Scotty Kilmer Hey Scotty I do not no much about cars. I wanted to ask if you knew about 2005 Lincoln's LS's. I noticed that when I turn my key to start my car that I have a service light come on and my car starts shaking I just got a oil change and I have oil i was wondering if you could help me out there is suppose to be a reset button on the Ac to reset the oil life but I do not have one my car don't come with one the 2002 and up do but not my 2005. If you could help me with this problem I would greatly appreciate it. Also when I get going to about 45 to 50 speed the service light kick back on a drops my meter down and the car shakes again.

Scotty Kilmer Awesome stuff I have a 04 Lexus is300; I replaced the canister assembly as I had the p0442 code and the gas cap Both items are Lexus genuine parts Now - I have no check engine light but there is gas odour from the gas cap area after I fill the tank: Could this be the rusty filler tube or the rubber joint between the filler tube and gas tank? Anything would help Thank you

A story and suggestion. I recently changed spark plugs and some other preventative maintenance in my 2014 Traverse. My wife came home from work one day saying she could smell gas in the car. I freaked out for a minute, afraid I messed up a fuel line somehow (even though I hadn't messed with the fuel system). I soon realized it had to be due to something I did. I started the car (ran fine) and smelled the tail pipe. No gas smell. It was only in the cabin and under the hood. I sniffed around under the hood, real close to the engine. I could smell gas only over one ignition coil, no where else. Turned out, I hadn't tightened down that one spark plug enough. It came loose way too easy. I compared that spark plug well with the one next to it. It had some residue in it. After snugging down that plug, smell went away. So, if you've recently changed plugs, a gas smell could be a loose plug.

I tried the final test, "Smelling the exhaust". Well it smelled so good, I passed out. Fortunate for me a neighbor was passing by and carried me to fresh air. The doctors say there isn't any permanent brain damage, but I don't remember seeing elephants floating on balloons before following your advice. I'm just kidding, love your video's.

when cold, they will tend to run rich when starting up, so you smell it coming out the exhaust when you back up. Even my toyotas do that in the winter

Toyota Corolla 2012: As soon as i topup gas tank i smell the gas inside cabin for few seconds. After driving for about a minute it goes away. This only happens when i fill up more then half upuntil half there is none!!!

first check for leaking valve cover gaskets, they often leak on the exhaust and you smell it inside with the heater on

Scotty, I had a gas tank replaced on my 1969 Ford Fairlane which caused gas vapor smells in the trunk and inside the car. I took it back to the shop and they admitted no problem. But I should have insisted on another gas tank to be installed instead of taking their word 41 years ago. They obviously installed a defective gas tank.

Before I get ripped off, my car smells of gas in the cab when you open the door before it’s even been running. Checked codes at two different auto parts stores, no codes, none of the guys smelled gas under the hood or in the trunk, and no one had just put gas in recently. However, I’ve been told my catalytic converter is going bad. (Intermittently my check engine light is on/off and when on reads the catalytic converter) Engine just replaced a couple months ago on this 2002 Solara SE 4 cylinder. Can’t wait to move back to Knoxville with family and have some of that moonshine!😄 Thanks Scotty!

old age and cold often means an evap system vent problem, so you smell fuel vapor but will never see actual gasoline leaking anywhere

we mechanics do not use the term "relay sensor", but relays are electronic and generally are separate parts that plug and unplug from their connectors often near the main fuse boxes.

