@PikaPhantomVG2 ай бұрын
It is kind of objectively the lightest year for Switch, though, in terms of game releases excluding games that were technically third-party. Triangle Strategy and Live A Live were both only published by Nintendo outside of Japan, and have since come to multiple platforms. Bayonetta 3 was funded by Nintendo, had EPD figures involved with producing the game, and was published by them everywhere, so I'd count it, but it is from a third-party IP. And then Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope was published by Ubisoft everywhere except for Japan, while for Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Koei Tecmo actually published it in Japan. So if you remove every fringe case, they only had 9 releases, and at most, I think you can say they had 11 (with Bayonetta and FEW). 2024 has had 11 excluding Fitness Boxing 3, without Nintendo stepping in to publish games like Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. 2024 does feel quieter overall - smaller games, no real exclusive third-parties outside of Super Monkey Ball - but 2022 was pretty light when it came to Nintendo's actual output using their IPs.

I had not seen one trailer, not one sound bite, not one entry in the series before that, not even a photo or screenshot. I put it on my list because the Switch had a limited library in 2017, and Botw's dlc happened to include an armour set from it, and I thought the outfit looked cool. It's super replayable, just not if you're going for 100% every time. The second time I played it, I was happy to put it down after beating the Darker Side of the Moon. After that point, the remainder of the moons start to feel like a grind.
@SuspiciousScoutАй бұрын
@@colin8802 I disagree. Mario (specifically 3D Mario) is probably my favorite game fracnhise of all time, and even I struggle to find the motivation to replay Odyssey. The first time feeling of exploring the worlds and trying to find all the things is what motivates you to keep going, but after you know where everything is and know what everything does, there's not much of a reason to play again aside from Mario's excellent movement options.
@colin8802Ай бұрын
@@SuspiciousScout I get why some people feel this way. Maybe it's because there isn't a mission-based structure where it's always somewhat clear what you're trying to do. Instead you just wander around and basically stumble upon moons, many of which could be considered "filler". I wonder if people would enjoy replaying it more if there were a separate mode with that mission structure and only the moons that take effort to acquire.
@SuspiciousScoutАй бұрын
@@colin8802 That probably would help a lot. Previous Mario games having straight up beginnings and endings to grabbing stars or shine sprites had clearer goals and structures in mind. It also just allowed Nintendo to craft a path to those stars be more interesting and having more deliberate obstacles in the way. Many of the levels in Galaxy 1 and 2 make me think of this where each star in the same galaxy felt very different in the way you grabbed it, sometimes including entirely new areas. In comparison, since Odyssey is so open ended, the only thing Nintendo could really do is just have a bunch of hidden stuff to keep your interest outside of those dedicated challenge rooms via warp pipes.

Skyward Sword was mostly alright, and I'd say I like it except for a couple things, with a big thing that prevented me from ever wanting to play it again, is on my second play through, the harp did not want to work properly. The remote was just being extremely jank and made it almost impossible to get past the mandatory parts. Then there's the optional stuff involving the harp I couldn't do, making it a Zelda game that it was physically impossible for me to 100% on the Wii. I don't know what Scott was going on about how people can't say it's a good game when I can say it's mediocre at best. The game has next to no exploration, it's overly linear it even compared to Twilight Princess, it's ridiculous easy, there's legit one good dungeon and that's Ancient Cistern (the rest range from decent to bad), it removed a bunch of great stuff from Twilight Princess like being able to swing your sword while running, the finnicky controls at no point feel like second nature, and it's padded to shit. He was saying that game having dozens upon dozens of hours like it was a good thing when it isn't, the game is padded to the brim with mundane, repetitive sidequests that make the player go through all regions three times each. For a while i never understood why i was so exhausted by the end of the game, but it's the padding that causes that. It was so bad that i took like a month break to actually finish it. The game is everything wrong with 3D Zelda games and it's no surprise Breath of the Wild is the way it is.

For me Mario Odyssey is the most replayable Mario game of all. I’ve played it at least 7 times through
@ExiAsWell2 ай бұрын
It’s definitely very replayable (heck, I’ve played it four times and counting), but it’s not the easiest Mario game to replay. It’s kind of a heavy game with a lot of collectibles, and a single moon is not as substantial as a single star in Mario 64 or galaxy. Those games had substantial content behind each and every star, meaning that on repeat playthroughs, you’ll likely find new and substantive content. And because there are just so many moons with repeated ideas, repeat playthrough aren’t always as satisfying. Not every moon is substantive. In addition, the sheer amount of moons means that the game is less structured. In the past games, stars were more like “missions.” In this game, there are just so many of them that it makes the overall experience less structured and overall harder to jump into over and over again. It’s still an amazing game no matter what! I really went off, sorry this is so long. Thanks for reading it! 💖

@@ExiAsWellI think Scott nailed the difference between the design of Odyssey versus 64/Sunshine/Galaxy. Stars and Moons don’t represent the same thing. Moons are rewards for exploration, Stars are just signs that you’ve completed the level. If you’re replaying Galaxy, it’s about playing every level again. That’s going to be a more similar experience to your first play-through than exploring Odyssey again.

As far as the open sandbox/collecthon 3D Mario games between 64, Sunshine & Odyssey goes, Odyssey is the best one. 64 is an important game, but it's very dated and the game gets obnoxious later on. This feels like the most I've ever heard Scott talk about Pokemon. And he doesn't like Pokemon, so it wasn't pleasant.

Always a good day when Scott uploads a movie to Scott's stash. I will share my personal experience and opinion about Animal Crossing city Folk: i grew up playing the gamecube Animal Crossing game with my siblings and absolutely loved it. When City Folks released on Wii, not only were we looking forward to it so much, but it was pretty game changing in our eyes. I would say it is important to note that going from the Gamecube to the Wii is significant, you could play online at friends worlds or bring friends to your worlds which was new for Nintendo and Animal Crossing on consoles. There really was a ton of content in the game aswell and added on way more progression on top of what we were used to in the GC game. Just my personal experience

12:25 I think they release a lot of party games in October cause the 2 major family holidays are right after. So for family gatherings and friends that celebrate together, they can have a copy of the latest mario game for everyone to play? At least that’s what I think Nintendo hopes to happen

We called holiday titles as Fall or Winter blockbuster titles like with Call of Duty, Battlefield, Assassin’s Creed, that are released during that season to generate sale numbers for the gaming company!

The key feature of the Switch was that in table top mode you could hand someone a joycon and play a 2 player game. After the lockdown I've noticed Nintendo increased marketing for their online subscriptions (subscriptions bundled with games). This holiday season I could see Nintendo offering an OLED Switch Choose One Bundle (at retail price) similar to last years Red Box Switch Choose One Bundle. The choices this winter season would be: Mario Party Jamboree, Echoes of Wisdom, and...
