pippen is the kind of teammate who is dreamed of by any superstar everyday. He is one of the best defender in the NBA history, a good 3 point shooter and a good transition scorer. It gets me wondering all the time why he didn't win a Defensive Player of the Year title, can't deny the fact that his ability was indeed over-shadowed by MJ. I seriously do think he was a better defender than MJ, running the floor so well.
@AxeSmashDemolition10 жыл бұрын
Pippen had to contend with the golden age of defensive centers David Robinson, Olajuwon, Mourning, and Mutombo. Blocked shots were all the rage back then and that's what got the media's attention. Pippen definitely got robbed in '95 though. That year he should have been DPOY hands down. There was no other defender that impacted that end of the floor as much as he did especially with the rag tag bunch he had to carry throughout the season.
@kaysofreeto199810 жыл бұрын
with jordan getting all the attention, they wouldn't let another bull win dpoy, that would be too much concentration in chicago. Just like how they let malone win mvp, and he in his speech he thanked jordan for letting him borrow his trophy. Jordan should have been MVP 10 times.

I watched Jordan in his early years before Pippen joined the league. Jordan was a ferocious defensive beast who was all over the place with super quick hands and unmatched anticipation. He could shut down anyone who he was assigned to. When Pippen first came, he was a good defender who gradually improved by learning from the best (no.23) after getting thrashed in practice all the time. As great as Pippen was on defense, he couldn't match Jordan's quickness, anticipation, strength, and ferocity. Pippen only had the size and reach advantage.
@andytan91110 жыл бұрын

There’s no way you can prove that. So if Bulls had Hakeem Olajuwon from 1988-98, they can’t win 6 rings. Shit they might have more, Olajuwon & Jordan, were ready since rookies, Pippen needed years to develop.

Pippen was a NIGHTMARE on defense. Forget for a second how athletic and strong and quick he was. Pay attention to how he is reading not only what his man is doing but what the whole team is doing. He is playing defense like chess, blowing up whole offensive schemes, moving the opponent into dark corners, baiting them into bad decisions. Imagine staring at this dude, knowing he knows what you are gonna do and him telling you it wont happen. Terrifying. Add to that a championship pedigree and the confidence that comes from success, then combine that with the killer mentality that the whole 90s bulls had. Theres a reason dude made all defense for ten straight seasons and this video gives you a glimpse.

"The man is everywhere." That is the most defining statement of Pippen as a defensive player. When he is actually put on the opposing teams best player...it's actually a waste. He's a fantastic one on one defender as he is in every aspect...but the reason why he was so dominant in 94 and 95 was because he was and HAD TO BE EVERYWHERE those seasons. When he's allowed to roam and play off his man he created chaos like no other perimeter defensive player ever did or could.

kjuu jlil Jimmy Butler gave Lebron a ton of trouble and held him to 43% shooting in last year's playoffs. Shawn Marion kicked Bron's ass in the 2011 Finals. Kawhi Leonard in his sophomore year gave Lebron all he could handle in the 2013 Finals and Lebron was befuddled and passive for 5 games in that series. Now none of these players have Pippen's overall defensive ability and they sure as hell don't have his offensive ability to make Lebron work on the other end of the floor. jordan wouldn't have won championships without this man.. just as scottie cannot win championships without jordan... when they are not together, they lose..
@laoj038 жыл бұрын
I agree with you bro, but Pippen led the Bulls to a 55 and 27 record without Jordan in the '93-'94 season, a .671 record. Jordan never had a .500 record on a team without Pippen.
@MrAnonymous6508 жыл бұрын
for sure.. but scottie didn't had to face Magic Johnson, Larry, and the Bad Boys alone.. NBA 93-95 was very different League compared to 84-89 NBA.. but yeah, MJ didn't made the playoffs without Pippen.. They are the perfect Duo.. their skills complement each other.. they are both defensive and offensive minded Players..
@untouchablemvj8 жыл бұрын
Pippen went way farther then MJ did without him, and if it wasn't the biggest rig job in sports history, maybe 2nd because they did the Kings one the next yr was worse but that was a joke in itself... Mj was 1-9 without Pippen Facts

The Bulls and Jordan were nothing without Pippen. He gelled that team together. MJ was selfish for his own benefit. Scottie was selfish for the team.

Mj was 1-9 and repeatedly got thrashed until he got Pip.. Never won shit without Pip, although Pip should have won a title without MJ if not for the refs rigging WCF in 01... Pippen is so underrated it's criminal.. People don't even mention him, its all MJ MJ MJ... weasels know nothing, Pip guarded best teams player and frustrated and got in his head... It's amazing you can have Pippen, Rodman, Harper on your team and you only say Mj was reason for championships.. Shit is laughable.. Turn on Espn, Cnn and stop being morons.. Pippen is a top 10-15 all time player and maybe 2nd best 2 way player after Lebron.

+mikey James pip never won a ring withouth mj either so whats your point

Osama Bin Laden so he won more without mj than the other way around
@PistolKev8 жыл бұрын
mikey James huh? Is that english? Pippen never won shit when mj left.... And vice versa, soooooo your logic makes no sense because its. A team game, scottie didnt carry the bulls neither did michael, I would say dennis rodman helped them a shit ton

You know he was 10 seconds away from getting to the NBA Championship when MJ retired the first time right?

This video is epic. Beastly blocks. Great steals. Scottie Pippen was a one of a kind defensive player. It's ridiculous how easy he could make it look.
@Bombright14 жыл бұрын
so much props to pippen in being as good as he was at something that is sorely under-appreciated. Offense fills the stands, defense wins the games.
@stefanski4811 жыл бұрын
Wow so many ppl here talking about how Pippen was better than Jordan? None of you must've watched the Bulls back then. You see one video about Scottie Pippen's highlights and then none of you can remember anything that Jordan did? How quickly we forget...
@ShengWang1051011 жыл бұрын
but you can't deny that he was essential to the team. The first time after Michael left the bulls, everyone speculated that the Bulls would have at least 15 fewer wins. However, with Scottie as Team Captain. The Bulls came out wit 55 wins, only 2 fewer than before. Also, Pippen led the Bulls in scoring, assists, and blocks, and was second in the NBA in steals per game. You simply can't deny that Scotties was a excellent player back in 1994, perhaps in Michael Jordan's caliber or some what close to it
@davidhines683211 жыл бұрын
Sheng-Wen Wang The original comment in no way denied that Scottie was a great player. So your post is actually not even responsive.

You have to also take into consideration michael didn't win until pippen came to the bulls

Ah, how quickly forget that Jordan didn't win a single title without Scottie.

@StoleCoC Also forgot to mention that zones wasn't allowed back then thereby allowing guards to dominate. Zone does limit a player offensively as well.
