NO hard rock band really sounded this clear like off a studio album, except maybe RUSH. VH and ACDC were pretty good in 78, but a lot more raw and not as tight like scorps and Rush....There were others of of course but I member Rush and scorps stood out a little more for professionalism and solid song writing, go watch some late 70s Zep scorps are actually a tighter live act in this late 70 s era, but I chalk a lot of it up to Page taking on too much of the live lead guitar work without backup. His studio work was multi layered and impractical in a live setting.

I was 13 when this came out... was right about 18 when Black Out came out and I found out just who the Scorpions were and bought this and every album I could get my hands on from them. Their best work was everything from Fly to the Rainbow to Love at First Sting. The Scorpions of the 70s was so different from the Scorpions of the 80s that it's almost hard to imagine it's the same band except for some very distinctive elements of their style like Klaus's voice and Rudy's amazing composing abilities. Also, although I'm a massive fan of Uli and Michael, I still think Matthias is a brilliant player. He was a necessary ingredient for Scorpions to transition from the 70s to the 80s, because Matthias was ready for it stylistically. He understood what made Scorpions tick and he brought in stylistic element from a post Eddie Van Halen era of guitar playing and made it work for Scorpions. It never felt shoehorned it but blended perfectly with their style. They are a uniquely remarkable band that has had an extraordinary career. And I love taking these trips back to the early days. Love this music.

I've seen the Scorpions quite a few times, from last tour all the way back to love at first sting; but I would trade it all to be able to see them at this time. the first few records with Uli are timeless, with In trance being the best by far. Just listened to it last night. so did my neighbors.
