Scotland Van Life: A Rocky Start and Lessons Learned

Hurricane Helene destroyed a big part of my hometown and Eastern North Carolina. She also made her name known in Florida and her path north. People in North Carolina have no homes. They are living in tents and campers. Campers donated by hundreds of people. In my hometown the water was to the top of the hospital roof. Patients evacuated from the roof. We had vacation scheduled for Oct 9 through Nov 9. We experienced hurricane Rafeaile down near Cuba on a cruise ship. Returning to winter from the Caribbean was rough. It is currently 15 here in Eastern Tennessee. As always, be safe.

Poor girls! That company not having a full bottle of propane and only one set of sheets for 2 beds. Wow. Plus having luggage lost for a day. Snow... you are a firecracker when you vent out your frustration. Love it. Scotland should be epic after that fiasco.

Watched you guys today with a bit of bittersweet in my heart. Ever since my mom passed away in April, and I inherited her cat Target, I have watched your two videos a week in the recliner with her cat climbing up on me and stretching from my shoulder to my hip like a sash and sometimes when he got too warm he would get in my lap instead. I had to bury him yesterday. It was kind of hard to sit down in that recliner then turn you guys on and him not be here. But seeing little G Money really made it better. I lost my cat Ollie in August but I still have my Ella, a long haired calico - she's not a snuggler though. So love the bejesus out of Vana and G Money, you never know when it's going to end. 🐈

Yeah 2024 is kind of sucked between losing mom my cat and now her cat but you guys have kept me going over the last 2 years taking care of her​, And then little Target was my snuggle buddy. Now I just have to watch y'all by myself! Thanks for all you do. Even no idea how positively you have impacted some people's lives, just by chronicling yours! Oh my goodness! That's awful about Indie Campers - we certainly won't be using them ourselves, ever (if we didn't have our van), nor recommending them to anyone. That's just dreadful. It should be automatic to assume that they need to use the kitchen. That's them getting free propane all the time, because if they make the renters fill the bottle, they'll never use it all in a week or so and Indie Campers profit from that. Nice to see Ashley again - so glad their bags turned up!

My husband and I (both in our 70s - from Alabama) spent 4 weeks, April 2024, touring Scotland in a small RV we rented from Motor Home Escapes, (a family owned business) just outside of Edinburgh. They were FANTASTIC!!! We had NEVER driven an RV before or camped and Michelle and Richard were extremely helpful throughout the entire process! We had never met them before - only talked with them via email & phone before arrival…. and have no affiliation with them…we found them through google searches, research & process of elimation.😊

We used Indie camper out of Salt Lake City and over all - their customer service was a shit show. We will not rent from them again. The pillows were so pathetic and yes just one sheet for two beds.

I love your campervan. I think it is the best layout I have ever seen for 2 people and I would order one just like it if I could. I also love your favorite color Snow, it’s always such a calming, clean look. The trouble with the rental van was absolutely unnecessary and unacceptable . To have a company that poorly run is disgusting. They deserve all the bad press they get! Hopefully the rest of your days have been delightful. When our daughter and family were there in Scotland, they saw a restaurant called the “slug and lettuce”. Oh yummm!! We all know the aftermath of hurricane Helene which was horrific! Will be anxious to learn about your family. Glad you had a Great fairy ride to Scotland but very sorry for the horrible inconveniences that your friends endured. That van rental company will never know what a horrible mistake they have done because of the exposure they are going to get from your channel. But they deserve the bad exposure. Will be watching to see if things smooth out and praying that your family is well.❤

I know there's a "lead time" on your videos ... but I LOVE National Trust Properties and one of the most enchanting "museums" is "The Tenament House Museum" in Glasgow. An authentic time capsule of life in early 20th-century Glasgow, Miss Agnes Toward, a shorthand typist, made this house her home from 1911 until 1965. It's a time capsule frozen in time ... she didn't get rid of things or change things and it's much as it was when she started living there with her mother in 1911. Well worth a visit!!! All over the UK there are similar National Trust Properties to visit .... I'm so jealous .... I can't wait to go back.

They're saying it as Hel-lean (Helene) not Helen. And she wiped out my entire ten acres of old growth forest up here in the NC highlands. We took the brunt of her anger and the death toll is much higher than reported because they don't count unidentified victims. It's a mess up here. Wish I could escape to Scotland.

Its too bad you didnt get to go to the titanic museum or go on a black top tour in belfast. If you ever get back there, there are many interesting things to see in belfast. ??? What missing people??? FEMA doesn’t have a magic wand to get to every single person affected by a natural disaster immediately. Sometimes it takes days or weeks. How do you get to someone when roads no longer exist or are blocked by downed power lines? They do the best they can with the funding they get. A lot of people are grateful FEMA helped after a disaster! Surely better than paper towels.

Traveling Robert got a clunker also in Spain. Can't remember the name. Delta-Virgin arrived in Manchester England sans my wife and daughter's luggage. Not lost though. Charlotte departed 30 lightning delay and they barely made their Atlanta connection. Luggage didn't make it. Delta Virgin sent it by courier. Arrived in two deposits. 1 day and 3 days.

After using it for such a long time (if you haven’t scraped it), would you tell us more about it? Is it something very helpful, or it is actually too much a bother of keep cleaning and changing the filters? Or if it is just something for fun, not very helpful? Love to know more? We dump it after a "shower night"... So, it just gets used for two showers. If we need to fill it for another shower before we need water in our tanks, we can refill the shower tank from our garage water tank.
