I have an '01. Original engine and trans. About 150K miles, not sure because the digital odometer went out years ago, lol. The engine is wearing out, oil pressure light comes on at idle when at temp, but it's been doing that for several years now, and otherwise still gets down the road ok. Those GM 2.2l engines weren't really meant to last this long. I drive it every day, but mostly just short little stop & go trips. Only put about 3.5k miles a year on it, but still change the oil every 6 months. I remember when it was new you'd see Sunfires and Cavs everywhere on the road. Npw I'm all alone out there!

I had a 1998 Chevy Cavalier with the 2.2l OHV engine and that thing never really had any engine problems but I did have to replace the starter at least two times and the master cylinder once, pads and rotors. Other than that it ran alright mind you it wasn't perfect of course but I didn't care. Drove that thing for six years before I finally got tired of it and wanted to upgrade so I sold it for 300 bucks and the odometer had 400,000 kms on it.

My aunt who’s less fortunate was given a 1986 two door mazda 326 hatchback 5 speed manual and she drove that from upstate New York to CT a 3-4 hr drive and same back every thanksgiving and Christmas for 8 years! with my 2 cousins and all 3 of them were no less 200pounds each! It started with 150k and had 440k miles when the clutch went out and when she went to get it fixed the frame was crunching on lift so they told her it was unsafe and she scrapped it for $300.

I own a 2021 Mazda 3, bought new. Don't be fooled. The interior is a rattlebox. Rattles and buzzes from the dashboard, glovebox, infotainment screen, seatbelt fastener mechanisms, windows, and door panels. The instrument panel cover is also made of cheap plastic, which scratches so easily you can't clean it with anything but a can of compressed air to clean off the dust. Touch it, and it will get scratched. The exterior paint is very thin too, and scratches very easily. I haven't had any engine or transmission problems over the past 28,000 miles, though.

I used to deliver auto parts, and Mazda usually had the least amount of parts going to the dealer. Maybe cause less people own them or something but I figured maybe they were somewhat reliable too. I would definitely consider buying one.
@bobullman
@bobullman 7 ай бұрын
Two different shops I consulted about buying a used said they were good cars BUT, very difficult to get parts when needed. And if the parts are available, they will have to be from a dealer, this being the most expensive.
@wadesouza6402
@wadesouza6402 7 ай бұрын
@@bobullman Yeah, that used to be true because Mazda had lower market penetration aka sales and so distributors carried lower parts inventory. NOW, it has changed significantly as Mazda sales, especially of the CX5 have soared. However, they are more reliable than CRVs or Rav4s so again distributors carry lower inventory levels because they are needed less frequently. But, they are always available and these days the parts turnaround outside of the pandemic era is good. Also, OEM parts are available more than aftermarket but that too is changing. However, since they break down less frequently than other cars it evens out. Also, the largest piece of most repairs these days is labor vs parts for the average repairs. BTW, this is based on both experience with LOTS of cars and about 10 years in the business. 7 Mazdas vs 3 Hondas and 3 Toyotas owned, I have to say that the Mazdas have been more fun to drive and slightly to lots more reliable.

I've had Mazdas since 1985. Been very satisfied with them. Had a 1988 626 turbo with manual transmission. Several years later I gave it to my son. Still running well. Eventually the body rusted severely (we live on a dirt road and the fine dust gets everywhere and turns into a water-absorbing muck everywhere). He found another 1988 body with no engine, so he put the turbo into that car. Ran it for some time until he had an accident which ruined the body. The turbo engine, still running well, had 204k on it. That engine was maintained well, with oil changes at about 2800-3000 miles per change. That was a sweet turbo.

I purchased a used Mazda 3 and would say mechanically it is worth it. The unfortunate part is the dashboard is melting. It feels like glue. Mazda had a recall on the dashboards and the previous owner did not take advantage to have it replaced during the time frame required in the recall.. So now, it would cost over $1k to have it replaced. I purchased a mat that goes over it so we don't have the tacky surface exposed. But, it still produces a vapor that sticks to the windshield and it takes solvents to clean the inside of the front windshield and remove the fogginess. If it wasn't for this, I would say it is a great car.

Great video. I was a mechanic for 15 years and never thought I'd ever hear anyone recommend a Pontiac. Every single one that i worked on was a POS. My God. It's no secret that GM made junky cars but it seems that they saved their worse for Pontiac. Anyway, this is cool info.

I had purchased 2 New Mazda Protege in my younger days. I loved those cars. I bought a standard for me and an automatic for my wife. The Mazda 3 was it's replacement but the Protege was an awesome looking car, and we never had any problems with them back then. Mind you, I think we had only kept them for 5 years.

My 2010 Mazda 6 was made in Dearborn at the ford factory. The 2.5 liter was co engineered and used by ford and Mazda and mercury and Lincoln for years. It’s the best car I’ve ever owned and if the motor blows up I can get another for 1k bucks and run it another 150k. After 15 years I may never get rid of this car . It runs perfectly and I think it’ll be a nice project to keep it going for my son’s first FREE car . Cause I damn sure never got one I didn’t pay for.

The Vibes are great, but beware of part-finding difficulty. I bought a used 2010 Vibe several years ago and it has been great until recently. Recent repairs have been difficult to get parts for, but I've always managed-until now. Now the PCM is out and I can't get one. I'm without a car and haven't yet found an exact part match through any sites, salvage yards, etc.

It was for two clutches because the first one was fitted wrongly. 432.000 km with an humble Peugeot 307. I think good driving is the point.

@BearfootBob That wouldn't do a thing for the engine. That car was OK for around town. On the highway at a mile high altitude, (Rio Rancho, NM), it was way underpowered. It spent most of its short life in second gear. I took it to Wheeler Peak once, and people were honking at me with the pedal on the floor in second gear. The same problem occurred when driving up to Los Alamos.
