Better to change the fluid than to replace the lines. Fluid sucks up the water causing the rust. Then again if you replace a brake line you need the replace the fluid anyway. Worst case scenario: You do brakes, lines, fluid and then store the car. 5-10yrs later when you want to drive it again you will most likely need to replace lines/fluid/seals again.

Good advice as usual Scotty. and yes, I did "Ring that Bell... Just DIY serviced the HandBrake ( Hand UK ~~ Emergency Brake USA ) on my 2005 MG ZT Petrol Turbo. It has Disc Brakes on the rear and inside their hubs, are a small brake shoe assembly for the the Handbrake operation. Doesn't hold the car like it used too. So removed Discs/Rotors and Calipers on rear. I used some 5% Dilute Dishwashing Up Liquid in a Mist Sprayer the type gardeners use to spray their plants. Then liberally sprayed the assembly after removing Brake Discs. Worked that into all the nooks and crannies with a Nylon Bristle Brush. Then rinsed the lot of it off with some recently boiled water. That warms the components and allows them to dry quickly with the heat. Then adjust trial and error with disc on then off until ideal Handbrake setting is achieved. I can now park my car on the steepest slopes confident it will not roll away. This frequently happens with some cars even modern new ones with the fancy brake assist gizmos... several reports in the press about runaway cars. Not all advanced technology is 100% beneficial. I'm one of those drivers who does get 100,000 miles out of the Pads .. not to be confused with driving slowly as you mention. Anticipation is what its all about. Many drivers are heavy on their brakes. No need. Plus wait at long hold ups or red lights with foot firmly planted on brake pedal stressing the hydraulic seals in the system. That' accelerates wear and why their cars need expensive brake renewals soon and more frequently. Keep that good advice coming Scotty. You have millions of Bell Ringers ...👍👍

@ThePariss333 boohoo. As long as you're in control of your vehicle you're not endangering anyone. Step on the gas and live a little ya prune
@Josh-cw8by5 жыл бұрын
@@goldenultra wether it's better for your engine or not is debatable. I prefer full throttle a couple minutes after driving as you avoid heat soakin your intake and have more power.
@goldenultra5 жыл бұрын
@@Josh-cw8by More power because it is taking cold air, that makes sense. On my Avensis when you start cold it revs high toyota built it that way. So maybe there is more to it....

First time I have ever seen the suggestion to flush out old brake fluid, it’s about time. Yeehaw.
@louf71785 жыл бұрын
I think it's underrated. I once flushed mine, and they were significantly better.

My dealer “suggests” brake fluid flush every oil change lol. I’ve paid to have it done but not sure they actually do it.

Another practical video! Scotty you''ve got great advice and a fine sense of humor! I've flushed my cars brake systems every two years and kept original brakes (except pads and rotors) for 265K miles on my '86 Mitsubishi Mirage Turbo.

Just dump that break clean on your driveway. It won't contaminate the ground water or anything.

My wife's 2007 Honda Fit had 4 wheel disc brakes. Her 2018 Fit has drums on the back. But thanks to another video of yours, you set my mind at ease by saying that it's the front brakes that do the majority of the work. This summer I will blow out the drums. Thanks for the info.
