You do realize pretty much EVERY national anthem started as a folk song that became popular?

@@oenrn Just pointing out that it's not a national anthem. It's just the song the Scots sing before the rugby. It was written by Roy Williamson of The Corries, and it is about Robert the Bruce's victory over the English army. It was first sung before the rugby in 1990. The actual official anthem of Scotland is of course God Save the King, but I guess they wanted to sing something different to the English. .
