See photos of the Scoop cast vs. the real people behind the true story of Newsnight's Prince Andrew interview, including Gillian Anderson as BBC journalist Emily Maitlis and Rufus Sewell as Prince Andrew. Netflix's Scoop movie tells the real story of the BBC Newsnight team's efforts to secure their infamous 2019 interview with Prince Andrew, Duke of York. BBC Newsnight producer Sam McAlister, portrayed by Billie Piper, spent months working to land the royal interview, which was conducted by Emily Maitlis. Like in the Scoop 2024 film, Maitlis pressed the prince on his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, in addition to accusations made against him. The prince's disastrous responses led to a fall from grace and a withdrawal from public life.
This video features Netflix's Scoop characters next to their real-life counterparts, including Gillian Anderson as Emily Maitlis, Rufus Sewell as Prince Andrew, Charity Wakefield as Princess Beatrice, Keeley Hawes as Amanda Thirsk, Alex Waldmann as Jason Stein, Billie Piper as Sam McAlister, Amanda Redman as Netta McAlister, Connor Swindells as Jae Donnelly, Romola Garai as Esme Wren, Richard Goulding as Stewart Maclean, and Colin Wells as Jeffrey Epstein.
