@@BloodfelX HGSS and platinum are actually possible for all 3, without the need for a damp Pokémon, as all of them have stomp as a starting move. Though if they didn't have that it wouldn't be possible as the earliest encounters with a damp Pokémon would be wooper in HGSS after violet city (which has 2 required battles to make it there) and psyduck in platinum in the ravaged path (which has a few required battles to make it there on route 202). I love this idea! I've been wanting to do an all-Regi run in Gen 3 and I would have just given them a second move (like Stomp). It could be neat to leave them with their base moves and have to switch train them until they learn a new move. A 3-Pokemon run would be interesting too because you're splitting the EXP 3 ways so you won't be overlevelled as quickly and TMs are not reusable, so you'll have to be careful how you distribute them.

I'd watch an Infested Terran only StarCraft run. But I also watch StarCraft challenge videos anyway. If I wasn't paying attention I would have thought this was a video from another tab I have open. Interesting solution to the Regi problem. They were never intended to be level 5. I likely would have started the run with them being level 10, but that also unbalances the rest of the tier list. Explosion if obviously useless in solo runs, it would be interesting to see how it can help in runs where you have a team.

Scott: proceeds to list and say that special/physical coverage with Regirock/Regice is completely useless. Also Scott: "So I chose a nature that lowers Speed/my best stat". Why oh why. Keep in mind I'm just at the early portion of the video, so I don't know what's gonna happen, eventual realizations and optimizations, but this isn't the first time you make... out there choices for natures, right after you express sound reasoning about the Pokémon's movepool and stats.
@andreapareti3247 ай бұрын
I have now gotten to the Regirock vs Wallace portion of the video and... yeah 😅; but hey, experimentation is interesting and making mistakes and learning from them is part of that, right? As always, I admire your approach - just *please* consider Adamant, Modest, Timid or Jolly much more often; I get that this is before the Physical-Special split, but I don't think it's usually worth it to have anything else for coverage, especially for Pokémon that are this skewed towards one kind of offense, so they will generally be more useful natures when going in blind for a Pokémon; you always have the next playthrough to make adjustments, if you feel they're really needed.

I've also always felt the Regis were pretty emblematic of their Types! Granted, Regice is indeed slow, which is not ideal, for an Ice Type... but many of them are slow anyway; in that sense, I guess Regice is the quintessential Ice Type Pokémon, rather than incorporating well the Type itself and its strengths.

The dedication you have to these videos is very impressive. The fact that you looked at three Pokemon who could not solo a game and said "but how can I rank them within the impossible tier" is amazing. I probably would have considered a universe in which the Regis start with their respective weak STAB moves, or even have them start with Stomp like they do in later generations, but the solution you used was way funnier. I noticed you using early Rare Candies, which I think is really good and will drastically improve your Emerald play by considering which Pokemon need them and when. One thing I'd consider doing differently with the solos is I'd have made Marshtomp the rival for Regirock instead of Grovyle just because it resists Rock moves. It especially would've made the second fight harder and maybe would have required training for Secret Power. Very very good video! I'm excited for more Emerald VS videos!

Scott, I used to play competitive Gen 3 You NEVER EVER EVER go with a negative speed nature The only good natures are Adamant, Jolly, Modest & Timid Figure out which of those 4 a Pokémon belongs to, & play it that way
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon7 ай бұрын
I appreciate your comment. But this is limited thinking that doesn't apply when the context changes. Let me explain. In competitive your Pokemon are always going to be the same level with nearly maxed stats and ideal EVs. You also don't have a badge boost advantage over your enemy. In a play through the player gets EVs, level advantage, and badge boosts. The AI does not. Lowering speed can preserve your non-dominant attacking stat for specific moments. Having a higher attack with a special attacking mon can for example speed up early fights where that mon has to rely on tackle. Lowering total turns in battle by having a higher damage output reduces time. Also, defensive stats tend to be less important in solo runs because you know where you'll take damage against a set of fix enemy mons. As a result of this these natures tend to be the first options to consider: Rash, Naughty, then: Adamant, Modest If the Pokemon is extremely fast then considering speed lowering natures is better. I've recently learned that the base speed threshold is around 55-65 base speed. If you are above this a speed lower nature can be taken while still managing to outspeed the majority of targets in the run. The exceptions are Drake's Flygon (124) and Salamance (136), and Steven's Claydol (140). The fact of the matter is that solo running is fundamentally different from competitive play. Speed lowering natures can give a mon more flexibility with it's moves, especially when 1 mon has to solve a particularly different threat (or multiple) with constained moveset options.

