"In July 2018, the Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier and France Musique set themselves the challenge of performing and recording all 555 sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti in the Occitania Region."
"En juillet 2018, le Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier et France Musique lancent un pari un peu fou : interpréter et enregistrer les 555 sonates de Domenico Scarlatti."
These sonatas will be played in concerts in the Occitania Region by 30 harpsichordists.
Harpsichordists: Jean-Marc Aymes, Enrico Baiano, Olivier Baumont, Carole Cerasi, Violaine Cochard, Francesco Corti, Bertrand Cuiller, Arnaud de Pasquale, Aurélien Delage, Mathieu Dupouy, Paola Erdas, Cristiano Gaudio, Maude Gratton, François Guerrier, Luca Guglielmi, Kazuya Gungi, Frédérick Haas, Jean-Luc Ho, Béatrice Martin, Lars-Ulrik Mortensen, Giulia Nuti, Olga Pashchenko, Thomas Ragossnig, Mario Raskin, Jean Rondeau, Mayako Sone, Miklos Spanyi, Justin Taylor, Kenneth Weiss et Paolo Zanzu.
For those who can't go to the concerts, France Musique will later on publish 3 sonatas a day on their KZbin channel so feel free to suscribe if interested.

It's an appealing pastiche, constructed around motives from a dozen or so original sonatas. The „open” second half of this poisson d'avril - at 2:13 - is based on one of Scarlatti's Joplinesque stretches, the memorable beginning of the second half of K248 in Bb. Unfortunately, SR didn't jazz that section up a bit - which, if you DO a pastiche in the first place, the music can easily bear, like the Welsh pianist Alec Templeton did in his „Bach goes to Town”. - Another (authentic) Scarlatti-„rag” occurs in K57, closing of first (and second) half, mm. 85 ff.

This sounds a LOT like Scarlatti's sonatas. Makes sense since it comes from Scott Ross himself, the one who recorded all of Scarlatti's sonatas in the Kirkpatrick catalogue.

I am going to compose a few sonates in Scarlatti's style, too after done wide research. So I know how similar this sonata by Scott Ross is to the sonates of Scarlatti and I hope my sonates will be as good as his :)

Si son 555, pero S. Ross compuso una al estilo de Scarlatti que fue emitida por Radio France como otra más, una pequeña broma... del ahí el nombre: April Fool Day's Sonata (Sonata del día de los inocentes)...
