Remember to convert to watts before figuring out if your USB supply is going to give enough juice. Just multiply amps by volts - so 5V x 2.4A = 12Watts. When you step it up to 9V, that's going to give you 12/9 = 1.3 amps - the HX stomp really wants a little more than this - about 1.5 amps or more. I've just ordered one of these - looks very useful!
@dor00714 жыл бұрын
So if you need 9v just like in the video you should get the 12v?
@kane65294 жыл бұрын
Would a power bank that delivers 3 amps be better? Just on the website it says to only run 2.4amp ?
@BassBaseBerlin2 жыл бұрын
@@dor0071 I know - old post, so hopefully you didn't use the 12V - since if you need 9V - use 9V. Dave is referring to the power 12W ... not 12V. So my original HX Stomp power supply is rated 9V 3A --> 27W!!! This is quite powerful and obviously the reason they put in a different pin so you can't connect directly to normal 9V power supplies. So on 5V this would equal roughly (lost for conversion...) to 6A - which is way more than normal USB ports deliver. So that _may_ work, it _may_ burn or the HX may encounter instabilities. Maybe I should do a video on power and calculation ... somebody interested in a session "Volts, Amperes and Watts for musicians in a practical way" ??? Give me a thumbs up, if you like this idea.

2:33 The Roland adapter outputs 9.0V and 2.0A. The 9V MyVolts cable only outputs 1.0A (if you flip the USB plug around, you would see it on the lable). So it might be ok for normal use, when the device requries smaller current, but definitely not usable in high current situation (greater than 1 A).

Another cool trick to avoid dirty wall power, no power, too far away power, is a lithium battery. I use a Westinghouse iGen300s (300 watt hour). It is small, very light, and plenty for almost anything, especially solid state gear which don't use many watts. I use it on vintage tube amps - they use way more watts, depending on the size.

Are you able to use this for a long time? I am trying a second ripcord already now, and it shuts off after some time using a patch with Poly Sustain (I assume more DSP literally uses more power). Yesterday managed around two hours though, no poly sustain then. Seems like it is overheating, because the Stomp draws more than 1 Amp, which the ripcord is rated for. Cools off in a while, then works again, for a short time. Perhaps the original psu had 3 amps for a reason. Probably their new 9v Power Delivery thingy would work better. But yeah, I do see people using these for long times, but somehow does not work for me.
