chief tp there is a good reason for this Love affair. Americans grew up driving mostly in suburban and rural areas. Compared to Asia and Europe where population densities are much heavier, North American consumers could/would drive great distances, mostly for pleasure. It’s a cultural thing; motels, drive in theaters, cruising, “Sunday drives”, etc.... Americans fell in love with their new found freedom, mobility. The automobile became another example of self expression and an extension of freedom. I’m sure many others had this feeling behind the wheel as well.

Those V6 Honda engines are great. I have a 2007 Honda Accord SE V6. Bought it used in 2012 with 38k miles. Sitting right below 100k now with no issues and it rides and sounds like new. Just needs some new rear bushings though. I'm a Toyota guy, my wife is a Honda girl. So I guess that means our relationship will last forever too.

Scotty, I have been waiting SO LONG for you to say something about the awesome Crosstour. I have a 2014 Crosstour, EX/V6/AWD/Leather/Navigation, and I just Love It!! Oh great someone that has one I am considering buying. I have loved these cars for a long time. But small doubts on the timing belt and the dream issue with the oil. Everything else I LOVE!! I do change my oil like clockwork on my vehicles so that may prevent one. But any advice would be great please. Considered the 4 cylinder but like you I want the AWD.
@chrisrobertson-noaaaffilia4518
@chrisrobertson-noaaaffilia4518 3 жыл бұрын
@@ArgChica I would think those 4-cylinder engines would be under-powered for a heavy car like the Crosstour, especially if you get AWD. And if you get a stripped-down Crosstour, my opinion is "what's the point?". The Crosstour was meant to be a beefier Accord, with its V6, AWD, and a few inches higher ground clearance than the Accord. I too, change my oil like clockwork, so I am hoping that overcomes any dilution that the oil suffers. And I also am very willing to shell out the $1,000 cost for a timing belt replacement, when the time comes. Don't scrimp; get the whole package. I don't really care about gas mileage, as I didn't when I bought my V6 Accord, and am extremely happy with the performance the Crosstour provides. It snows where I live, and sometimes wished for AWD when driving my Accord. Now I've got just what I want!

I own a 2011 Honda Accord Crosstour and it has big issue with it's engine. There is even a class action suit. The problem comes with their VCM technology which shuts down some cylinders to save fuel but they forgot to stop pumping in the fuel. This made the sparks plugs go foul prematurely especially the sparks plugs on cylinders 3 and 4. Had my engine misfiring half the way from Alabama to Texas. Took a lot of time to figure it out. Changed the spark plugs once and they drive pretty good now. But it would be a good idea to change them every 50,000 miles. Also the braking power is not so great. The Accord Crosstour is made heavy as a bullock with tiny brakes on them, had them warping very fast. But I still love the damn car. It's ride quality is good. Very roomy. I am looking forward for another Crosstour if they are ever releasing one.

I also have a 2008 Honda Odyssey EX-L with 164k miles on it. Recently had timing belt service because it was making rattling noises, found that water pump bearing was going bad...did the whole thing done. We had no idea if the timing belt service was done before that, lucky us! As for VCM, there is a VCM disable module to turn it off by fooling the computer thinking it's not warm enough to turn on the. VCM...it has to be under 160 degrees F coolant temperature. There is still some issues with VCM even after the lawsuits. Honda seems to refuse to disable them because that is famous on fouling spark plugs, destroying engine mounts, etc.

Cylinder 3 in my 2012 Accord V6 sedan began misfiring about 3 weeks after I purchased it from Carmax in May of 2016. I took it to my local Honda service department, which tried to fix the problem by resetting/re-calibrating it with the computer, but after several failed attempts, they decided to replace the cylinder. Thank God for an 8 year/120k mile Honda warranty or I would’ve had to cough up about $2k for that repair!

