Scooter Battery BMS problems activating & staying on

The first 8 minutes is testing the capacity on three of the batteries.
At 8:00 I first start identifying problems with the BMS. It goes into hibernation and I have trouble getting it out. After a while of trying different things it begins to work. Then I go on to show you the trouble with 2 more packs. It is very frustrating to not understand why they either go into hibernation or will not come out. Yes I tried these setups with the Jehu dongle too. Both dongles are working as designed.

also when using 3 volt signals, alligator clips suck. .1 of a voltage drop in a 3 volt environment is huge.

Jag35 is sold out of those batteries is there any other sources I can get some at a good price?

hey Sid Jones, ive been watching your videos, nice work! and i have the exact same issue, got the same battery except im using the dongle from JAG35, this thing worked fine for my e-bike but after a week or so the battery shuts down after a few seconds, i tried your method with the jumper wire/charger and still nothing, battery dies when i apply the throttle, i emailed JAG35 for a replacement dongle, hopefully they honor their 30 day policy, a bad dongle, that's my only guess here, unless the BMS is permanently shut or something? might be better off getting a battery of similar power from aliexpress ?

That's the crazy thing about these batteries Ideas Plus. Sometimes the dongles work fine and other times they don't. I also have a battery that won't do anything and it appears the BMS is just messed up. The battery is turned on showing 40 volts but it won't run past 5 seconds like yours. I would sure try for a replacement and see if it helps. Good luck!

@@sidjones-randomstuff2058 Sad but also relieved to see that others are having the same problems I'm having. I tried a Faustian Bargain board and went off after 5 seconds. Had an esp8266 and arduino uno and created the sketches but same result. Guessing it is a faulty bms but bummed as you are

Hello Siri, I guess I miss this video I don’t know if yku recall me telling you I got 8 of those 36v power pack to make that 3.5kw setup he sell on his site but every battery I got where so dead I couldn’t even charge with a normal charger I had to buy a special one that cost alsmot 300$ and I had to charge one battery at a time just to wake the BMS on them ! Member the ones I got they came without the housing so you might what to take them out of the housing and see what happens?

It sure looks like the bms isn’t active, they will run up to 1a without the activation code and then shut down within 6 seconds of exceeding the 1A. It could be a bad signal wire. When the activator sends the code, the bms will respond on the tx line, if you had an arduino you could monitor for the return signal and verify the battery is activated.

I agree Hoddem. It acts just like the bms activator is not working... Although I tried it with 2 that I know are working. I also tried it with the one I bought from Jehu off camera. The other odd thing is during my air conditioning test and my light bulb test with the four batteries, this did work some of the time because it bled down from 41 volts down to 38. So that leads me to believe that this issue is intermittent and that the battery is coming on and working part of the time. Mike makes a good point as far as the in rush of power needed at the capacitor end and this might be shutting off the BMS's too. I think my next step might be try to get a resistor and charge up that inverter prior to hooking it up and seeing if that makes any difference. Thank goodness for Amazon huh. Lol

@@sidjones-randomstuff2058 Just my thoughts, I'm no expert but I have played around with these packs a bit. The way the BMS works when not activated is you will see voltage on the discharge connector and can pull up to 1A. That's why you can turn on your inverter without turning the bulbs on and it stays on. As soon as you turn on the bulbs your load exceeds the 1A and you get about 6 seconds of operation before the BMS shuts down. Now after the BMS goes into shutdown, no matter what you do it will not come back on for 60 seconds so all the time you are plugging and unplugging stuff its not doing anything until the 60 seconds has passed. I'm positive that if you repeat the test and after you turn the light bulbs on the BMS will trip, don't touch anything and after 60 seconds the system will come back on for a few seconds again. I still think you have a bad RX line, and the activator signal isn't getting to the BMS. The only way to verify the BMS is activated aside from load testing is to read the confirmation code sent out by the BMS after the activation code is received. Its not hard if you have an arduino and a computer, otherwise you have to resort to load testing in 1 minute increments. Tripple check activator wiring again, but my guess is you have a broken wire in the cable or even inside the pack. let me know if I can help in any way

@@hoddem Setup a d1 mini to send the code through tx and an arduino to receive and print incoming. I'm not getting anything. Any thoughts? I was hoping to use the dongle but guess next step is to check wires all the way to the bms.

Verified sketches by sending d1 mini to arduino and it prints correctly.

Thanks. I am going to try antispark XT90 connectors to pre load the capacitors in the inverter.