I'm SO excited for this starcraft channel WHAT Honestly what initially got me into this channel years ago was my love for Pokemon/challenge runs.. but also that I never played gen 1 more than a little, and really didn't have much deep knowledge in it. Your super through/rigorous breakdowns with these solo runs was the perfect infodump wonder for me I've loved watching you go into games I know better, and refine your layout and gameplay with time. But losing that magic as you've moved to more familiar gens left me less engaged recently, in all honesty. I've barely ever played StarCraft, and know absolutely nothing. That taste in the intro really recaptured that magic again for me! I'm so excited for this new channel, honestly.

Yeah, when you've got only 50 base special attack and are primarily a physical attacker, it's always best to go adamant. The nature drop to such a low stat is barely even going to affect the moves used when you do use the rare special attack for a physical attacker or vice versa. Even Regice would probably perform better overall as Modest if it can still manage to pull off Whitney at the same level. It might be worth doing various playthrough comparisons to test this, but yeah, glad to see you're learning more about natures

Anyone else feel like Scott is biased against ice types? I feel like every time one of these has a good time in a versus video, he is convinced one of the other combatants can do better, and he will do repeat playthroughs until one of them beats the ice type. Give the ice type some love too!
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon7 ай бұрын
I'll have to examine that within myself. I don't think I am bias against them. It's hard to communicate the total experience of playing a run in a video like this. Regice was DRAMATICALLY less consistent than the other two. I had to restart the run over and over. It just kept losing to the early game trainers. The other two did not play like that. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though, so if anyone wants to sit down and play these runs 3+ times like I did I'll happily review their results and do more runs myself.

I've said this before, but I find ranking within impossible tiers kind of fascinating. There'll certainly be others for gen3 - Wurmple, the cocoons and Feebas are all obvious, as well as some mons from other gens if Scott gets round to them. However it will still be interesting to see if there's any point where the playthrough is actually impossible for any or all of those or just monumentally improbable. Either way, they're all getting further than the unmodified Regis. Then there's a separate question of whether, like with Red in JRose's gen2 Spinarak run, there are any unevolved mons with actual movesets that just don't have any way to solve Steven so also drop into the top end of the "improbable" tier. Poochyena feels a strong candidate and I could also see it happen with Azurill (decent movepool but absolutely pathetic stats) or Slakoth (lolTruant).
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon7 ай бұрын
Yeah, there will likely end up being and improbable and impossible tier. For now ranking these three was easy, but I'll have to examine each circumstance individually as they appear in the future.

With a Persim Berry to shake off the first Sweet Kiss, I don't think the Luvdisc could really break the sub very easily, and obviously you can just re-learn Hidden Power from the Slateport vendor. Given Luvdisc's awful attacking stats, it can't really break a substitute; the only reason it's annoying is confusion, which substitute would protect you from, leaving it as basically setup fodder. Just a thought.

I mean the whole ages of history thing still fits with the newer ones: Regice - Ice Age Regirock - Stone Age Registeel - Iron Age Regidrago - Dark Age Regiekeki - Modern Age Although I will admit the Gen VIII Regis do feel a tad off in that regard

@@pyrotempestwing that does make sense though dark-age makes it feel like dark would probably fit better, but the mythology aspect makes the dragon make sense.

I can tell by the way Scott talks about Ludicolo that he cannot wait to play a generation with freeze-dry...

I was always sort of sad that the Regis start with Explosion, but I should've known you'd still take their runs so seriously. Love it.

Love all of your videos, so entertaining. I'd love to see someday a HG/SS Horsea line (including Kingdra) solo run!

1:05:03 It feels so poetic that when Regirock powers through like a trooper with 1 hp remaining, Ludicolo comes in with 1 more point of speed.

I'm surprised you haven't done the early game bird yet. Since it's not really wingull/pelipper. Tailow/swellow fit better since they are the normal/flying type. Still cant wait for certain gen 1 mons in geb 4. Hitmonchan might do well

I still play brood war regularly. This is the least expected crossover I've ever experienced. gl on your second channel

When Scott said he thinks the Rock type will be the fastest when Wallace exists, I just knew Regirock's first run was going to be 😬
