Scotty Kilmer I had a 2006 Highlander and only got 176000 miles. I had to get rid of it because the tranny started going out . I had soooo many problems like door regulators, timing belt, air conditioning control, brake calipers, etc. I’m on the fence about buying another.

My 2008 Highlander has 335K miles and the engine runs like new. The only "major" repairs so far has been the replacing the water pump twice and the control arms. I bought it for $30K new and paid it off in 2013. I figure it will last another 10-15 years.

Bought a used 2015 LE front wheel drive & turned it into a full-time motor lodge. (Stealth camper) Removed both back seats & found gobs of space to live in. ( If you're tall, this is the rig to buy.) I did a "no build" in it to save space & keep the thing as light as possible. Several major cross-country road trips later, it still runs like a champ. ( $200 sensor went bad right after I bought it, but knock on wood, that's been it.) I've also done some serious off-roading in this front wheel drive Highlander, & it's done great. Imo, why waste big $ on a 4x4 when a high clearance front wheel drive gets it done!

The Pilot is a full size SUV and the Highlander is a midsize one, it should ride better. Both suv's you have are excellent choices.

Same with my odyssey. I find them way more luxurious looking inside and it drives so smooth and has lots of power. My wife loves it and it's 14 years old

Abdullah S. Ahmad I have a Highlander and it’s much better than the troublesome Honda. Also I pull a 22 ft pontoon with my Highlander something a Honda couldn’t do.

I enjoy watching and getting all of the information you share with the viewer. I have been on the fence about buying a "New to me" used car. I'm leaning towards the Highlander. I've been gathering as much info as a can about them. One thing I do know is that not all of the models have a timing chain. The four cylinder from 2001 thru 2007 and 2009 thru 2014 do indeed have a timing chain. The 2001 thru 2007 V6 has a timing Belt. The 2008 thru 2014 V6 has a timing chain. This info is only applies to Gasoline powered cars.

The Highlander is one of my favorite SUV's. Super roomy for my whole family. Smooth and just blast to ride on road trips, especially on the way to Mt. Rainer during the winter!

I have a 2007 hubrid with 236000 miles . Ni issues whatsoever so far and quite fast: 0 to 60 under 7 seconds. Also a really nice car to drive. Never changed the battery pack either. ( I bought it at 160000 miles). It is good gor 3500 lbs of towing.

Had a 07 Highlander with 370k and a ignition coil died. Replaced it and the timing belt broke. I thought it was done for but replaced the belt and it is still going STRONG the boroscope of the engine still showed factory bore hones on the cylinders!!! Now mind you I always use synthetic but this blew my mind. So yes I'll probably have a Highlander till I die ;)

Tia Marie yes, on average both genders take care of their cars very similarly, but it’s the extreme ends that matters. Theres those small amount of men which take really good care of the car and small amount women who doesn’t care at all. It’s the extremes that makes the difference between genders. Thats why buying a used car from a women is a lot bigger gamble than buying it from men.

Own a 2011 Highlander with the Aisin 5-speed automatic transmission. Toyota has been touting the transmission fluid is lifetime. DONT GO BY THIS. Change it every 60,000 miles. If you really baby the car, 120,000 miles is acceptable. Only use Toyota WS ATF (or Aisin ATF-0WS) and do a 3x3 drain, do not get it flushed at a shop with a big machine. Note: check your year and trim for actual fluid type since they vary. Some older models use Toyota Type-IV. I believe 2008 and up uses Toyota WS.
