My abusive ex-husband and his brother begged their parents to get a divorce, because the violence from dad towards mom was so bad. I believe he would not be the damaged individual he is today, if his mother had had the self-respect to leave (she never did). Malachi 2:16 was mistranslated in all but 3 modern translations and the Septuagint (predates the Masoretic text). It's supposed to say “The man who hates and divorces his wife,” says the Lord, the God of Israel, “does violence to the one he should protect,” says the Lord Almighty. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful.' The church needs to lose the unbiblical 'God hates divorce' mantra, because it heaps demonic shame on those who divorced their unrepentant spouse. Sometimes divorce sets you free from your spouse and their demons and protects the children. God divorced the northern kingdom of Israel for her apostasy. It also does not list divorce in Proverbs 6:16-19 among the 7 things God hates (none of which He would do Himself)
