It is May 30, 2021. People are returning to church. I look forward to leading hymns at the Organ well suited to praise GOD: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit on this, Trinity Sunday. May you each one and all have a spirit-filled time of worship and making time during this holiday weekend to seeing friends & loved ones

i want us to take a second and appreciate the shear amount of mental aptitude sharpness and accuracy this has to take his brain is operating at full efficiency and the duration of this one piece yet alone this among others in an entire concert, not to mention the scope of what this man can play , and to each piece he gives 100 percent accuracy and expression is flawless. this is simply amazing and i do not say this lightly but Johnathan Scott is the absolute finest that this world has to offer he is the greatest organist of our time.

It's not just the organ, the natural reverb from the old church and it's high stone walls is an essential part of the experience to give the parishioners the feeling of being in heaven. Nowadays we have digital reverb, but in the old days the only way to get this beautiful sound was to build these huge cathedrals.
@EduardQualls4 жыл бұрын
OK. This is perhaps the best performance of this piece I've ever had the privilege to hear. The sensitive rubato in the prelude is simply amazing, and turns what so many organists would render as sewing-machine notes into rare music. But, please, do have someone check the voicing of what seems to be the 1' principal on the great at G5. It shrieks.

I fully agree! It's like a loud, painful cry full of sorrow and despair, longing to receive an answer from the pedal division. The piece itself is full of such emotions but this very part of it just made it a lot more breathtaking.

The section at 7:55 is sublime, not just in the Bach piece, but the slight rubato added to heighten the sense of enjoyment of these few bars in this version which seem to hang in space and suspend time, despite the fugue pushing forward to its inevitable conclusion. Bach did not hang about in these later mature fugues. Great stuff, great version, wonderful English organ which is registered so well for a baroque masterpiece.

I hope when the pandemic clears you will visit Philly and play its magnificent organs, the Wanamaker organ at Macy's in Center City, The Curtis organ at Irvine Auditorium on the Penn campus, and the organ at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, the smallest of the three at 10,010 pipes.

The cameraman showed great restraint in not showing the remarkable twisted spire until the end credits; could be distracting! I would be interested to see what Jonathan Scott does with the Fantasia and Fugue BWV542, an almost "headbanging" piece which seems to me to have parallels to the orchestral transcriptions where Jonathan excels.

I like the way you add some rubato as means of expression, my teacher at school wouldn't allow it. I'm not so sure about the change of manuals with the abrupt change of dynamics, and the early use of pedal reeds in the last section. This piece always sounds like a violin piece and I prefer a more intimate and less grand approach. I played this in my recital at school and reeds were only added in the final bars.

I don't think there is a greatest organist. Since the variety of organ music is so wide, no organist can play all these different kinds of organ music in a satisfying way... Maybe Scott is the best all around organist (which is a compliment of course).

So many Virtuoso Organists play Bach works too fast and it kills the majesty and in such as a Cathedral with keen acoustics if can sound like a blur of tone however accurate it is played
