As a tailor, may I suggest making an opening for a welt pocket on the inside to put the padding. The cut will rip over time. Also, if you probably should have used 'Fray Stop.' It would stop the cut from getting bigger

Hi. You gave me a great idea. I have padded undies but the underwear part is annoying. It's like girdle material and too hot here in RI. So I made your sample, but I had the pads already !! So I sewed those in. They're perfect !!

A dance belt will work just as well, but either way you've got to cover up

Great tutorial! One thing I would add is that you usually want to hem things with the right side up because the needle thread side stays neater than the bobbin thread side especially on a zig zag stitch. The appearance of underwear don't really matter but something to be cognizant of!

Great video! Another beginner tip , for the guys who do not sew, is to wear an athletic supporter (jock strap) with a cup.

You could also wear whats known as a dance belt. Male ballet dancers wear them under tights to give that smooth effect.

Oh I know, I took ballet for awhile, and got used to it. They do make dance belts that have a full back, they are whats known as "full seated", and will look very similar to the shape made in the video. =)

Ryan M lycra dance belts allow for a smooth, masculine bulge, once you get use to it you will feel no discomfort, also allows for any "wanted/ unwanted" movement, nothing to be ashamed of

I just wear compression shorts with the groin guard that comes with. You can get them on amazon and ebay for dirt cheap. Though I might still make this in pleather for my Batman cosplay.

Would you recommend this method over a dance belt. I use a dance belt when cosplaying as spidey and while it does get rid of it showing, I don’t want a bulge for the exact reasons you stated. Would your method flatten the area under a spandex suit thanks again!

You can buy underwear for exactly this purpose, it would take all of five minutes online...

Some people actually prefer making their own plus it can be cheaper. Not to mention quicker if time is a factor. Sure, it takes 5 min to order it, but usually takes 2-3 days at least to get to you. Where as this can be made in an hour or so and if you have a last minute appearance or event, making is better than ordering. Also, as the man said, this pattern can be used for actual costume trunks as well.

I’m on the fence on this one…to flatten a males NORMAL anatomy seems to be emasculating him, however I do understand that women can wear a Cat Woman cat suit with either cut outs, tight fitting around their vaginas, Wonder Woman sideboob, or boobspillage in their costumes…, etc..and noone5ginks anything of it.
