Scotland's justice system has experienced unprecedented demand over the last five years, with the number of outstanding cases soaring to more than 40,000 at its peak.
Significant resources have been funnelled into our courts to alleviate the backlogs, but has it been enough?
Thousands of cases are still outstanding, defence lawyers are abandoning the system of legal aid in their droves and there's been a sustained and significant increase in the level of serious criminal cases going through the courts.
