SPOILERS!! Something also worth noting is that all of the S-tiers are in the same EXP Group (Medium Slow, which is actually faster than Fast in part of the early-game, and the Fast growth rate Pokémon have bad Brock splits). Maybe that contributed more than the Poison typing. After all, the amount of opponents in Yellow that just derp in front of Poison types is far fewer than in Red/Blue.
@InfernosReaper
@InfernosReaper Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the early game has the most bog-down points(Brock, Rival 2/Misty), so that better XP progression is great for getting over that hump. By the time that's over, the game's opened up and the player can pick the best route for a particular mon, so reduced or exhausted EXP benefits don't matter anymore. Kinda reminds me of an article by one of the D&D 3rd Developers where he talks about how different XP progression charts are a poor point of balance, because most of a game is at the lower levels and a character needed a few more encounters to level up isn't really keep them from dominating until the cap unless the gap is so high they're basically useless. Moreover, once that cap is hit, the power gap doesn't go away. Thus, balance needs to be attained within the entity designs themselves.

I actually really like Victreebel. I have one in a Soul Silver Nuzlocke. His name is Mandrake and he was a big help in a the early points of the game. He's still alive, I just replaced him with a Tangrowth that I caught named Tania. If something happens to her then Mandrake is coming back as my grass type pokemon. Love getting to see Victreebel doing well. Vileplume is nice too since the two of them are great in their own ways. Please keep up the good work and great videos.

I really love this run because these two are still some of my favourites. Vileplume may possibly still be my favourite just because it’s so solid and can be difficult for the AI to deal with, but I absolutely love Victreebel’s design. A great result by Victreebel, knocking Gengar down is a great achievement. Wait until Gen 4 where you can run a physical Vileplume or Victreebel. I loved Grass types so much as a kid that it really got me into keeping carnivorous plants. I had a massive terrarium with heaps of rare ones that my grandparents had spent a lot of money helping me make. I’d also catch flies to feed to them - something I became quite good at. I think this is my favourite run, can’t wait to thee them, Bellossom and Sunflora in Johto.

I really appreciate how much dedication you put into your videos and go behind the scenes. You are making real definitive results for these videos by comparison to other youtubers who are doing it more for theater and doing casual let's plays, basically. I love your passion for these games and the Pokémon in them. I feel that way too, and it is so cool to see someone with a growing platform treat every video meticulously, yet you still make them fun. I go back-and-forth between what my top 2-3-4 Pokémon are, but Victreebel is always in that top tier discussion. I loved the grass type growing up playing RBY. I discovered Razor Leaf and how it always got a critical hit with Victreebel's speed. My only real complaint would be why it had to have a sub-type of poison. If it has to be that way, then Victreebel should have learned Sludge IMO. With STAB it would be a pretty effective move - not to mention alongside Victreebel's high Base Attack stat. Anyway, I love the videos and glad to be a supporter. Keep them coming! 🎉

Venusaur is basically a worse Victreebel in terms of these playthoughs. Very similar learnsets and pretty similar stats (same special, Venusaur has more speed and defense but those don't really matter, Victreebel has slightly more attack which I guess helps a little bit). Big difference is that Victreebel starts with sleep powder and razor leaf whereas Venusaur has to wait for levels 55 and 30 for those moves.. Venusaur getting growth, which Victreebel doesn't have access to, at level 43 might make some of the late game a tiny bit quicker, but it won't offset the huge advantage Victreebel gets from having,such a powerful status move right from the start. I predict Venusaur will be around the bottom of the S tier. Still very fast in the grand scheme but not quite on Victreebel's level.

I feel like Tentacruel's gonna be the top of A tier, because it doesn't get a Water move until L22, so you're stuck with Wrap, Supersonic, etc. This is gonna give you a slow start and its low defence will make Brock a liiiittle problematic (some extra training in Viridian Forest needed). Still, this will be the ONLY hurdle and you don't even need to wait to 22, due to the Water Gun TM.

I am so excited for this one, most hyped I've been since your porygon playthrough. I do think victrebell will win, just cause it's faster, hits harder, and has better moves. But both are some of my favorite Gen 1 pokemon and I hope it's close

Scott, I think you're the best poke tuber. I've been watching your videos since the star, helped me sleep after coming home after overnights. You do an excellent job and your commitment to the game and your fans is unparalleled. Keep chugging on! Thank you for helping me fall asleep and entertaining me when I'm home alone. I'm sure I speak for a lot of us when I say please don't stop and keep going!

