Scott Murray scuffle with Lawrence Dallaglio

After getting outjumped at a lineout by Scotland lock Scott Murray (who is wrongly penalised by referee David McHugh for pulling down at the lineout), England flanker Lawrence Dallaglio gets frustrated and throws a punch and then engages in a small scuffle during the 5 Nations match at Twickenham in February 1999.

Dallaglio was the absolute example of play hard but fair. I watched him at Wasps before he got capped and throughout his England career. I never saw him start anything. He finished quite a few though.

My goodness, how useless is Barnes. Murray jumped across Dallaglio, Murry pulled Dallaglio down and got a thick ear for his trouble. Murray was able to get a couple in himself, no claret, and nothing more than that really. I think (based on the rules at the time) the ref got it spot on, as it was dangerous (pulling LD down while in the air) but nothing more needed as they both expressed their views. I miss the good old days, a bit of 'argy-bargy' then back at it, followed by lots of beer after the game.

What an absolutely stupid assessment of events. Murray rises after Dallaglio who instead of trying to catch the ball puts his inside hand on Murray'shead. That illegal act stalls his lift and is a penalty. Murray then continues upwards and is in front of Dallaglio. Murray taps the ball and Dallaglio reacts by striking him to the head. The only thing Murray does wrong is failing to catch the serial offender with his fist.

@@ChrisSmith-fk8je Dallaglio was above him when Murray jumped, debatable whether one or the other is offside coming through although to me it looks like Dallaglio, his arm came down on Murray's head on the way down, Murray's hand grabs Dallaglio's arm and pulls it away from where the ball was going, Dallaglio punches Murray, they go down in a scuffle, the ref favours the more senior player and gives them "a talking to" for the scuffle, play on. That's about how every lineout was in the 90's.

What a load of crap by the commentators. Look at the way Dallaglio IS pulled down. Look how his body lurches to the Scottish side as a result of being pulled down. You commentators should know the game of rugby. I do, and I can clearly see Dallaglio being pulled down. Why can't you??? So biased. Just tell the truth! I know what would have been said if it had been a white jersey pulling down at the line out. You commentators should watch New Zealand rugby and listen to the New Zealand commentators. So good and impartial. Their knowledge is par excellence and they make it a real pleasure to watch the game with their professionalism. YES, THEY MAKE IT A REAL PLEASURE TO WATCH THE GAME. THEY ENHANCE THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE FOR THE VIEWER. Technically correct and unbiased. Just as we all like to watch a Northern Hemisphere match officiated by Nigel Owen, we also like to watch a match with an accompanying commentary from either Jonathon Davies or Austin Healy. The rest of you are not good enough and you are being shown to be less than competent by your above mentioned peers. It is about time you started to get it right and make it a more pleasurable experience for everyone and the game.