@Snake Plissken I reached out to Honda And they said the extension was for like 8 years it expired last year. When I asked if they could at least do a free ECU software update. But they said as it's out of warranty that I have pay out of my pocket 😑. So I am right now like I am gonna drive so long as I can fix the problem. If it gets out of hand I'll just move as it probably is not the best idea to spend couple of grand on an 10 year old car.
@egn83b

The biggest issues with honda v6 is the fuel injectors getting stuck open and fouling out the plugs while the engine is off. You gotta replace the fuel injectors when they develope this condition. I used to have a honda engine that fauled plugs every month the best method to keeping this problem down is seafoam gas tank at 1/4 tank this will free up the stuck injectors.

I love my 2010 EXCEPT the intrusive VCM. I can feel the transition and see the TAC bounce around. Had Honda dealer check it several times shortly after I purchased it in 2018 and they contacted Honda America. After providing video of TAC it was determined to be normal ops. I paid $70 for a resistor harness on internet that fools temp sensor into thinking car is a few degrees cooler than it is so the VCM doesn’t kick in. Lost about 2mpg but car is much easier to live with.

We leased a new one in 2010, and it was a fine car - definitely underrated. We had a normal Accord after 2012, and it was not quite as solid. The only problem with these is that rearward visibility is horrendous. Also, even with the highest interior trim options, the front-passenger seat had no ability to raise, leaving it in an awkwardly low-to-the-floor position. The cargo area was fairly good, but the subs were definitely a crunch on interior space.

The 03 crv kept my two little kids, 8yr old and I safe when we got Tboned at highway speed. The 2017 Subaru Legacy that hit us was toast. The entire front crumple zones crumples and then some!

Girlfriend loves her 2010 Crosstour but, at 85k miles, had to get new rings on back 3 cylinders...all VCM V-6s across all models potentially have this problem because the two cylinders that shut down in eco-mode prematurely wear and foul plugs when they start burning oil. It's past the settlement extended warranty but they agreed to cover 70% of the cost because she had documents showing 100% Honda servicing and no Honda mechanic ever noted it was burning oil. If that was a Chevy, it would be scrapped...as it is, the repairs made it run like new and the car overall looks and smells like it's only a couple if years old. There is a by-pass for the VCM system that will save your engine.

I had a 2010 Honda Crosstour. Ever have that one car you just kick yourself over and over for trading in? Well, that was the one. Beautiful, inside and out. I loved the spacious interior, the stock stereo system was fabulous. A lot of people didn't know what it was, and Honda didn't market it much. The only issues I ever had with it were the front axle bearings wearing out, where they went inside the transmission. Honda fixed it for free, as it was a certified used car. The brakes warped easily too, since it was so heavy, and the brakes were so small. Ride was plush, handling, I have to disagree with you Scotty. Little sloppy in the twisties. Car had AWD, and towed my boat just fine, even though it was over the tow limit. ( I just towed it a couple miles.) The Crosstour had claws in the snow! I miss this car everyday. Hey Scotty, Love your channel, I'm a backyard mechanic and really love working on anything I can get my hands on. I watch almost all of your videos! Unfortunately I live in Northern Minnesota and have to deal with rust on EVERYTHING! I own a 2007 Toyota Tundra that I have babied since I got it from out of state about 6 years ago. Toyota sent me a recall notice about frame issues, where they would either replace the frame, or spray it with a corrosion resistant coating. I spoke with the dealership, and told them that if they weren't going to throughly clean and scrape the frame, I didn't want it done, since it would just encapsulate the existing rust. They said the do scrape it all down, and thouroughly clean it before applying the CRC. Long story short, it's all pealing off and there is a lot of rust under it. Dealership says not their problem, and so does Toyota. I've always taken great care of my truck, and it's frame was I'm great shape before this. What do you think?

When the VCM kicks on, it causes excess vibration and wear to the Front CV Axles and Transaxle Mounts. By disabling it, you get all your V6 power all the time, and barely lose 1 mpg overall.
