Just about all companies, prior to a layoff, announcement will deny computer and other access to those being laid off. This is especially true in the aerospace industry. Too much risk of theft, vandalism and sabotage by disgruntled workers.

If a company requires you to give a 2 week notice, then it should work the other way around. A billion dollar corporation can easily afford to pay a worker 2 more weeks. I think it should a 5 day agreement both ways. 5 days is plenty of time for a worker to find a new job or start looking for one, and 5 days is plenty of time for a company to find a new worker. The system is vastly UNFAIR to workers who are making far less than corporations.

Most companies don't have advanced warning from the government mandates that require them to build vehicles that there is no technoloy yet developed that will make them affordable to the masses. As a result you have a company that doesn't sell the product and ends up closing the door and everyone loses their job or you have to make some adjustments.

I received my confirmation of NO to EV's last Jan 2024 when visiting my in-laws in NorCA. My brother in law was with us but his wife who drives a Telsa drove down to SoCal to see her parents. At 10pm she called and was in total panic because her Tesla was going to die and there were no fully operating charging stations from San Simeon south to Thousand Oaks. There were stations but they were all slow charging. She forced her husband to stay on the phone with her until 2am as she would go from one station to another to get 10 miles driving distance for 45 minutes of charging. It was a complete joke and she was panicking. It solidified my continued support of gas powered machines.

I worked for a huge oil company back when oil fell to $40/barrel. They laid off thousands and some were malicious, one guy shedded the mill certs on $60 million of new pipeline in the yard. We ended up using the pipe as culverts…consumers paid the price. So that’s why they shut you out immediately.

I mention this in the main comments section but its a traditional hiring/firing practice used in the past and made famous by GM’s former CEO.: Look up ‘Vitality Curve’: The vitality [curve] model… [is] a "20-70-10" system. The "top 20" percent of the workforce is most productive, and 70% (the "vital 70") work adequately. The other 10% ("bottom 10") are nonproducers and should be fired.” I don't know if i’d say normal, but many companies, such as GM, and General Electric, not to mention government agencies use this method to lean their workforce at regular intervals. I don’t “know” why Elon did it, but based on the evidence it seems like a logical reaction to the market. Doing nothing through a Lazze faire approach would ruin the company potentially. There just seems to be a significant amount of negative spin on any press regarding the American Car Company known as Tesla Motors no matter what they do.

I didnt buy a tesla, i bought a plug in hybrid instead. But i'm not stupid enough to think Tesla is going to fail and neither are their cars. It's other companies that don't have the efficiency and brand recognition that will go the way of the dodo bird. IMO if you're going to see an electric on the road in the future, it's probably going to be a Tesla.

From within the US it seems so. however, in europe tesla cars are one of the worst cars in terms of reliability, recalls and their price is not competitive. Peugeots, chinese ev, italian and korean hybrids are very competitive. However, the whole EV push may be short lived as policies are changing fast due to the slow development of the energy grid, the cost of EVs and the loss of real income for middle class in the world. EV by themselves wont act as the link between current world and a low emissions, low-carbon society.
