If you were on the patio of the Court of Two Sisters and looked to the west, you would see a wrought iron gate that gives onto another small patio. It's the courtyard of a small hotel that dates back to the 1700's (OUTLANDER!) It was a private home but was converted to an intimate hotel. The original owner, Jean-Baptiste Lille Sarpy built the present building in 1800 but there are 4 cottages in the back which were originally slave quarters but were later converted to garconnieres (or bachelor quarters) that Creole families provided to unmarried sons to give them privacy. Those cottages and The Old Ursuline Convent are thought to be the oldest surviving structures in the French Quarter. Monsieur Sarpy was the originator of the Sazarac cocktail. Tennessee Williams wrote "A Streetcar Named Desire" in one of the rooms. And in 1981, 38 years ago my new bride and I spent our honeymoon in those rooms. When you go to sleep, you can hear soft jazz playing. Hotel Maison De Ville, a lovely place on Rue Toulouse, right between Royale Street to the south and Bourbon Street to the North. (Oh...and the Court of Two Sisters has a dish...huge broiled lobster stuffed with deviled crab with tiny baby shrimp in the crab. Delicious...but don't eat it if you're allergic to shellfish :) )

There is no place that makes the "best" gumbo because everyone does it differently. You also shouldn't stay just in New Orleans, but adventure out to Jefferson and St. Bernard Parishes. Apparently turtle soup was a delicacy in America 100 years ago, until we ate almost all of the turtles... Now it's very rare. I live in Maryland where it was very prevalent, but I've never even tried it. Our state reptile is the Diamondback Terrapin, a popular edible turtle in those times. Also a good college basketball team :)

Also, the bread makes the po-boy - the french bread in New Orleans is unique - I've never seen it duplicated anywhere else....crispy on the outside, light and soft on the inside. My yardstick for a good po boy place is how good is their oyster po-boy, fully dressed. Also, if you ever come back here, try to take a side trip across Lake Ponchartrain to Covington - get a roast beef po-boy from Bear's.

Thank you for the great shots of the buildings in New Orleans in daylight. It's funny, but all the many times I've seen photos of the city, it's been at night with thousands of drunken revelers in the foreground. As a side note, doesn't turtle soup remind you of Diamond Jim Brady?

I LOVE the turtle soup at the court. Had a feeling that was what got you at the beginning. Glad you loved it.

Glad you enjoyed your dining experiences. Being adventurous is a good thing. I wouldn't have been able to eat "Turtle" soup--just an emotional thing. :) What did you think of the "spice" or "heat" in the food? I meant to recommend Brennan's to you. It is classic and world renown for its Creole/French food, particularly the Eggs Benedict. They even have a "Veal Shawn" on the menu. :)

Also, I hope you took a jazz dinner tour on the Mississippi River and took a haunted carriage tour around the French Quarter. I love that city SO MUCH.

I was born in New Orleans. I live in San Francisco now. I base any so called Cajun restaurant here in CA on how well they do Poboys. Have not found a good one yet.

poboys are popular all over Louisiana. especially in my city of Lafayette. we are about 2 hours drive west of NOLA and there is a distinct culture here called Cajun ⚜

The food that stopped you dead in your tracks was probably the bread pudding! I saw a prior video and you seemed to really enjoy it. 😃

It was either turtle soup or crawfish etouffee. My dad has always been a fan of turtle soup. Glad you’re getting to try so many dishes from my home state :) I wonder if you also get to try red beans and rice? Cheers!

The Court of the 2 Sisters is my favorite restaurant in NOLO. Haven't been there in years & they didn't have a buffet when I was there last. Also, I miss Cafe du Monde. We have a beignet cafe here in StL but nothing can compare to the original.

Turtle soup is probably my favorite - did you add sherry to it? My favorite place to get it was Delmonico's on St Charles Avenue, but I don't know if it is the same since Emeril took it over years ago.

Is it real turtle soup or mock turtle soup? You can hardly go wrong with any food choice in NOLA. Flavor Flavor Flavor!!! I want to know your reaction to the vibe and the architecture there.

The frozen caffe au lait from cafe du Monde is so much better than the hot coffee on a hot day. But if you want really good “hot weather walk around New Orleans” coffee go to Molly’s at the Market and get their famous frozen Irish coffee. Your can’t go wrong with Court of the Two Sisters. Sunday brunch is my favorite time to go!

One thing you have to try are the oysters. They are bigger and better than any place else I have tried. A good oyster Po'Boy is just about the best sandwich you can eat.

I'm so glad you've come to my home town. I hope you put a little sherry on top that turtle soup. Also the bread puddin has a rum sauce not whiskey. You've gone to some great local places! I hope you visit again during Mardi Gras!

Thank you, thank you! I love when you make me laugh! The pause before risking the beignet....😄! (I always get powdered sugar on the end of my nose!) You seem to have done quite well in such a short visit. I'd still be prostrate from jet lag! 🙃 Thanks for the vid! Fun!
