However, the Hemi Charger and Challenger engines were awful for a period around 2010. Another one is the ZF transmission, which is a little sluggish on cold winter mornings in the first few gears. Lifter bores have an oil gallery that feeds the lifter bores and cam. Not splash lubrication dependant. Needle bearings in the lifter rollers lock up/wear and then proceed to wipe/eat the cam. 2017 and up needle bearing size increased. Still wouldnt idle excessivly though and keep mds disabled by being in sport mode.
@samc2317 ай бұрын
That oil gallery is OFFSET and not directly over the lifters and cam so at idle the oil does not splash around enough to lubricate the lifters and cam. These Hemi engines are Defective and have been like this for at least 15 years. Sure you can rebuild it but Why ?; it will simply do it again. Chrysler should have recalled them all with an updated design but then they'd go bankrupt. Shame on Scotty for making excuses.

I had a 2005 Power Wagon that got stolen 4 months ago. It had 330,000 miles on it and never had any major repairs or breakdowns. It was made in Mexico. We then bought a 2022 Power Wagon which is also made in Mexico. Started with 17000 miles and I'm up to 27000 now with no problems. By the way you are correct on avoiding long idling. I also change oil every 5000 miles and use 5W-20 rather than the recommended 0 to 20. The believe is that it provides a little better idle pressure, and I live in Arizona where we don't care about the cold. There are times I may want to idle for a while and am toying with the idea of rigging something up to get a 1500 rpm idle for that purpose.

All vehicles have their own list of issues. Here's the common ones on 19+ Rams: Rear window leak 3rd brake light leak Sun visors fail and fall down active air dam failure (though there is a recall on this one) Oil pans rust out Exhaust manifolds crack down the middle Lifter failure (which can lead to camshaft failure) Upper Control arm or balljoint failure battery premature failure. If yours is made in Mexico: Bad welds along the roof. Many guys are getting water leaking in and think it's the infamous rear window leak when really it's a bad weld just under that plastic strip on the roof. Will you get all these problems? No, probably not. But those are the biggest common issues with this truck. Look up the common issues with other trucks and pick the list you are most comfortable with.

The truck has 71,000 miles on it. Have had no issues until a couple of weeks age. The O.E. battery gave up after 6 1/2 years. I bought a used 2016 Rebel with 132,000 miles. No HEMI tick, sounds and drives fantastic. But the first thing I did when looking at used Rams was check the idle hours. This truck only had 14% of its engine time as idle hours…the was significantly lower than ever other one I looked at that were all in the 20’s. Some in the high 20’s….hell no. Great truck. Hint if you have the air suspension. They all leak, but if you put the system into Off Road when you park it, miraculously you won’t loose pressure overnight.
