Any idea why your mpg is so low? I have a 2014 Fusion hybrid with 175k, my dash reads 42-43mpg and I’ve reset it a number of time, both my wife and myself driving. I’ve checked those numbers at the pump with the actual odometer and they are pretty accurate.

I ordered a 2016 Fusion Energi Titanium - the plug in hybrid - and have 180,000 miles on it. Have replaced brakes once. Been through several sets of tires. That's the end of the service list. Including plug-in range, have 60MPG over the life of the car. With the CVT transmission and the gas engine as well as the electric motors, I think it's the best drivetrain have ever had in a car. It really moves when you want it to. Was shocked when they stopped making them.

The reason Ford, GM & Chrysler don't want to made sedans and other small cars is that they make less profit from them than SUVs. I agree with Scotty that it is a mistake because not everyone needs or wants an SUV such as a single person or a couple without children.

I was a Ford Master Tech for a very long time, but I worked for Toyota when the Hybrid first came out. They sent me to tons of training on them. I then spent years learning everything I could about Hybrid systems. I then bought a 2014 Fusion Hybrid and drover it EVERYWHERE!!! I put over 100K on it and because of my understanding of the system and exactly how it worked, I was able to get 60+ MPG, with zero modifications! Now, many people didn't like my driving if I was in traffic, but with that mileage I didn't care! I was a rude Masshole anyway! HAHAHA!!! I am now picking up a 2014 Fusion Energi Titanium Plug in and I can't wait to see what I can get on that one!!!

This is awesome to hear. This is my car that was featured in this video. Now that I have gotten used to it, my routine city trips are typically between 55-60mpg. I was also a rude Masshole myself until the hybrid "tamed" my bad driving habits. This car has literally made me a better driver. I did consider buying a plug-in but was turned off for two main reasons. First was the battery size. It literally takes up the entire trunk. That alone was a deal breaker for me. The second reason is an issue with all plug-ins that no one really talks about. Many people buy them with the intention of only driving on EV and only using the gas when they go on a long trip. The problem is gas goes bad...and it goes bad quicker than people realize. Many Jeep owners have recently learned this the hard way. Bad gas can ruin the engine. So even though most plug-ins can bring people to and from work only on EV, you still HAVE to utilize the gas often. So you pay for electricity and gas, with no trunk, and a more expensive battery.

I bought a 2016 Ford Fusion 2.5L brand new. Fully paid off now and only has 86k miles. I've only ever needed to take it in for a recall once (think it was the emergency brakes). I do all my own maintenance. Love this thing very reliable.
@lorenschwiderski
@lorenschwiderski 4 ай бұрын
Whoa, it had more recalls than that. Have them look for all of them. I have the same car. These are pretty tough little cars. I do believe they are Mazda 2.5LT engines, and the car is the German Mondeo. Such a nice quiet car, and well planted on curves. I live now in an area with many big trucks and SUVs, thus might be looking for an SUV soon. If I can live with the elevated driving position -- never drove a bus 🤪 There is a recall on the brake lines (front) and one for steering wheel (might not be attached properly due to bolts used). Parking brake could be another. Ford has this thing about that for some odd reason. I had no problem, but some people did.

I don't know way everyone gets so worried about their cars being built in Mexico. I work in the auto industry and after getting to know some of my coworkers I'd rather have Mexicans building my car! I've worked with a lot of Mexicans in the past and they are actually really hard workers and I trust them more than Americans auto workers.
@ivermec-tin666
@ivermec-tin666 Жыл бұрын
Why? Because of the horrible experience with VW's assembled in Mexico. It has nothing to do with how hard Mexican's work, or how likeable they are. I do not see attention to detail and craftsmanship as being an essential aspect of Mexican peasant culture, and that is who works in the auto plants in Mexico. The combination of German engineering and Mexican manufacture somehow results in the worst of both cultures being combined in the finished product. I would have to think long and hard about buying any highly engineered mass market industrial product that was manufactured in Mexico based on my VW experiences.

My Ford dealers in Orange County have taken good care of me and this car. What kind of advice would you give me for the 65,000 mile service on the car? I use it as a great commute car. When I was provided a Fusion in North Carolina, I began to request it and eventually decided I want one for myself. In 2013 I bought a 2014 Titanium version and it's been my baby ever since. Few issues aside from the back up cameras intermittent failure to function and, the starring wheel controls (replaced 2 times) consistence failure. I still love her and, yes I meant her. Wify don't care too much for that but, hey she has her nail guy, I have my car. 260K miles and she still puts out like she was 2022. :-) I'm not crazy, just crazy about her. It's not as quick off the line as my mothers full gas version, but the gas mileage really wins out at the end of the day. My tank is now averaging 6 weeks between fill ups. Don't buy those LED headlight upgrades. The headlight reflector is designed for the light pattern from the original incandescent, not the one from the LED. Using an LED upgrade in one of those can result in light shining in other drivers' eyes. In fact, it's actually illegal to use those for that very reason. On some cars (looks like the Fusion Hybrid included), you can get aftermarket LED headlight assemblies that are fine and legal - just make sure you get one that's DOT approved.

You could’ve told the owner just put a little transmission fluid in the engine transmission fluid will not hurt your engine, but it will clean a lot of oil passages up because there are cleansers in transmission fluid. They really are nice cars. The new 2023 Focus looks really nice but it's only in Europe. I wish they'd have made the Focus in hybrid (hatchback) because that thing could probably get 60MPG

It wasn't Ford it was the N.A. consumers with their appetite for cuv, SUVs and trucks.

@Gary S Agree. They just went based on the market and pulled what wasn't appealing off their production line. I had SUVs and they're nice and all, but I enjoy my hatchback much more and would like to stick to sedans or hatchback cars.

My girl has one of them and she couldn't be more happy. A note to everyone: to warm up engine on a Ford Fusion Hybrid, press button and give the pedal two pumps. Engine will turn on a warm up to operating mode. As soon as it turns off, you are ready to go. Thanks Again Scott for your skilled insight and knowledge of the motor world.

Scotty the Original Hybrid Fusions got 41 mpg in the city. Last models grew in size and got high 30s

What are you talking about? My last 4 city driving rides I averaged between 50-55mpg. I even got 84mpg staying on EV mode as much as possible. There is no "average" mpg for hybrids. If you drive hard, like with any vehicle, you will get worse gas mileage.

I have a 2019 that I bought with 40k miles. I get 42-44 mpg (I commute 100+ miles through the Mojave desert 4x per week). It'll only go a few miles purely on battery, but I can nurse it up to about 55 on flat ground before the gas motor starts. Around 33% of the odometer miles are on battery, so I change the oil every 5k. I've changed the trans fluid twice (~50 and 100k). One of the things I really like is the engine - port injection and a timing CHAIN.

Hybrids to me potentially have allot of things that could go wrong. Electronics, electric motor gas motor interface, drive train interface. I'm not interested in them either. I'd much rather have a small V6. Ford did have a 3 litre v6 that was a good engine in the Taurus years back.

They could go wrong, but in these Fusions they rarely do.

I honestly think the Fusion Hybrid's were more reliable than the standard Fusion....probably because of the Toyota drive train. I remember buying my 2010 Fusion Hybrid back in 2011 and everyone telling me the "battery would die in 5 years." 12 years and zero issues later, it's been nearly flawless.

Problem is its getting harder to even find a V6. They are all switching to trash tiny turbo engines. What is the point of a turbo in a 1.5L 3 cylinder engine? lol I had that 3.0L DOHC V6 Taurus you mentioned. Bulletproof engine.

Your small v6 has just as many things that can go wrong ... just say you don't like hybrids because you're simple minded.
