Bought a used 2015 LE front wheel drive & turned it into a full-time motor lodge. (Stealth camper) Removed both back seats & found gobs of space to live in. ( If you're tall, this is the rig to buy.) I did a "no build" in it to save space & keep the thing as light as possible. Several major cross-country road trips later, it still runs like a champ. ( $200 sensor went bad right after I bought it, but knock on wood, that's been it.) I've also done some serious off-roading in this front wheel drive Highlander, & it's done great. Imo, why waste big $ on a 4x4 when a high clearance front wheel drive gets it done!

Own a 2011 Highlander with the Aisin 5-speed automatic transmission. Toyota has been touting the transmission fluid is lifetime. DONT GO BY THIS. Change it every 60,000 miles. If you really baby the car, 120,000 miles is acceptable. Only use Toyota WS ATF (or Aisin ATF-0WS) and do a 3x3 drain, do not get it flushed at a shop with a big machine. Note: check your year and trim for actual fluid type since they vary. Some older models use Toyota Type-IV. I believe 2008 and up uses Toyota WS.