Excellent as always =) It sounds like maybe we need a Poliwhirl VS Weepinbell playthrough? Except Weepinbell starts with Growth, whereas Poliwhirl doesn't get access to Amnesia until level 41... Maybe it doesn't need it until later, and then Poliwhirl does get Bubblebeam/Bodyslam early, then Ice Beam/Earthquake/Psychic, so I honestly don't know? I also have no idea which Pokemon should VS Gloom, to me the closest match-up looks like Dragonair?

@Scott's Thoughts first time I caught it. :) I like it. Great job with this video. I 100% was super surprised by the results and also how poison types are so low yet the dual poison types (fully evolved) are near the top. Tentacruel is going to be very interesting.

I think it has been a while since I see a versus video. I miss these! Vileplume was my preferred one as a kid. It was simply because it was the cuter one. However, in recent years, I have grown to love Victreebel from my Pogo experience.

Great vid! Always thought Victreebel was really strong in these games, regardless of ingame or competitive use. One of my favorites in this gen, glad to see it dethroning more conventionally strong mons like Gengar or Nidoking. Vileplume surprised me, I didn't expect it to keep pace so well with Victreebel. If only petal dance was just a bit stronger... As a game designer, I've sort of been inspired by runs like this to try and put together a set of balance changes that retain RBY's unique quirks and charms while giving certain mons a little power boost that they might need. Just a thought experiement at the end of the day, but still fun to compile using these videos as references from time to time. A run I'm very curious to see using your methods would be Poliwhirl. It might not seem conventionally strong, but it gets the moveset and speed stat of Poliwag with more power and bulk, without the fighting type hinderance that Poliwrath has holding it back (despite me personally preferring Poliwrath's typing). I'm not sure if it would dethrone anyone, but it might be able to hit A or possibly S tier (not as likely), especially since it's surprisingly potent even in competitive weirdly enough. Could be wrong, the only place I could see it struggling is midgame before it gets Amnesia at 41. Because while Erika is skippable, there's not exactly a clear path forward on what to tackle first with it.

I did a Poliwhirl playthrough around last April. It was very good. Didn’t have time to make it into a video. I’ll do an official video for it (and Weepinbell) later in the year.

@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Thanks man! I can't really take credit for the idea though. I don't believe for a second I was the first one to realize that a gym leaders ace may not always be their last pokemon. Even so, the recognition is great and I appreciate it. I can't wait for the offhanded joke about Giovanni's ace. The most powerful ground type ever imagined for the 8th gym leaders ground type team; Persian. Lmaoooo Edit: and let's not forget the ace so powerful it wasn't even on his team. Blaine's Magmar XD

Seeing this video made something in me click: Meowscarada has basically single target gen 1 razor leaf as its signature move. They are roughly the same base power considering crits in gen 1 are not exactly 2 times damage; At level 50 a 55 BP razor leaf is actually a 105 BP grass move who ignore boosts... Just like Flower trick. Btw, Meowscarada is heavily carried by fast Flower Trick and Knock off, both in singles and in doubles.

I loved oddish so much when i was little (i still do). My brother had a figure I loved with a ball-bearing inside, and i love the card illustrated by Keiji Kinebuchi. When I first played fire red I caught an oddish and used her all the way through. Vileplume is one of my favourite gen 1 pokemon.

I remember those pokemon figures with the ball bearing. Had a couple of them.. can't recall any specifics. They kinda bothered me because they didn't stand well due to the ball, and it also didn't really do anything

Almost halfway through the video i noticed that scott didn't use the phrase 'over a damage rounding thershold' yet, and i wandered if it will stay like that until the video ends, but nope lol he said it in the second playthrough for vileplume. Took you a long time😅 Great video, great content, keep it up

Not as relevant with these two power houses. It was just more important to order the mid-game correctly. Sort of refreshing not having to think about levels as much as I normally do.

Love this video, great to see that both pokemon are really good, though no surprise victreebel is very good(though surprising it is THIS good) it has always had a reputation of being a powerhouse. More surprising is the power on Vileplume, interesting to see it is so good of a pokemon, I always took it for granted, but it is actually really good it seems. If/when you get around to playing a zigzagoon run you should name him Oy after the best billy-bumbler, who looks kinda like one.
