Sam Jarmer became paralyzed while working as a lifeguard on a New Jersey beach in the summer of 2019. Since that day, Sam has been working as hard as he possibly can to get back on his feet and get himself closer to a normal life. I got to sit down with Sam and have him share his story with everyone.

I had a whole lot of Luck when i technically broke my neck (c2) a few years ago but only had to spend one week in Hospital. At that age i dont think i could have handled a spinal core injury mentally and i dont know if i could now. What i actually want to say is that it is absolutely amazing and inspiring to see you two pushing towards their Goals and handling the situation so well. Thx for your work Scotty, im hyped to see riding videos from you again!

Wow, you really did get very lucky as a cord injury that high up is not good. Were you then then fused? I was hit 3yrs ago at the side of my head above my fused. My neck snapped to the side. It looked like my c3 broke but flew outward and away from the cord so no new injury.

a pal was in a rehab facility & friended a guy who lived the kind of life that allowed him to have a 52’ Hatteras sport fishing boat. he was over 50 miles offshore & dove into the Atlantic to cool down. he dove directly into a Sea Turtle & that impact caused him to become a Quad. He’s now able to walk with assistance, but is a long way from where Scott currently is. I’m sharing this, because fate smiles on us all: Extreme Athletes, Sedentary Gamers, Rich, Poor, Young & Old. the Way to Live is to Live with Love & Compassion for All & to not Sweat the Small BS in our Lives. Eliminate Those that Cause Strife & Disrespect from Your Life, even if it Hurts. Be Excellent to Everyone & Love and Respect One Another. We Damn-Sure Need It

20 yrs ago I broke my back slightly mtn biking and basically walked it off only to be plagued by random weakness and motor function dysfunction years down the road. My injury isnt even close to what these heroes are going through but I say heroes because the toughest battle we as humans will ever fight is against the ego check we receive when we are reminded just how delicate we really are. There is so much more to dealing with injuries like this than just the physical parts. Stay strong guys and Thanks!

TIL THIS DAY I STILL HAVE DISCOMFORT THERE, LAST NIGHT I HAD NECK DISCOMFORT AT THE BAR, BUT I'M SO GRATEFUL TO BE ABLE TO STILL DO THE THINGS I LOVE, LIKE WEIGHT LIFTING, FISHING, ETC

I’m a C5/6 incomplete. However I have no faith my situation will ever change. I can feel everything below my injury my pinky and thumb both move freely but my fingers are curled. I have full bowel/bladder control. I can basically feel and move everything but I can’t walk. Success in my life is accepting that a physical disability isn’t the end. You can accept your disability and still have a wonderful life CO’s that’s what I’m doing. Newsflash is you can’t work a nerve like you can strengthen a muscle. This isn’t a muscular or a bone injury. The spinal chord is a series of nerves. That’s why our specialists are known as neurologists. Nerves can’t be strengthened or fused back together and that’s why we remain paralyzed. You can’t exercise your way to fixing a spinal chord injury. It doesn’t work that way. Ask Superman. Oh yeah. He died of his spinal chord injury.
