A good way to prevent this problem is to turn off a/c a couple of minutes before you turn off the car and put the heater to warmest setting. That will dry out the vent box and ducts. It will also prevent your windows from fogging up when you turn on the heater in the morning.

you can spray from the inside duct in passenger footwell(switch to recirc), as well. also, after you spray, turn off HVAC completely for 15-20min, that allows the lysol sit and percolate in system, fuming out and accumulating in system, killing the bugs. with this technique you only need to spray a smaller amount, say 15sec, after that turn back on and fully vent it out as needed. Thanks Scotty, u ROCK!!!

Good tip. A local Chevy dealership actually told me to do this once when I asked them about the smell coming from the vents in my truck. One add on tip to this, if you car has a cabin air filter make sure you replace the filter, but also, make sure the cabin air filter is removed when you spray the Lysol through there, other wise it will get saturated with Lysol which isn't good for the filter, and it also can make the Lysol not be as effective at killing the odors in the rest of the system.
@robde-e-e5 жыл бұрын
Some cars don't have a cover over the cabin-air-filter-housing (like Toyota Aygo). If you then remove the cabinfilter, that means there is a big 'leaking hole' which prevents the air&cleaner to reach the evaporator. So what to do then?

@@cooldaddyslick6869 where exactly did you spray in? Where is the fan? I just paid the Toyota dealership $150 for a professional A/C cleaning and the smell came back in just three days. It was a super-strong perfume coming from the vents then it dissipated in three days to a moldy smell. What a waste of $150. Which spray did you try?
@cooldaddyslick68693 жыл бұрын
@@Unfinished_sentenc I have a G37 and my fan is right underneath the filter behind the glovebox. But all outside air has to pass through the filter so all you gotta do is just find out where yours is and spray through there. Sprayed through the outside vent too. I used damn near the whole can of Lysol early morning breeze scent. Turned off the ac afterwards and sprayed through the interior vents and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then just run the fan on high with the ac off to help get the Lysol smell out. You can use any disinfectant spray that says it neutralizes odors. Drive with the window down and run the fan with the ac off until the Lysol smell is gone cause it is strong. But my car smells like nothing now, a good thing. Might as well install a new filter that deals with odor and bacteria while you're in there. Where I live it's not really hot anymore so I waited till now so I won't have to deal with the smell till next year. But all you gotta do is use those little fogger cans as maintenance until the next deep cleaning with the Lysol.

Couple noob questions, 1. If the smell is worse when you're using regular air and not AC - is it possibly the same issue? 2. Would it make more sense to lift the hood and spray directly into the ventilation intake? 3. Should I remove the air filter from the cabin to ensure the Lysol spray isn't being filtered? 3a. If I don't remove the filter, will Lysol stay inside the filter such that I'd be inhaling Lysol fumes long after a day?

From personal trial and error, having the filter doesn't seem to stop this from working, but it won't be as good of a result if you have it. Having your filter on while doing this won't damage the filter, and the Lysol will only last a little bit before it gets removed. Hence why you want to keep your windows open

This may work for a temporary (e.g. 20 minute) relief. But it does not last. Tried his method two separate times and unfortunately it did not get rid of the smell in the long run

maybe an air filter problem- or something underneath the seats (likely issue)
@OptimusIsHere2 жыл бұрын
@@FrostyDubbz no it was the ac ducts. Did a more thorough cleaning of the inner lines using the proper tools/chemicals, and smell is now gone 🤙

open the hood, check for sucking noise there. Perhaps blow some smoke and see where it gets sucked in

Lyzol is called Dettol for the rest of the world.

Jello Shot Thanks! I've been wondering how to get Lysol outside the States. I've just searched & the Dettol "Neutra Air" & Lysol "Neutra Air" have almost identical packaging. "Oust 3 in 1" is another great spray product that actually kills airborne bacteria as well as surface.
@mida82616 жыл бұрын
Doesn't have to be Lysol. It can be any sanitizing spray.

Another great video Scotty! Entertaining and informative as always. Question: Would changing the cabin filter help with cigarette smoke smell? I mean the interior is one thing but it’s very noticeable when you turn the fan on. Take care.
@danielvitolo25952 жыл бұрын
100%! Filter holds all that smell in it. So doing this plus changing filter would make huge difference
