Cù-sìth(e) is Scots Gaelic for Fairy Dog. In the language it's pronounced Koo-shee. In Irish it's Cú-sídhe and is pronounced the same.

I have seen the Cu Sith on 2 occasions! The first time it was walking next to a man ahead of me (about 200 metres ahead). It looked like a large black dog (same shape as my dog, which is an Alaskan Malamute) but black. I noticed that the dog was very well trained, walking right alongside this man without a lead (leash if you're from North America). My dog was pulling hard, but we stayed back because I didn't want any hassle as my dog can be a handful with other males (50kgs of muscle). Anyway, this guy walks one way, I walk the other and we meet in the middle about 20 minutes later, but he has no dog with him. I was expecting this dog to be walking behind him or something. I know this man doesn't own a dog and I never saw him walk one before or after. Fast forward a few months and I'm walking in the same area, just on a crossroads in the forest and I turn to go towards my direction of home and I felt compelled to turn around ... so I did .... this massive dog came running out of the woods, turned down the direction I had just come from, and as he did so, I noticed that he was green / blue in colour (much like a peacock). I thought to myself, what a strange colour!! I was quite shocked! I moved sideways as a large tree was blocking the view of the path where the dog was running down and it had disappeared!!! In a matter of 2 to 3 seconds! When I got home I googled what I had seen. I was shocked to read that these dogs are seen in the Highlands of Scotland (where I live) and it also mentioned that if you saw it, you'd die ...... cut a long story short ..... I did die .... but I am now born again and follow Jesus Christ! Hallelujah! New life .... He's the only way. God Bless you all.

One origin story I've heard for Selkies is Inuit getting lost/blown off course/following the ice and getting washed up on the Irish and Scottish coasts dressed in seal skins.

As a highland and islander, we get told more about Selkies than any other (expect for Nessie). I wouldn't really say that Selkies are shapeshifters, they are kinda like mermaid stories. They are seals but they come on land and take off their pelts. And if you steal the pelt then the Selkie can't go back to the sea and most stories include a man stealing the pelts and take the beautiful selkie as his wife.

The irish have myths about selkies too. I remember a movie from 1994 called "the secret of Roan Innish" that was about selkies.
@lilthuimsteele5553
@lilthuimsteele5553 7 жыл бұрын
Selkies are said to live as seals in the sea and shed their seal skin to become humans on land. Most stories frequently revolve around female selkies being coerced into relationships with humans by someone stealing and hiding their sealskin, often not regaining the skin until years later upon which they return to the sea, forsaking their human family. The legend is apparently most common in the Northern Isles of Scotland is very similar to those of swan maidens. The Cu Siths remind me of Banshees in Irish mythology. The Banshee is a female spirit who heralds death of a family member, usually by shrieking or keening. Irish legend speaks of a lament being sung by a fairy woman; she would sing it when a family member died or was about to die. The Banshee also predicts death. If someone is about to enter a situation where it is unlikely they will come out alive she will warn people by screaming or wailing. Hence why the banshee is also known as a wailing woman.

The Changeling myth resembles someone diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Child suddenly becomes strange, stares with large eyes, uses large words that they shouldn't know. The Changeling myth is all over the world because autism happens all over the world and has remained undiagnosed until recently. Tuberculosis was once called "consumption" after all. :-)

Actually, the dark background made it look like there was a spotlight on ya! ^^ Hmm, the first time I went to Peru, a friend of mine told me something similar to those Changelings. I can't remember what it's called (I can't learn Spanish to save my life), but they would hide in these specific trees, that kinda reminded me of palm trees but thicker. And they would come out at night or daylight when no one was around and take little children... Good times, good times!

+WeeScottishLass The nuckelavee, or nuckalavee, is a horse-like demon from Orcadian mythology that combines equine and human elements. Originating in Norse mythology and the most horrible of all the demons of the Scottish islands, its name may be a progenitor of that by which the Devil is sometimes known, Old Nick. Their appearance resembles that of a skinless horse's head with black blood pulsing through transparent veins, their muscles and sinews also being visible.

True, but only in one bible version - the Authorized King James Version, and no other. The bible as we know it has been translated from Hebrew, to Latin, to Greek, then English. The original translations referred to "a one-horned animal" for which none of those languages had a word, so in the original Hebrew, the word "re'em" which referred to an ox with one horn, was translated into Greek with the closest word they had: monokeros, literally, "One-horned." Then when St Jerome got ahold of it, he used the Latin word for "One-horned," which is "unicornus." The translation from Latin to English coined a new word: unicorn. Basically, a unicorn is an ox born with only one horn.
