78 in five months) even with bracing it was too severe. One month before her 13th birthday she had spinal fusion at Shriners Hospital in Springfield MA. She gained 2.75inches in height and is now 21. She continues to feel great.

Just here to say a big THANK YOU! I’ve worked in the fitness industry, seen countless trainers, physio therapists, massage therapists etc and this video was the first time I realised there were things I could be doing to help counteract my curve. I’m now one year into schroth therapy and my entire movement pattern/injuries finally make sense and it’s amazing how much I’ve been able to correct! I wouldn’t have known about schroth if it wasn’t for you guys, thank you ❤️

I was diagnosed with scoliosis soon after my 7th birthday. I've tried ads, Braces, Apps, Therapy. Anything I think would help. I tried this out and honestly I think it's working well for me. I once was 5'3 then went to 5'1 because of this. I am now 5'3 1/2. I'm on my way to being 12 soon. Thanks very much. Helpful to me

@ B Jacob You want to strengthen some, stretch others, to allow the spine to correct itself. Muscles need to be able to move, why would you want them tight and restricted? You prevent injury with some flexibility. Also there is rotation too (with scoliosis).

Good tip. Proper breathing also needs to be incorporated into any treatment plan, as the rib cage (which is actually connected to the curved and possibly twisted spine in question) is affected by any spinal dysfunction, even in the lumbar region...

I’ve been doing the exercises recommended by you guys to help correct this for a bit over a year now and it has changed my life. I feel stronger and I am without any pain. I am so grateful for your advice. I do have a question tho. In the lumbar where my C curve is has become crunchy. There is no pain but I was wondering if this is a part of the process to straightening my spine?

That's funny, I have myofascial pain syndrome, and I sewed two tennis balls in a sock that I do the same thing with. The two tennis balls allow it to roll up and down my back, easily repositioning it as I breathe and stretch my ribs and back. Seems to be the same thing.
@cockeyedoptimista2 жыл бұрын
That’s brilliant!! It sounds similar. You’re doing both sides, it sounds like, but that’s appropriate if you’re just trying to free up the fascia and not improve scoliosis.

I found out I have scoliosis a year ago where my right shoulder is lower than my left shoulder (my spine is slightly in an S-shape to compensate for the fact that I was having a shorter right leg). I was wondering, if I use an ergonomic chair and set the right armrest higher than my left one, would that be a good idea to slowly fix my uneven shoulders issue?

One’s instincts are often correct, Silvah. Be careful, listen to your body- and you can always consult an expert! (Just some amateur advice; I have mild spine problems myself.)

No. You need to carefully work muscles on each side evenly, theres yoga for scoliosis but be very careful. Unilateral excersises. And finally, you can place a towel below armpit on side where spine is curving to and lay on that side.

Honestly, I’m just kind of flabbergasted - I have no clue what this little video is trying to tell me. I have a mild case of scoliosis and actually see a PT for osteoarthritis exercises and stretches. The scoliosis issue kind of runs through it all as well but my PT seems to downplay that all the time. May be that’s the most helpful thing I heard on this video clip: that’s it’s actually a “specialty” for PT’s. So May be it’s not my PT’s specialty. Anyway - I walk away from a video like this wondering what my takeaway should be. Not helpful imo.
