Warp speed through audio issues - 7:51 - 9:45 and 18:02 - 22:24
Prepare for a jaw-dropping journey as Jet Ski Jim encounters a neighbor's surprising offer - a free 1991 Tandem Sport TS 650 Kawasaki! They say one person's trash is another's treasure, and this story proves it.
Join us as Jet Ski Jim meticulously disassembles and preserves this vintage beauty, breathing new life into what others might have discarded. However, we have a confession to make: this video takes us back to the days of silent movies. Unfortunately, the tear-down audio turned out to be a technical challenge beyond our control, and in our quest to fix it, we actually made it worse. So, we decided silence was our best bet.
We're rolling the dice here, hoping that true jet ski enthusiasts will still find value in witnessing the lightning-speed tear down process, while most of the preservation audio remains intact. If this silence is unbearable for you, don't worry - a full-sound 650 stand-up engine video is on the horizon!
In the meantime, please let us know in the comments whether you prefer videos without sound or not. Our producer and editor had a friendly disagreement, and we'd love to know who you think deserves the 'I told you so' moment. Stay tuned for more thrilling jet ski adventures! 🌊🔧🏄‍♂️ #JetSkiJim #JetSkiPreservation #SilentMovieAdventure
Happy skiing this week…

Huh! I just stumbled across this video. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. :-) I bought a TS650 new in Australia in 1991. It was my first PWC I ever bought with my own pay check as a late teenager. I took it all over the Australian east coast for many years and used it to fish tuna with a custom pole mount I had clamped to the handle bars. That familiar burble brought a tear to my eye. Thanks once again.

Great video, too bad about the audio issues. Could I ask you opinion on our 2003 Yamaha XLT1200 and 2002 Sea Doo GTX 4-TEC? Are there things to look out for? We have put wave-eater clips on and a d plate on the Yamaha. For the Sea Doo it has a 150 plus hours and it needed a tps and an ignition coil for one cylinder.

I can’t believe how clean the inside of the carb is. I don’t think the premix fuel is “thicker” it’s more about the fuel having less btu by volume because of the added oil. In other words the fuel is diluted with oil, oil has a lower btu than gasoline, and that’s the reason for the carb adjustment being needed. Have you really seen an oil pump fail? I have not. They are very simple inside. Just a shaft with holes in it that spins. They are made by mikuni.

Hey Jim! I recently inherited a fully stock 1989 ts650 and took it on it’s first test ride today since 1999. I immediately saw excess oil coming out of the exhaust.. so I’m going to do an oil injector delete. You said the jet should be increased by 3 sizes, but I can’t figure out what size comes stock. So do you know what jet size I should be putting in the 28mm carb in Utah after the delete? Thanks for these videos btw! They’ve already taught me a bunch about these things!
@jetskijim007
@jetskijim007 3 ай бұрын
Nice! so 40 to 45 is stock on those 28mm carbs. I am running a 55 on the 28mm on the 650sx, and I think it would idle better with a 60 in it, so I would start there. These are low speed jets.... :-)

Wow thank you so much!! I’m pretty new to dealing with carbs, so this helps me a bunch with the process. I appreciate it a bunch! @@jetskijim007 when adjusting the carb for the first time, do I turn the L screw out till I get crisp throttle response or how do I know it’s right? Because I had to turn mine out 3 1/2 turns to get Crisp throttle response, any less and it will hesitate when i try to take off!. Also what is the main cause of surging during idle? Could a weak pop-off spring or wrong size jet cause that?
@jetskijim007
@jetskijim007 Ай бұрын
If you have to turn 3 1/2 turns out on the bottom screw then you need a bigger pilot (or low speed) jet. What size are you running? that will also cause surging issue.

Good content. It makes me worried about my 98 yamaha 760 that I removed the oil injection. Should it need a larger jet?
@jetskijim007
@jetskijim007 11 ай бұрын
Yamaha's have different engine Geometry. They are not as sensitive to that. If it runs ok, I would leave it. If it hesitates off idle, then yes, either bigger pilot jet or we usually lower the popoff pressure on Yamaha's.
