20 yrs ago I broke my back slightly mtn biking and basically walked it off only to be plagued by random weakness and motor function dysfunction years down the road. My injury isnt even close to what these heroes are going through but I say heroes because the toughest battle we as humans will ever fight is against the ego check we receive when we are reminded just how delicate we really are. There is so much more to dealing with injuries like this than just the physical parts. Stay strong guys and Thanks!

This is a heart warming but also very sad video....my heart goes out to both of you young men!! My son in law broke his neck in two places as a teenager on a motorcycle that he wrecked but he is a miracle with few that had this happen to recover as he has. He was flown to Harborview in Seattle. This man a decade after that became the owner of a mechanics shop! He can lift heavy weight and recovered remarkably...unbelievable! He has strong legs, is muscular and has a completely healed body with no disability. However my own Mother was a victim of a violent crime and spent 31 years as a quadriplegic in a care home... She was afraid to live out in the world after that. She was only 24 when that happened. She had limited hand use and didn't walk.

I restore vintage audio gear and a few years back had a customer contact me about wanting to buy a restored radiogram. I happened to have one that i could sell him. He had a complete spinal injury which meant he could not move at all. When i delivered it to his house i found it quite confronting to see him just lying in bed unable to move. He could only just manage to talk and his room had to be freezing as he could not maintain his body temperature. I found it very confronting and of course felt great sympathy. I will never forget that day and the courage that this guy showed in wanting to keep his hobbies going. Respect to everyone with a disability no matter what kind.

I’m a C5/6 incomplete. However I have no faith my situation will ever change. I can feel everything below my injury my pinky and thumb both move freely but my fingers are curled. I have full bowel/bladder control. I can basically feel and move everything but I can’t walk. Success in my life is accepting that a physical disability isn’t the end. You can accept your disability and still have a wonderful life CO’s that’s what I’m doing. Newsflash is you can’t work a nerve like you can strengthen a muscle. This isn’t a muscular or a bone injury. The spinal chord is a series of nerves. That’s why our specialists are known as neurologists. Nerves can’t be strengthened or fused back together and that’s why we remain paralyzed. You can’t exercise your way to fixing a spinal chord injury. It doesn’t work that way. Ask Superman. Oh yeah. He died of his spinal chord injury.
