Scope parallax - what is it and how does it affect point of aim and point of impact

Understanding scope parallax is critical but often misunderstood. I try to de-mystify the issue with some simple explanations and suggestions on how to properly adjust it.

So the expensive scopes with rangefinding and ballistics compensation also have parallax-error? The Burris Eliminator 6 looks interesting but has (to my knowledge) no adjustment for parallax, so if I shoot at both 100 yards and 600 yards it doesn't get it right? Or does it?

@@johanneslaxell6641 I’m not familiar with that scope so I just looked it up. Page 9 of the user manual shows that it does have a parallax adjustment. But yes… if you get a laser assisted range and solution, you’re still going to miss if you have parallax error that is bigger than your target.

Is there a difference between first and second focal plane scopes? If not a difference does one have more parallax shift than the other?

@@texrifleman it’s more common to have an adjustable parallax on a first focal plane scope but there are a number of adjustable parallax scopes that are second focal plane. The error happens in either but if one is less dramatic than the other, I’m not certain. My hunch is that it doesn’t matter but I have not tested that.
