Scott is seriously one of the most genuine KZbinrs out there. No clickbait thumbnails, no sponsor breaks, no mean spirited style drama alerts, no throwing huge piles of money around like confetti. Just a guy, his friends, and Madden 08.

His videos have this kinda DIY feel to them, that has not only inspired me, but countless others.

What about when he was sponsored twice by water companies
@leeartlee9152 жыл бұрын
No joke, the lack of sponsorships is one of the main reasons he is at the top of my favorite channels. And even if the day comes where sponsorships come in, we’ve had years without it so credit where credits due.
@GarethColquhoun2 жыл бұрын
@@leeartlee915 Why is a Utuber making a bit of extra cash from sponcorships such a big deal? Especially since Utube revenue from AdSense cratered several years ago.. Yes it can be irksome listening to them giving a Raid Shadow Legends spiel, given they probably don't really "play" pay to win games like that. Maybe it could be argued it detracts from their credibility when it's a ropey product, so maybe just take products they themselves use, and can vouch for. In any case it's not necessary to sit through the presentation as it's possible to simply skip past it. I like Scott and would not mind him earning some extra coin this way. It doesn't impact his subscribers negatively in any way should he choose to.
@leeartlee9152 жыл бұрын
@@GarethColquhoun Because, well, it’s unnecessary. Scott has never done a sponsorship, ever. And guess what he was able to do last year? Buy a fucking house. So he’s doing just fine. People act like there’s no morals or ethics in the pursuit of making the most money you can. That’s the demented capitalistic mentality of western civilization, America especially. Because ask yourself this question: how much money does someone actually need? If I was able to make content that I loved, that entertained millions, without having to shill for some fucking soulless mobile game company, I would do the same thing. On the other hand, there are some channels I watch where they would NOT be able to continue without sponsorships. There’s a line. And even then, most of these KZbinrs who are modestly successful are making more money than the average American. The field I got into professionally, there were several routes to take. Some of those routes would have made me 3,4, maybe even 5 times more money. But I would not have the same dignity and respect for myself if I decided to go that path. So I have less money in my bank account but I also don’t have to feel shame for where my money comes from. That’s what the issue is.

I think I get what Scott’s worry was. The AVGN type style of youtube was seemingly on the way out. Everything had to be a lot more serious in the video game realm. But Scott’s channel (and others like it) prove that videos that focus on the absurdity of the hobby are just as valuable.
@hugocastilla31022 жыл бұрын
This is so true. At the time, this type of videos were rather too formal or a copy of the AVGN style. Neither bad, but already seen. Scott was part of a new wave of content creator who just embraced absurdity with passion. Sounds silly, but it made them refreshing to see

i really do love how you can tell this is, and always has been, scott's PASSION. even when he was real young, making videos has always been his thing, with stuff like wozniak news and his school projects. my favorite youtubers are always the ones who make videos because its truly what they love doing, not because its what works, or what gets them money or views. you can tell scott really truly loves and cares about his craft, and has always been a super creative person from the start. THAT is what i love about scott.

What makes your videos so entertaining to me is how obvious you and your friends are having fun making these videos. Your skits are legitimately funny (the dark age of Nintendo therapy stuff was a personal favorite of mine). And I agree, I really liked Madden 08.
@leeartlee9152 жыл бұрын
I agree…. but something I can’t help but be curious about is if he compensates his friends for these videos. I mean obviously he buys pizza and makes it fun but with his channel approaching 2 million subs, there is some serious money coming in. Big enough that a kid at 24 was able to buy a house. I’m almost twice his age and I can’t afford to buy a house, hahaha.