THANK YOU. 2002 Civic. could smell the gas a mile away and the car was throwing an evap code. Had no idea where to start. ended up washing out the gas cap, lubing up the gasket and cleaning the seat where the gas cap sits. no problem after that!

yes, if the cam locks up inside the engine, the belt will then rip, and can damage all kinds of stuff inside the engine. Just depends on the car, it's shape, and whether it's worth putting another engine in. That, you have to decide

Scotty Ive been watching your videos for a number of years now and I recently got my first car a couple months ago, a 1993 Toyota Camry with 80k Miles. Ive been having a number of different problems arise lately such as my RPMs began dropping and idling incredibly low, it barely accelerates off the line, I smell gasoline in the car, the car shakes pretty badly during idle and higher speeds and now it just wont start. It could be my fuel pump or maybe an alternator but Im 20 years old, Im trying to figure everything out pretty much on my own and Im broke. I wish I had a neighbor such as yourself to atleast be able to help me fix it myself not necessarily do it for me. I want to learn, it interests me its just overwhelming considering I deliver food currently. I aopreciate your videos and your enthusiasm and the world needs more people like you who enjoy helping people

Often valve gaskets leak a little bit it gets on the exhaust and then smells. Check that first. My car had a gas leak for awhile it is quite a risk because gas is very flammable. Turns out it was a crack in the gas line connected to the fuel pump. Had to have the gas line and the fuel pump replaced. Almost $500

Also everytime I hit the gas, fuel was spraying out on the ground out of the faulty gas line, but only when I hit the gas so there was never a leak on the ground when the car was sitting. It reaked of gas when I got out of the car though

figure where the smell is coming from. If ONLY from the exhaust at the tail pipe, it's running too rich, often leaking fuel injectors do that. If it's under the hood, then something's leaking there. Like fuel injector lines or seals.

often a bad EVAP system, it vents only gas vapor so you never see leaks. check the charcoal cannister first for smell around it

many things can do that, but generally either ignition coil problems or fuel injector problems on that model. Have the coils tested and pray it's just bad ignition coils.

Hey Scotty, I like you man. Keep this stuff up. I ran into an issue that myself as a mechanic couldn't pinpoint but you led me to it. I have a GM 3800 V6 01 Bonneville that had o-rings bad in the 90 degree fuel feed line. Shop wanted to charge me $300 but I grabbed the 8MM o-ring for it and did it myself for $1.08.

If you smell gas in Honda Fit, check the spark plugs. Either they come loose or were not properly "fitted" in the factory. I found some blog posts reporting this problem then checked my car and indeed, in my 2009 Fit with 150K km, the #3 spark plug needed about 2 full turns to sit tight. I was getting occasional misfire code on cylinder #3, which now makes sense.

it's actually inside the intake manifold, nutty design on that one. you have to remove the manifold to access it

The smell isnt coming from my engine, my tailpipe, or the fuel cap. The smell concentrates in the back seat and trunk area on the side with the fuel cap and I have seen a half drop in tank life. Its a 1994 ford escort its old but it only has 100 thousand miles or so it used to get 240 or more to the 10 gallon tank now im getting 120 to 150.

Also....not only does the gas cap keep the fumes in, it keeps the fuel system pressurized. That's why you shouldn't leave your vehicle running while pumping gas because on alot of cars 2000 and newer, the vehicle will almost shut off once the gas cap is taken off.

a little bit won't hurt. as long as it's less than half a quart. Fuel filter should be on the frame under the truck on the drivers side, crawl under there.

many things can do that, do my video "how to tell if your head gasket is blown" and if it is, big money rebuilding the engine. If not, try cleaning the fuel injectors.

jack it up, run it and look. Last time I fixed on that old all the hoses near the fuel pump back there were rotten and seeping, I had to change em all

wheel cylinders have nothing to do with gas smells, but you can check em if you're worried. Freon is an odorless gas, you would not smell it leaking. Have the fuel lines and injectors under the hood checked for leaks.

the celica was used for the charcoal cannister, as the porsche has it hidden on top of the gas tank and I'm not taking that off for one shot.

On my 1992 Fiat Tipo there was smell inside of a car, because rubber seal that was in place where wires to power fuel pump enter the gas tank, was missing. Some automotive sealant on that 3mm hole fixed the problem. Once was also smelly, but outside, in engine area, caused by tiny leak on fuel return line.

The Honda 1.5l turbo smells really nice like gasoline cologne when you start it up specially in cold weather, Honda believes in the engine so much it has a 6 year unlimited miles warranty on it.
