I’m waiting for my AT960 to come in from Revzilla, it’s coming tomorrow! Great price point for a modular ADV helmet with drop-down shades. The peak won’t bother me because it’ll be used mainly for trail riding and multi-day dual sport trips on my Husky.

I’d love to see more adventure modular helmets like this. I love the convenience and comfort of a modular, plus the huge eye port you get with adv style helmets. It’s as non-claustrophobic as it gets for a full face helmet. Also, the quality is excellent for the price. I have a shoei neotec 2 as my main helmet, and I have no issues with the quality of the Scorpion in comparison.

I bought one of the first Hi-Viz/Black Topographic ones sold. I love it but have 2 complaints: 1) The visor flutters at speed when on my V-Strom {but not on my naked SV650 🤔). This is bad enough to blur my vision at certain speeds. The 'Strom is well known for buffeting helmets though, so that probably has a lot to do with it. And 2) The visor screws are constantly getting loose, again, probably because the bike buffets helmets. This is so bad that I have almost lost them a couple of times. I did learn to keep a check on things and even bought extra screws to go in the tank bag, but this could have been done better. The AT 960 It is still my favorite helmet of the last 50 years though. It is the quietest helmet I've owned to date, though I do admit I haven't owned many "high end" ones.

That’s good information. I just got a vstrom and ordered this helmet, waiting for it to show up. I have noticed buffeting with my windshield curious how it’ll go. Excited though

@@stevenflaton2693 My 'Strom is a Gen 2 Adventure model. It has a larger windshield than standard models, which apparently makes it worse. I just leave the visor at home when I ride it.

Yes, screws are 2 for 15 bucks on RevZilla at the moment. They do vibrate loose, so I’ve trained myself to tighten them down every time I pick up the helmet. It is an issue Scorpion knows about, and with a phone call they will warranty-replace them along with the little face plates. One did pop out for me while on a trip to California this summer. I also carry an extra one. I agree with you, best helmet ever, I got the white Kryptek version, it’s perfect and almost every way except for the screws and the flimsy peak. Were you able to fit a com system speaker in the shallow speaker cut-outs? I bought the Cardo Spirit, but it looks like they won’t fit in there…

The video is well done, as always. Spurge is trying his best to make this sound like an upgrade. That said, this new Scorpion has nothing to recommend it over the previous model. Heavier, plus now there is no place for the comm system I already have. But hey, you can lock the chin bar up... Bring back the AT950...
@903lew
@903lew Жыл бұрын
ECE 22.06 is a big upgrade in my book, P/J-certification also. Just mount the cardo on the clamp mount over the access port or with a sticky mount above it, you’ll be fine.

Yes I agree, it is an upgrade as I have both models, I ordered mine from chrome burner last year and it fits a lot better than the previous model, and looks like a much higher quality build... 4 oz is about the weight of a couple table spoons of sugar for crying out loud so you're not going to notice it

@@dalecolegrove6652 I'm on a budget, so I have the *Cardo Spirit HD* , which is a great little unit. I'm wondering if you ever found a way to mount your own Cardo on this helmet. Such a shame that they designed the speaker cups and the left side of the helmet to make people buy their proprietary comm system.

I have and love this helmet but the issue I have is that I can't ride with the peak as you get to about 50kph and it starts to vibrate back and forth. If you look up while riding you can see it moving. At 80+kph it vibrates so hard my vision starts to go blurry. Remove the peak and it's a magic helmet. After getting the helmet and having the issues I started looking online and found that it's a super common issue. Apparently they reduced the weight(Rigidity) of the peak as making it meet the new ECE22.06 standard made the helmet so much heavier than the 22.05 version. I've been looking online but I can't find an after market replacement.

@@leuk78 where I am, next to Forest Service roads, I am planning to use it with a CB500X which I'm picking up next month. So I'll be on dirt maybe 20 or 30% of the time after coming off tarmac. There's two things that stopping me from picking up this helmet. One is your issue, the hassle of putting the peak back on on and off with a quarter and the time it takes and losing the screws. But my bigger issue is attaching Cardo comms--apparently it's really difficult as Scorpion tries to lock you in to their proprietary crappy system. Do you have a Cardo or Sena on your helmet? What I'd like to do is use Velcro tape and put it right over the existing proprietary port. but the speaker holes are apparently very shallow as well. It's frustrating because this otherwise seems like a perfect inexpensive modular ADV helmet, and there's not many of those. Hope this makes sense.

Really weird that some of the features/changes go back to what are on my 930 for example the lockable chinstrap the lower drop down visor slider, and the top vent slider which I may add on my 930 I’m not the biggest fan of because now it vibrates a little bit

Mine does not vibrate at all, fwiw. Call Scorpion, let them know, they may be able to help you somehow. They did send me those damn screws which vibrate out. RevZilla sells them for 15 bucks. The AT950 was a fantastic helmet EXCEPT the chin bar was much too slim in the closed position for the "American" build so it became uncomfortable rather quickly. Hope the new version is better!

Perhaps a stupid question. Does the peak actually provide a decent amount of eye shade if used for touring? I always wish I had something like that on my conventional modular. Thanks for the video.
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 5 ай бұрын
Yeah it does, at least as well as it can without starting to hinder seeing the road / surroundings. Using them for touring is a bit of a trade off, because all peaks aren't the best aero-additions to a helmet at highway speeds. But with that reduction in aero, you gain some protection from the sun. It's all a bit of give and take.

Yeah, peak is not for high speeds or touring. It’s flimsy and rattles. Otherwise, great helmet.

Can it be locked in the down position? My main concern with these helmets is the risk of the helmet "opening up" during an accident.
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 6 ай бұрын
No brands really add an active lock on when the modular is closed. However, having said that - the mechanism that latches it closed is a pin-style system that is designed to prevent it from opening up. However, the only sure fire way to avoid that as an issue during a crash is to simple go with a full-face helmet option.
