Scotland North Coast 500 DAY 2 - John O'Groats, Smoo Cave & MORE

In this 5 part series I'll be taking in the breathtaking sights and amazing scenery of the NC500, a 516 mile scenic route around the North Coast of Scotland. Across 5 days I'll be driving the full route, taking in dramatic landscapes, visiting stunning buildings and capturing spectacular views!
In day two of this incredible adventure I start off in John O'Groats and take a look around this famous landmark. Following this I pass by the Castle Of Mey and head to Dunnet Head, the most Northerly point of Mainland Britain and take in the spectacular views! After stopping at both Dunnet Beach and also the small village of Bettyhill, I take a walk up to the stunning Castle Varich. Finally I explore Smoo Cave and make my way to Durness and relax on the gorgeous beach!

Me and wifey had a holiday to Croatia cancelled last year. Instead we did the NC500. It was unbelievable! It’s mad how much we managed to miss....but also what you missed! Saying that, you could quite easily spend a few weeks up there taking it all in. Glad you enjoyed and we can’t wait to return!

Oh I love it when you take us to Scotland. The countryside is absolutely gorgeous. Never knew much about Scotland until I started watching Outlander on star's 😆 you're so lucky the U.K alone you can go to different countries very quickly! As you know not that way in U.S. thanks so much for sharing! And as always safe and happy travels💗 p.s. I also watch a lot of van/ ambulance conversions. School Bus/ Short bus conversions are my favorite. Because they're equipped with a full-size bathroom not a wet bath. 😆 w/d everything that you need at home .they do a lot of good Drone footage the countryside's mostly in the u.s. I suppose.. I tire of a place so quickly I usually live in the area 3 to 4 years and then I move to another state only warm ones. 😆 I would love to be able to live that lifestyle as long as it's has ALL the conveniences of home. And can get all that with a short School Bus.lol Yours is hands-down my favorite Travel Channel! My plan was always to go to the UK take the euro train stay a couple nights in each country and just be a tourist. Unfortunately plans change due to health. So you're the next best thing!!! Shoot sorry this comment so dang long😳

I love it about the castle at your 2nd stop yeah it's not a huge building lmao it looks like a pretty huge castle to me. Of course we're such a young country we don't have any castles in the US that's what I love about your neck of the woods. So much old history. All the gorgeous castles. I do hope you come back and give us a tour. Hey maybe you could do a tour of castles sometime on your channel you have so many over there! Hey Shawn you think these are spectacular views, If you ever get to go to Australia oh my daaaaays me and my dad got up at 5am for our epic busy travelling adventurous day of an amazing experience of a lifetime that we're constantly reminiscing our epic family down under vacation. Blimeeeey, Wowsers Shawn the vast views travelling from Sunshine Coast over to Frasier Island along the way you'll discover different types of sheer joyful beautiful scenery along different terrain one of the long roads you'll be passing camels, kangaroos wallabies seeing various wildlife through the sandy woodlands, from there the best is yet to be discovered by incredibly awesome beaches followed by ferry crossing, we saw tiger sharks, small dolphins, humpback whales in the distance, once on Frasier Island you travel through the tropical wilderness to arrive at the next beach then travelling through more wilderness then to Mackenzie Lake, after that straight to the tropical jungle sands then same scenery repeated on the way back to mainland Australia. Australia is one of my top 3 ultimate favourite countries consisting of triple AAA:s lol, I've never been to America or Africa which was our ambition to go to one of those unfortunately covid19 jeopardised our travels, more positively Sunshine oast is by far the most awesome destination of conservation and adventures combined. Sorry for these humongous messages as I basically wanted to share my experiences with you as we share and have similar adventurous interests in common.

No, not logged. There were never many trees due to the environment. Lots of the far north is covered with globally important peat bogs which dry out when trees are planted.
