Great vid, From Southern Mississippi myself been to New Orleans many a time. Glad you enjoyed our Southern Cuisine. And yes the Humidity is ridiculous. I know your interest in the relationship with Americans with Scottish ancestry and Modern day Scots, and how they differ. A lot of Americans with Scottish Ancestry comes from the Highlands with those beautiful mountains. Interesting fact that you may already be aware of or have covered in the past is that the Appalachian mountain range starts in Northern Alabama, US and ends in Scotland. The actual rock itself is from the same ancient mountain range known as the Central Pangean Mountain Range. So as fate would have it due to unfortunate circumstances many Highlanders had to leave their home, but wound up settling on the same mountain range they had previously lived on. For a direct example Ben Nevis is from the exact same Mt range as the Appalachian Mountain range. If you didn’t already know this I figured it would interest you. Also my name is Sean as well( I know different spelling), but us Seans gotta stick together lol. Take care.

Shaun, you should add butter, salt, and pepper to the grits while still warm. Grits are made of large-kernel hominy corn (maize) that has been treated first with lye water to remove the husk from the individual kernels. The treated kernels are then dried and ground to a coarse meal. The meal is cooked in boiling water to make grits. It is a typically southern American dish that is not well-known in the northern states.

The circle fried thing was a catfish fillet, two of them stuck together. The tartar sauce is for that, but I like lemon juice on my catfish. Glad to see your headed to N. Carolina. The BBQ is different for each region from the coast to the mountains, as is the sauce. The best is by far the vinegar based next would be next. One of the best is the North Carolina dry cured country ham. Better than anything you get from the grocery store.

Just to demonstrate the regional diversity here in the US. I'm a Californian and have never tried Grits and absolutely hate oysters. They are definitely not a thing out here in San Diego. Nor is bread pudding. I love and appreciate the culinary traditions of the south but things are different wherever you go in this great country. BBQ and Tex Mex in Texas, Cajun and Creole in Louisiana, meat and potatoes in middle America and the coasts just do their own things. Contributions from dozens of other countries and cultures. Never dull, that's for sure!! Always love your enthusiasm Shaun.👍👍👍❤❤❤

As a Texan I hate to say that a Californian is correct, but you are right. Theres all kinds of regional culinary traditions, and you should try them all.

@@randyhill1492 and Texas Hill Country is definitely the best BBQ in the world regardless of what anybody else says :)

Grits are an acquired taste but popular in the South. Often served at breakfast but can be used as a main dish. As a treat, I make them and add butter and honey, but a lot of people like them with cheese or red-eye gravy. They are made from the dried kernel of corn.

Shaun, my grandma made the best bread pudding ever. That was one of my favorites made by my grandma. She put raisins in hers.
